  1. Put this thread to bed.  Finally got the hose off, another fabricated, and reassembled.  All is well.  Will introduce another product that helped get the connection loose…Wurt Rost Off Extra along with heat.  Seemed to work when Kroil didn’t.  Also biggest obstacle during project was cable ties securing the hose were up under the cab in hard to reach places on special brackets.  I developed a tool to access and cut those and had to remove my batteries and contort on the battery platform to reattach.

Good stuff.  I cut my teeth on old Farmalls and John Deeres.  The Farmalls had had a cartridge filter that could not be pre-filled, and the Deeres had horizontal filters.

Most of my light duty trucks (half tons through one tons) have had horizontal filters too.

I'll see if I can dig up documentation on how much oil goes through the filter v. how much is by-passed.

Remember from your high school “scientific method “, one fact, when proven, can rule a hypothesis (myth) false.

That, if true, would apply to  DP MH's too then. Whoever told you that was proudly displaying their ignorance.

Agreed.  I would be interested in accident statistics (major and minor) matching those using HDTS as RV toters vs. commercial and miles driven.  I know there are some of our group that have had accidents but I would dare say it is rare.  Is anyone aware of anyone in our group that has been involved in an accident resulting in a fatality?  Don’t have any information on DPs.

Teardrops are for lil trucks, how about a back course off a DME arc

    Steve,

If we ever meet again, remind me to tell you about a localizer back course at night into Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas in a C182.  Winds were 40 knots sustained with gusts to 55 dead off the nose.  Ground speed was 30-35 knots!

Well, except one retired MD from Tennessee.

Wow, that’s a low blow.  😢 Just because I use an RNAV approach plate and waypoints doesn’t mean It’s unsafe.  😛

  6. Rick,

Here’s a myth up for discussion.  “If you don’t have a CDL then you weren’t trained and you’re not safe” in an HDT.  I was told this once while fueling in Oklahoma on the way to the National Rally.

So many factors in that equation..... Lets assume you mean on a tandem, for rv use.  Will they wear out sooner?  Of course.  Will they outlast the rest of the truck?  Probably, since they will likely still be loaded well within the design parameters.

That one came up here years ago when wrknrver was criticized for his doing just that.  Perhaps he'll drop by and give us a progress report.

How about "why big trucks don't have self cancelling turn signals?" (our Volvo did).

Ok Rick, I’ll bite.  Why do they not have self canceling turn signals?  BTW the FAA requires nitrogen in commercial aviation tires.  Helps prevent moisture and breakdown of rubber due to oxidation.  DOT May have some obscure line somewhere requiring the same in commercial vehicles thus perpetuating the myth.

Carl, remember that money can't buy happiness but it can buy tools which is the next best thing.

If you can find a can of Kroil penetrating oil, try it. It's not cheap but it is the best on the market to break things loose.

Ok, will try to find some Kroil.

    Carl,

Do you have a set of flare nut crowfoot wrenches? Put them on a pair of  24" ratchets, put some heat on the larger connection nut and they should break loose.

Have some crowfoot. Not sure if they are large enough. Will check. May be time for more tools. 😊  Just can’t see paying shop $185 an hour when I could spend on tools.

  10. Just want to ask about another option to cover my bases.  Both top and bottom connections are seized.  Going to try heat and PB Blaster.  If all else fails removing the hose, could I simply cut the rusted connection end off and have a new end fabricated and splice into the remaining hose with a barbed connection?  If so would want something better than regular hose clamps.  Max pressure in that feed line to dryer is 185 psi and mine “chuffs” at 135 psi.  BTW I’m replacing the air dryer also so getting the rusted connection off will not be necessary.  Will get new connections.  Understand this solution would be last resort only.

So it would be a transaction for refer, then another transaction for tractor. YhInteresting,  so you could get a hint of red dye in your tanks from fuel left in the pumps hose and delivery system if the last use was refer?

When I went to the TA to use the tsd card for diesel in the f450 I remember the prompts for tractor,  refer, def, cash back  etc but just choose tractor, thinking refer was other side of island.  So that passengers side pump has its own card reader and user terminal I suppose.

    Thanks for the education!

The second pump on the passenger side is a “slave” pump to the drivers side.  It is simply there to fill the passenger side tank.  Same diesel, NO separate card reader so you can’t do a separate transaction on that pump.  Even old dogs like me can learn new tricks.  I did not know dyed diesel was available at truck stops.  Being raised in a farming community, thought it only was available at Co-Ops.  Secondly it never dawned on me what the “refer” was referring to when I was using my card at the pump.  I continue to learn daily from the smart people on this site.

    Carl,

This is a gif of the compressor and hose for my 2020 D13.

If the hose looks the same he numbers are:

    3    990424    1        hose assembly    M12x1.5*6*225

    4    977639    2        nipple    M12X1,5 6MM L

I can add vin's to my customer portal and probably get the #'s for your exact truck.

Thanks so much.  I will personal message my vin# to you.  What you show looks correct.  Going to try and get some pictures today and will send also.  Was going to do it yesterday but was cold and windy.  These old bones don’t like the cold.

Take it off, find a hose/hydraulic shop, wait at the counter for 1/2 cup of coffee, pay on your way out. No part number needed.

Easier said than done.  RandyA in a previous thread described trying to remove the hose and ended up having to cut and destroy it in the process.  Would like to one in hand prior to having to go to that extreme.  I have another dealer source that may be willing to give me the number.

  14. Spin,

My vote is for the add on system and keep the propane furnace as a “just in case”.  Doesn’t mean you will need it but speaking from experience, we were caught in Amarillo, TX in an ice storm and 19*.  No electricity, no water, and no stand alone generator.   Now my coach has a propane generator, but it would eat up a couple of 40# propane bottles pretty quickly.  Thank heavens for my backup propane furnace and some well prepared good friends who were camping with us and provided two Honda gas gens and 5 gallons of water (more if we needed).

No part numbers. But any hose you get, unless it's in a sealed bag, be sure to blow air through it before installation to remove any cutting and pressing debris. Depending upon what type of ends Volvo uses, do not use any sort of sealing paste or tape unless it is a pipe thread fitting. IMO.

    Good advice.  Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words ol' buddy.  And you still don't know whether to trust me......

I was sitting back, waiting to see if my input was validated by someone with real experience.  I'm going to add, if you measure your failing hose, and call a couple truck parts houses, I'll bet they have it in stock.  When Steve Dixon need one, my local Mack dealer had them.  In his case, we had to piece two shorter ones together, as his used hose for the entire run.

Made a call to dealer. They can get it but 3 weeks unless I pay overnight freight, hence why I wanted part # to check couple other places. Local dealer doesn’t like to give out part numbers. (BTW you’re still my bud.  Just kidding wit ya).
