  1. Since you refer to the HDT example in that fashion I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that you are referring to me. First of all, I don't post on this topic much at all. If I'm spewing doom and gloom, I guess I'm not doing it very effectively since I have about 6 posts. I move the money that is my active "living" money in and out of the market as I see fit. As I've said, I was mostly out for a time. My long term money stays in at all times, but is shifted around as appropriate. Appropriate, in MY eyes.
  2. Good one, John. I still have a fair amount out. I have some "really long term" money in. Perhaps I'm losing an opportunity. But I do not trust this market - there are too many fundamental things wrong, and since I am no longer a "trader" I'm not playing market changes.
  3. Headed back to Summerdale, AL after 10 days in Tampa for the RV Show. Will be in Summerdale until mid Feb, when we head to TX.
  4. That Eagle is sweet. Got some more pics? Especially of the interior. Got a photo album on Picasa or someplace like that? Just post a link to it!!
  5. Gold! Now THERE is a good investment (he says with sarcasm).
  6. Arrived at Rainbow Plantation in AL for the next few months - with a "vacation" to the Tampa RV show in January. We are in site 14.
  7. Headed for Rainbow Plantation, AL from VA in the morning. On edit - well we are stuck here for a couple of days while my back heals.....pulled some muscles or something.....will try for AL later in the week!
  8. Dan, I will share with you the one thing I have learned about investing that keeps me out of trouble. "Don't be greedy". Every time I break that rule I regret it. I rarely regret the opposite - selling a position before I think I've squeezed the last dime out of it.
  9. We are in transit to VA to visit Danielle's sister and BIL for a couple of weeks. Currently in Tom Sawyer in West Memphis - leaving this morning headed to Crossville, TN area. Gonna try a new park - Spring Lake RV Resort. Looks good for HDTs...I'll get it in the Campground Guide if it works out. It also looks to be a great place for a Rally.
  10. I'm back in Junction City after taking a Friday-Sunday run back to CO. Nice to be in the mountains with snow...but only for a few days. I left the smart there and came back in a rental car.
  11. Jim, we looked at that resort when they were selling lots. Originally they would only allow motorhomes, but they opened it up to trailers. Originally they also had VERY narrow lots. But I saw they combined some together. We have not been there for at least 4 years - but it is a very nice place.
  12. I totally agree, John. Not that it matters.....
  13. We are in Junction City, KS at the New Horizons factory having some minor fixes done. We are also having basebords and chair rail added to the coach (done), and are considering some panels in the "wainscoting" area.....that remains to be decided. Roger and Debbie Rauch are here, as are Bonnie and Gail Quinn. We had two smokers going a few days ago and had smoked turkey and brisket. Corams left on Saturday. Craig and Lydia are here as well. The parking lot was/is full of HDTs.....
  14. I'm not a doom and gloom guy. I've made my fair share in up and down markets...there is always opportunity. However, I would caution against taking a single perspective on the market.....there is merit in multiple views of what is going on.....I suggest one may want to study some of the contrarian articles that Mauldin reprints. There are some interesting perspectives there. Also, while one might feel that Mauldin is a "perma bear" he is not always that - if you study his data longer term you might find differently. However, he certainly has a bear view right now. IMO with good reasoning. That does not mean the market will go down though....the market rises during bear periods as well as goes down....and there is much opportunity.
  15. No, use 3M 5200 "fast cure" marine adhesive. It will hold it far better and you will not have to penetrate your roof with a screw. Had you attended the RV Electrical seminar you would know that.....
  16. Clearly, the market can do well even in "challenging" times. The only thing that matters is the bottom line. If you stayed totally in during the last year you did fine. I'm "in" at the 2/3 level on my stock market allocations. I took 1/3 out during the course of this year. I'll put it back in during a major dip IF I think there is a chance for a near-term recovery (near-term being up to 2 years for me). If not, I'll put it into something else. For now it is just sitting earning about a half percent. Waiting. I've hedged my bet on this "run". We will see if it pays off.....
  17. Or, come down and visit us in the CO Rockies (front range) in Woodland Park. Sharon will vouch for the area beauty....not as nice a BV but still a great place.... (see, some men DO read this section.... )
  18. Victor, first, welcome to the HDT forum. Next, you might want to attend the HDT Rally if at all possible. You will find it very helpful. Lastly, take a look at my website if you have not - I have lots of New Horizons info on it. If you have questions on a NH I'd be happy to help you.
  19. Rocky, are you getting these locations into the campground guide?
  20. The sticky topic is a great solution. Sharon, we were out at Mt. Princeton visiting some friends and saw your rig...but you guys were not around.....
  21. The fires are all around us. The southern part of Woodland Park are on pre-evacuation alert. I doubt they will evacuate. Cascade, Green Mountain Falls and area is evacuated. Manitou Springs WAS evacuated but let back in at 8pm last night. The firefighters are doing a great job on the hotspots, along with air support - serious air support. A bunch of choppers and some BIG airpower in last evening to kill a hotspot just north of us. Nothing like seeking two C-130s working a fire. They drop some serious amounts of retardant. The main fire is still going uncontained as of last night.
  22. If you want to read some more balanced analysis I suggest John Mauldin. Google it. (John, I know you already read him....) He is usually spot on. And at least he will say WHY he believes in something. His analysis is "approachable" and will allow someone who "wants" to think this stuff through to do so.....
  23. Just a comment...... Back when I was a "trader" - which I am NOT, now - whenever I bought something (bought vs invested) I ALWAYS worked out what I would sell at on both the high and low sides BEFORE I bought it. In fact I would usually have a sell order in on it for the low side. But IMO you need to know going in what your expectations are. And mine were always in writing.....eg. in my spreadsheet or other trading tools I used. JMO.
  24. Made it to Woodland Park without incident yesterday. Avoided the worst of the wind, but had a 25mph cross/ head wind almost all the way. Pretty much put me into the 5-6mpg range on the plains. When we pulled into Oakley, KS Saturday afternoon the temp was 98*. When we pulled into Woodland Park Sunday afternoon the temp was 56*. This morning there is snow on the ground and in the pines.....Pretty nice out!!
  25. Left Junction City,KS yesterday headed towards Woodland Park, CO for the summer. Should get there today if the wind does not blow me off the road.
