    Putting the box on plastic or rubber is a good idea.

    He puts them on sideways, the open ends are side to side, vs. front to back.

    Toilet in my trailer had issues, would bubble bad if trailer was not level. After bigfoots installed, bubble went away when flushing. two years later, still no bubble. YMMV.

    I resisted for two years, finally saved up the cash, no matter how much you try, you can never get the trailer as level as with big foots/hydraulic levelers. The door shuts easier, toilet flushes better, shower drains better, etc. Single best upgrade to the trailer IMO. Close second is Truma tankless water heater. 

    I'll have to try and find a picture. Bill Moriarty has landing blocks that hang on the leveler feet. Basically the block has small, aluminum angle iron on three sides on the top. Slides the open end over the feet, then deploys the legs.

  3. forgot to close the loop on this, the controller board failure. The bad part is the controller board is hard soldered into the inverter itself. Requires a replacement of the entire inverter side of the equation. It's a common problem and the bigger Onan/cummins service centers have them on the shelf. $2600 part, have to take the genset completely out of the rig to replace. runs like a top now. 

    If I understood correctly, Onan redesigned and after 2018, they are now separate components and can be replaced separately.

    The DRV we have was special ordered and took over 6 months to build with all the changes and DRV will not build me a replacement like I have, so I'm looking at Luxe. Build time is 4 months after I order so April is out unless the insurance company writes the check.

    all fuel filters are new, davco is at very bottom of gauge as it is when new. 

    I'm planning on doing rawse's EGR cleanout when I have a few days and it's not 108 heat index and 200% humidity. 

  7. 8 hour drive yesterday TX, started in Amarillo

    external temp was 108 for last 5 hours of trip

    oil pressure 40psi all day

    water temp steady at 180 all day

    oil temp 225 all day

    magic plug unplugged still

    on cruise at 70mph, 10psi boost, 15-18psi on pulls, never dropped below 55, trans didn’t downshift today,  it lugged it in 12th (which it wouldn’t do before) freedomline trans. 

    Good news is AC is working like a champ! I also mounted a $5 fan behind driver’s seat above my head blowing down on neck/back. Big help. I will upgrade to variable speed and higher quality fan now that I know it helps. Figured $5 was good experiment money spent. Now will get a good fan. 

  8. Since we are on the road, no time to pull and clean whole system. Since my ISX is old, I tried the “magic plug”’ trick. For testing purposes, I unplugged the EGR valve sensor. Today pulling from Farmington, NM to TX, didn’t drop below 50 on any hill. Night and day difference. Looks like 20psi max on turbo, so still low, but so much better than the 10mph on the pulls the day before. 

    Still very little jake braking. Is this compression driven?

    When I have a few days sitting still, I will take the EGR system apart and clean it all out and replace the sensors. 

    Good news is the check engine light works now came on when I was testing the EGR sensor plug.

     

  9. So headed out west and lost power along the way. In CO, pulling the grades at 15 mph. Turbo boost is barely 10 psi. Not burning oil, not blowing smoke, no check engine light. 

    Take it into shop and they say it has an EGR code and a Turbo code. EGR is stuck open and won't shut. Replace EGR and no other codes. Today pulled all the way from SLC to Farmington, getting bursts up to 20 psi on the turbo, but still down on power. Not burning oil, not blowing any smoke, no check engine light, Taking the hills about 25-30 mph, so better than it was, but not like it used to be. Once we hit the flat, cruise all day long at 70. 761k on ISX. 

    Another symptom, 3 stage jake used to about throw you through the windshield, now on stage 3, not really holding back at all. Compression issue? 

    Anything to check? How to diagnose? is this a compression check, dyno? Time for turbo? or inframe? 

    Good news, AC is working great, generator is working great, air bags all fixed. transmission is shifiting great, front steers riding nice, and new lock on the fridge keeps the door shut and stuff inside the fridge. (gotta look at the bright side). We are getting there, just slow in the mountains.

    The square hole on the short handle is what is hitting the side rail on the trailer saver hitch. I have to bend it up a bit or shorten it about an inch and then it would not hit the side rail. Truck is at the shop getting a wheel seal and airbags right now. When I pick it up I’ll take a pic. That handle would totally work if it would just clear the rail another inch when loaded. 

  11. I think the unistrut will work. Just have to “s” bend it up so it will clear the side rail on the trailer saver hitch when loaded, right now, the bar will go forward, but. It enough to unlock jaws. I jack the trailer up about two inches and the bar will then go forward another inch needed to unlock. The trailer saver has a downward slope on the frame of the hitch. 

  12. Update, after hauling rest of way from Kansas to Utah, discovered, I can only unhitch if I lift the trailer up enough to get the handle to slide forward enough to release the jaws. 

    I will need to bend the handle up a couple of inches to clear the side rail of the hitch with weight on the hitch. And it needs to be a few inches longer as mentioned above. 

  13. Update: all fixed up. 

    Youngs didn’t have any heads out together, so they had to put one together for me. Longest part was waiting for the paint to dry. 

    this is what it looked like under the head. While it was off I sprayed it down with greased lightning and used a can of rustoleum black to clean it up  I also lubed the mounting holes for the head rocker box that are not serviceable. Looked pretty good all painted up and I hope it keeps the rust at bay.

    We got the head on and they built it at same height as the old head. As someone mentioned, it rubbed on a couple of areas as it is so much bigger than the Binkley unit. We had to grimd out about 1/2” out of the rear plate of the trailersaver. It is already ground out, just opened it up 1/2” more on each side to allow for full side to side head articulation. Here’s a pic showing where it was hitting on the head (white marks on head .

    the other problem was the forward to back movement  the super Brinkley ET head was way longer and deep, you can see difference here. White mark is where is was first hitting

    This is is where they tapered the ends to allow the downward clearance on the back bar  shaped it more like the small head was.

    now have full articulation side to side and front to back with no interference.

    Side by side comparison. The ET head has so much more meat. It weighs over twice as much and is just solid.

    i didn’t realize how much the trailer was moving around with the old head. With the ET head on there, everything feels solid. The old head also literally fell apart on the bench when we dropped it on the bench. Both pins popped out and lots of parts fell out. Truly blessed I saw that pin walking out at a pit stop and I put it back in with a retainer bolt. Could have been a disaster.

    The only thing I don’t like about the ET Super Binkley Head is the super short handle. I’m 6’5” with long arms and it is hard for me to reach that short handle and pull the release pin at the same time. 

    Also, I need to know what grinding discs they are using. They ground that head plate, which I believe is 3/8” down in about 30 sec  it was crazy how fast they took it down to the right angle

    Big shoutout to Young’s for working me in and getting me all fixed up. They mentioned they had sold 16 ETs since Jan already. I think Jack and team at RVHL installed all of them. There was also a new comfort ride on a pallet there that they were going to modify to fit a truck for RVHL.

    Spent a few min at RVHL with Jack and Jonah, good dudes and the new Volvo’s are beautiful and the beds are even beautifuler. 

    Also, big thanks again to West Side tire in Chanute as well. 

    AND, the city has an RV park about 1/2 mile down the road from Youngs and Kansas RV Center. FREE for two days and $10 a day after that. 50a and water. The sites by the bathrooms are all concrete and longer than the ones on the corner/intersection. 

    And the “Grain Bin” restaurant downtown is awesome. Breakfast all day. The smothered hash browns were delish. This beauty was parked next to my truck when we came out. Big parking lot across the street.
