Were you trying to book a very early or very late ride?

No.  11 am... a time Uber chose for me. I Force stopped the app, I even reinstalled it.  Same results.

I even had enough Uber cash to pay for it. The moment I deposited to Uber cash my Amex card notified me of possible fraud, immediately.

We use Uber occasionally but haven't run into the issues that you describe.

    There's more.

Today I tried booking 2 hours in advance.  No matter what payment method I used, it rejected all of them.  That was an hour's worth of fun, trying to get that to work.

When I got to town at the rental car return, I booked a ride immediately, no problem.  The driver's English was so bad I couldn't understand a word he said.

Good luck trying to contact anyone at Uber.

I have been getting e-mails about a new "Uber-One" service, offering a year for $49.99 (half price).  It sounds like you got signed up for this.  Is it possible you clicked on something in the app accidentally?

That must be it.. thanks.  I've been getting offers on my phone for meals.. etc.  I have no idea how I did that.   All it said in any of the Paypal notices was "billing agreement".. nothing about Uber One.

Anyway, the cab ride from Henderson to Lake Mead was pretty cheap, and on time and in a clean car.

  4. I rarely use Uber, but, I'm in the Las Vegas area and do need it.  I'm experiencing some very strange things from them.

I tried to book a trip a couple days in advance using their app.  A driver texted me immediately and said he was 'on his way.'  NO NO.. I replied ... in 2 days!!  He replied "ok", and I thought that was the end of it.  An hour later I get a bill through paypal for $12 for a cancellation.

Today I see a bill for $49.99 on my Paypal account for signing up for a "billing agreement", which I did NOT knowingly do.  Either I'm getting senile or somebody's hiding these "you agree to..."  things in the fine print.

Anyone else have these kinds of issues?

  5. When you're in the Las Vegas area, and dig old pinball machines, stop by the Pinball Hall of Fame and check out their store kitty.  He's a big 11 yo bruiser and loves affection.  Found him on the counter.

  6. These people are not going to like what I have to say about them...is what I originally typed, but since then my internet is working!

I hammered on these people for 4 days to get online, and it's about time since my phone is getting low on hotspot data. I don't know what they did, if anything, to fix it, but they aren't volunteering any information,  so I'm not going to press it.

Out of 5 techs I found one that knew what he was doing, and we could text rather than annoying phone calls. I much prefer text as it's direct and to the point, as opposed to voice where things are more prone to misunderstanding and getting side -tracked.  And sometimes the inflection or emotion in a voice can be unnerving and convey a meaning that isn't intended.

You don't pay for gas if the pump was set to start without inserting a CC, i.e. if the gas station relied on you coming into the store after you pump to settle up.

(and hold) were raised to say $200, , a family on a road trip vacation in their small car that only buys $20 or so of gas at a time could find a large percentage of their credit limit arbitrarily off limits for a while.  Not good if they were planning to push their card's credit limit for other vacation expenses like getting a hotel room, Disneyland admission for themselves and their kids, etc.

I have never been to a gas station that allows pumping then paying.  A family on vacation should have way more than $200 at their disposal.

Those limits are imposed by credit card processing companies, as they get paid by the number of charge accounts they process not the amount.

And here I thought it was done by each individual station, since they're all different.  What's really doesn't make sense is when a sign says they do because of "drive offs."  How the heck does one pay for gas then drive off?
