But it does get me that the local Kroger store ( at times)has a program so that I can buy a bag of food to give to the homeless.

Come to think on it Kroger hasn't had that program in a while …..I wonder why.

Our Kroger (well, King Soopers which is a Kroger label) does this a couple of times a years. Here they are not giving the meal bags directly to anyone, they go to Care and Share which is the local food bank. It is the food bank that is distributing the food, not King Soopers. Seems to me that in Texas the HEB stores do something similar once or twice a year.

  2. Well to revive this old thread, I finally got my Yaesu FT-8800R mounted in the truck. I had long eyeballed the overhead glasses holders but was unwilling to start dismantling all that to see if I could make it work. I finally bit the bullet and gave it a go and it all worked out.

Since I was only mounting the control head I dry fitted it before doing some surgery on one of the holders. Since it looked like it was going to work I took the overhead console out and then went to work with a Dremel tool and a cutting wheel. The only thing I needed was an extension cord for the mic which I got off Ebay for $5. The end result even surprised me.

Does anyone see a problem with AARIS Surfboard Modem/Routers?  Are these generally considered good units?

    Dennis

I had a AARIS Surfboard modem (only) several years ago as that was what my internet provider at the time was, well, providing. I never had any complaints but I can not address today's quality/reliability.

  4. RVTripWizard. Yes, it is something that requires an annual subscription but the all the features make it well worth it my opinion. It is constantly updated and in fact right now has the option to hide RV parks that are closed due to COVID which really helps in planning. I would go to the site and mess around with the trial version to see what you think.

  5. Having lived in Scotland and traveled back to the USA i can say that it is about the same price to fly into Los Angeles as it is San Francisco and LA is closer to Las Vegas. It is also even less expensive to fly into LA from Dublin and the flights from Aberdeen or Glasgow to Dublin are pretty inexpensive.

I know nothing about storage but as others have indicated indoor storage would seem to be the best not only because of heat but other weather hazards as well. I have been to Las Vegas in the summer (not by choice but for a wedding) and never again. I don't care how dry it is but 113F. is well beyond my comfort zone.

So, you are OK with tracking your fitness by an app but not tracking your health with one? That makes sense to you?

    Linda

Absolutely, Linda, because as I said I have little to no trust of Google or Apple when it comes to privacy. Now if 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 outside privacy agencies will certify the security and privacy of my info then I might reconsider.

First it only works with bluetooth enabled phones, then you have to opt-in, then others have to meet those criteria as well. Not perfect but better than nothing. Otherwise the limitations set sound like good ones to me.

    Linda

Since I rarely, well almost never, turn off Bluetooth on my phone if for no other reason than that is what my fitness watch uses, I will not be loading the app. There are ongoing concerns with the privacy that both Goggle and Apple afford users right now as is without letting them access even more. I simply do not trust their privacy assurances. But that is me.

Chalkie,  I found a reference to running an XP emulator  in Win7, but Microsoft has removed that software from their site.  The problem I have is that Plustek deliberately obsoleted their hardware by not developing Win 10 drivers.

Seriously, before giving up and wiping Windows 10, please, try loading the software that you have and then "right click" and choose to run it compatibility mode. Give it a try! The worse that can happen is that is does not work and you need to uninstall it.

Express-Scripts is the pharmacy end of TRICARE for retired military and DOD employees.

Just an FYI. While Express Scripts does do home delivery of prescriptions for Tricare they are not just for Tricare. My son is in the IBEW (electrician union) and they use Express Scripts and I am sure there are a large number of other plans that do as well.

I think it is rude for you to make that allegation.  I am a GS life member and a former club officer.  I LOVE the GS club as well as the SKP club.  However I have no affection or respect for the corporate office. To the corporate office the club is a "marketing tool".

DO NOT confuse the club with corporate, they are entirely different entities other than the corporate owns the club.

I apologize. In my mind there is no way possible to separate the two since one IS owned by the other. In fact, should Good Sam Enterprises decide that the "club" was making insufficient revenue it would fold the club in a heartbeat. It is more than an advertising or marketing tool it is a revenue stream. Good Sam Enterprises is struggling somewhat right now in no small part due the acquisition of bankrupt Gander Mountain topped off by nationwide stay at home orders. I personally have no problem seeing Good Sam Enterprises do whatever it takes to maintain as much revenue as possible.

At any rate, what's done is done. I haven't gotten much use out of my Good Sam membership, in fact have not even gotten back enough to break even on membership cost, and will not renew again.

RVTravel.com has a big issue with everything Good Sam related.  In fact, they are very negative in general.

I put more stock in the information released by TSD than rvtravel.

Yes, yes, they do with good cause IMO. The articles I provided links to laid out a very clear chain of events, again IMO. At the risk of name calling and based on what you yourself have provided as to your affiliations with Good Sam, you sure sound like a Good Sam apologist.

Pilot/Flying J was required by contract with GoodSam to not offer a discount to motorhomes not using the GoodSam card.

Clearly, not just motorhomes if other posts in this thread are accurate.

Good Sam and Marcus Lemonis had nothing to do with the decision.

And finally from a very reputable source (IMO), rvtravel.com, comes the answer.

Seems that Sam has an exclusive discount program with Pilot/Flying J. RVers are only to receive discounts on fuel purchases at these branded outlets IF they have a Good Sam membership card.

The folks at the TSD program weren’t aware of this arrangement until they got a call from Pilot’s management. The discount program that TSD had with Pilot for about four months or so is suddenly being canceled. Pilot has to honor its agreement with Good Sam.

The full article https://www.rvtravel.com/diesel-938/ and there is a follow on article which to me appears that Pilot is doing damage control for Good Sam in its lameness. https://www.rvtravel.com/diesel-939/

I see this stated a lot, but without any substantiation.  Or, well, maybe statements that he's the type to do this, or why else would P/FJ drop TSD.  But no proof that Good Sam forced P/FJ to drop TSD.  Do you have some?

Yes, please, some substantiation. The TSD website still says it works at ALL truck stops.

  14. I've been grappling with where to put my radio ever since I got the current truck a couple of years ago. No offense to your install but that just wouldn't work for me. For one the vents are completely different and I have always liked having the mic and control head on the right. I finally decided just recently to modify one of the drop down sunglasses holders in the overhead as the mounting point and will run an extension via Cat5 for the mic to be on the right side of the steering column. The radio itself will be behind the back seat as well. I'll post a couple of pics when I get it done. Haven't been in a big hurry, just working on it a bit in between other "stay home" projects.

To find the phone # just do a search, it's not on their website_for some reason.

It is on the Amazon website, but kind of buried. They want you to use chat to resolve issues as a first choice. I actually prefer that for two reasons. One, at the end you have a transcript of the contact and two, as I get older I have a harder time understanding foreign accents over the phone.

Interstate batteries are not the best to begin.

Just to point out that depending on Group Size, Consumer Reports would disagree with you as Interstate batteries come in at the top or near the top of the list in a number of sizes.

It is definitely worth researching any battery you intend to purchase to make sure you are getting the most for your money.

That might work on a route where there is not a lot of mail,no businesses, or no Amazon deliveries, or FedEX, UPS, DHL, or one of the many services that the USPS provides "last mile" service.

I have been mulling this statement over. First, why is the USPS providing "last mile" service to these other carriers? It is not because the carriers are throwing USPS a bone, it is because the that last mile is not profitable to those carriers. So if it is not profitable to them, is it really profitable to the USPS? As to Amazon, Amazon Logistics is now delivering 50% of all Amazon deliveries and that number is growing constantly. Amazon's goal is to deliver 100% of orders through its own system which will cut off that revenue stream to the USPS.
