  1. Merry Christmas to all from sunny , hotter than^ (84°) south Texas. ;)

It is very comfortable outside in shorts and T shirt , with a smooth breeze to even things .

I hope all of you are well and happy .

Sure I do.  But what good does their value do until they're actually sold?  It's not my impression that people give things like this with the expectation that the recipient will sell them when they need or want some money.  Instead, it is hoped that the recipient will treasure the objects, in which case their value shouldn't matter at all, and the recipient is a bad/ungrateful person if he divests himself of them.

All in all, I think kids (and a lot of adults) would prefer a gift card over collectibles they don't actually collect, and it's not because they're foolish.

Hmm , isn't impatience a real big part of being foolish ?

I am sitting in the living room of my Christmas present (also my anniversary, birthday, etc.) for the next few years.   We have purchased a home in Mesa, AZ and are moving into it.   Will officially become Arizona residents on January 2nd.  Takes time to make a move and trying to do registrations, etc. during Christmas-New Years is just impossible.    So I now have a DISHWASHER, a Garbage Disposal and TWO TOILETS!   As one ages, the advantage of that 2nd toilet become more and more and more evident!  😉

    Congratulations , Barb . :)

How long do you think it will take you before you stop lifting your foot to flush ? LOL

What lies ahead?  Keeping a collection of dolls or soldiers they don't like only because someone gave it to them?  And then have someone deal with it when they die?

Obviously you have little idea of the value of old dolls and soldier figures .

    That's alright . Not everyone knows everything . ;)

Foolish for not caring about a collection that was foisted on them, no matter how well intentioned?  Do kids ever turn their nose up at a gift card from somewhere they like?  Adults might, because it might not seem thoughtful enough, but I doubt kids care.

They are only foolish because they usually don't know any better .

They simply haven't been around long enough to have a genuine idea of what might lie ahead .

Just plain and simply stating what should be obvious . ;)

12V Power Converter WFCO 55 amp. Last winter came to the realization our 12V converter wasn't working. In a pinch, Looked up the closest Camping World and they had the converter in stock. I installed the new converter and back in business. Kept the old one and since I worked in electronics for 25 years, I took the old one apart to diagnose the failure and found one leg of a component soldered to the board had broken off, probably due to vibration. The converter has no shock mounts. There was enough of the leg left to reattach to the board, so using my pin soldering iron and solder sucker, removed the component, then resoldered it to the board and used some non conducting stabizing/glue between it and other components to secure them. Works great, now we have a spare 12V converter!

I'm the same way about 'stuff' that takes it's leave . Always good to have a spare . 👍

Yea, we hope so, my problem is, go with a class A and enclosed trailer, or keep the RAM and get a toy hauler.  Really need to make sure whichever does a good job of hauling our HD Tri-Glide with us.  On the other hand, ability to tow a small vehicle also beckons at us.  We are hoping when the virus settles down and ppl get back to normal(?) we could find a good used, 1-2 yr old RV, time will tell.

    Choices , choices ...

I wouldn't expect the virus to 'settle down' anytime soon . Hospitals are full with Covid patients , with no end in sight .

New variants pop up on a seemingly regular basis .

Pretty sure your mentioned normal is a thing of the past .

Anyway , I'd do it while you can . ;)

Welp, a guy from the transportation company came and picked up the camper today.  She's gone, now just a fond memory of the joy she gave us.  Actually felt pretty sad watching her leave.  My place just doesn't look/feel right without a camper sitting here.

Maybe a replacement will 'soon' fill the void ?

  9. I'll start :

One day , a short while ago , I turned on the TV and there were no stations available .

Just the night before we watched a couple hours of prime time OTA .

So , no TV since .

I'd checked all connections and thought about what might be the cause .

After eliminating everything else , I tore the original Batwing antenna off it's perch and took it apart .

Inside , I found a couple decades of dust and a couple of stink bugs . Stupid stick bugs , anyway .

There is also a small circuit board . It was covered in a few layers of dust . I cleaned that off to find a small char on the underside of the board .

Hmm . turned out to be a connecting link between two components . That link was about the width of a human hair and it traversed about a quarter inch .

I ended up using a piece of bread bag tie wire to reconnect the two components .

That job required the use of my reading glasses and a magnifying glass to see the where and what ...

Anyway , re-installed the circuit board in the antenna body and freshened up all contact points and put the antenna back together .

Put it back on it's perch , connected the cable and went inside to try a channel search .

Dang , only good for a dozen channels . I guess that's pretty decent , considering the closest tower is over 50 miles away .

    I'm calling it a good save . ;)

  10. A late update ...

Just to take this thread to an end , below is a pic of how I finished the cubby alongside the new fridge .

I made the two doors from the wood panels we saved off the front of the Norcold 1200 .

I found matching 'screen' on the internet so I could tie them in with the doors for the washer/drier cabinet .

DW is happy with the outcome and that makes me happy . ;)
