  1. Rm.w... I guess the best way to start this off is I guess to just jump right in. As you all can see I've received a lot of really excellent information from everyone on this thread and a recurring theme that I'm getting to first ask myself why do I want solar? I just purchased a new TT which has a solar port to charge the battery. That's what the fellow who did my PDI said. So I asked the parts department about a portable solar panel and I think he quoted me a price of something like $3 or $400 bucks. Not knowing if that's a good price. He also said that the Chinese make excellent panels. So to get me started with solar what does everyone recommend I purchase to at least get the one little 12v battery charged up? Secondly how many watts or amps will I need to do what I want to do? I have no idea. The solar port on the TT says 10 amps soooo I guess I need 10 amps right? Or maybe not. Anyway....if I can get some product info on what's needed and if of good quality I would greatly appreciate it. Carlos had mentioned a Li-ion battery which I like the fact that you can really discharge down and charge back up. For now the 12v battery gonna have to do. Ben
  2. Carlos where would I start to look to acquire such a battery? That's a lot of money and do they sometime go on sale?
  3. Well I tried the Hensley hitch today..... took some time to back it in. Hensley at first sent the 6" drop stinger. It was way too low. So they sent the 2 in drop stinger. The TT pulled level and what a difference. No charge for sending a stinger the first time. I just have to return the 6 inch stinger and they pay for it. Cheers Ben...chief916
  4. Thank you Randy....good info on conservation. I am gonna have to figure out where to stow more batteries. It's a small TT Grand Design Imagine. So limited on where to put or start the setup.
  5. Thanks for your inputs sir. Now that I have conversion data this should be fun. Thank you
  6. This is pretty straight forward stuff.... more confident feeling now. I got an idea how I may want to do this.... start small and work up to what I need Thank you, good video.
  7. Wowzer....I had no idea of what this would entail. But I do know that I got my work cut out for educating myself. Thank you to all of you for sharing your views and your advice. Looks like I've got a lot of reading to do here but you guys are pointing me in the right direction. Thank you for the links provided. I will check back in here when I've got more knowledge and info. v/r Ben.... chief 916
  8. Had this posted on the travel trailer page but no one cared to offer any insight so I'll post it here. Can anybody out there tell me about buying solar panels for my trailer please??? I have not a clue on anything dealing with this subject. What's a good product and what's not so good. Portable or fixed. Amperage and what's. Battery types etc. thank you Ben
  9. I have a toy hauler we bought used 4 yrs ago and it's falling apart faster than I can fix it. That being said we started looking at newer THs. We found that grand design appears to be a winner for us but then we stated looking at TTs......gee there are so many. Again we found a a TT made by grand design. We were impressed with the quality and construction. Another thing that impressed us was that there was no hard pressure to buy anything and the dealership has been around for a long time and they're the only dealership in North Carolina that offers a life time warranty along with the 3 year limited that comes with the grand design...... needless to say ...we pick up our new grand design on this coming Thursday. Oh yeah...we decided to keep our toy hauler and fix it up and continue to do long trips across the states using our Volvo road tractor. The ole Ford f350 will be assigned to pulling the new TT to local city and state parks. Best of luck with finding the right RV for yourselves. Cheers Ben...chief916
  10. Took your advice and had the wheels flipped. Thank you for the input.
  11. Noteven.... LMAO about your narrative with using the hensley... way to funny. I've looked at the pp as well. Isn't that nothing more than another newer version of the Hensley but just as pricy? Thank you for your inputs... great narrative. Ben...chief916
  12. Lance....can you tell me why your dad stopped using the hensley? If anything....becase of his investment I would have continued using it all the more. Obtw does your dad plan to sell it or keep as a backup or what? If so, PM me. Either way, we get the coach this coming Thursday up in Raleigh and I plan to bring it home using a regular tri-ball hitch by B&H which is rated 1k tongue/10k gross. No anti-sway. I'll just take it slowly. V/R Ben....chief916
  13. Thank you to everyone who responded. Looks like it's gonna be the Hensley for this new coach. I appreciate and value each of your imputs. V/R Ben. Chief916
  14. Length 31 Weight 7700# TV Ford f350 long wheelbase powerstroke. The big rig will be used for pulling the toy hauler and I put a TS3. So I'm thinking how good a hitch this one is but then I get sticker shock when I see that the arrow cost almost what I paid for the TS3. I've pretty much told myself to suck it up buttercup. Thank you for your feedback.
  15. Looking for recommendations for a good anti sway hitch to tow my TT.
  16. Thank you to all for your inputs. I will let my alignment guy know. V/R Ben
  17. Thank you gentlemen...I value both of your inputs. I pick the unit up this coming Thursday.... I'm going to try it with the portable EMS that I use on my TH. V/R Ben
  18. Yes sir I get that but I've heard that you have to use one of the smaller generators to work with the new trailers but I've got this big beautiful 5000 watt generator and I want to make sure that if I use this on a new trailer it won't screw up anything.
  19. Getting ready to purchase our first TT. Any recommendations as to what would be a good choice of portable solar panels? Still keeping our toy hauler and big rig for cross country travel but looking forward to getting into some of the smaller state parks. Solar is a new game for me and I don't know much about it. The new TT will be wired for solar. Thanks in advance. Chief916 Ben
  20. Looking for info on how to align the rear tires on a 2015 smart Brabus model. Inside of both rear tires are wearing faster than outside. I thought I would find some info on the HHR guide but didn't see anything....did I overlook and miss it? I went through twice.
  21. Anybody out there using a Honda 5000 Gen set? I bought one about 5 years ago for hurricane season backup. Now I have a whole house Gen and I want to purchase a new smaller TT and use the Honda 5000 on it. Any info appreciated.
  22. Thank you all for your help. Using the sites you sent, I was able to find Eastern Diesel here in South Myrtle Beach. Tony...the owner and his team jumped on my problem and has back on the road in less than two hours. They ended up checking every ground on the truck... pulled the dash and cleaned up every connection and plug and dieelectriced everything that was electrical. The truck is 22 years old so it needed it. Turns out the temp gauge and the oil pressure gauges are on the same circuit board...Tony said their not connected but he believes that when the board heats up that changes the resistance. I'm no tweek so I don't know. Leaving for home this morning so we will see how it does. Again...thanks to all for your advice, support and your help. Ben (chief916)
