Got to get to the Kitchen to flip the pancakes so that's it for this morning.

It's been a great rally, lots of new folks and a Whole lot of vehicles in the photo shoot as you might see. I didn't climb to the the top of the Grandstand and that's where the Official Photo was taken. Have seen a few views and it's impressive.

First time in a Motorhome, 12 Prior Rally's in first rig, second rig occupants have attended 18 rally's.

    That's all for today.

  4. A guy parked next to me at the HDT Rally has a Mini Split 12 volt added to the back of his Volvo. He either said $500 or $700 installed a few years ago, and it works great. A/C went out in the truck and instead of $XXXX he went with $XXX. I'll post a  photo of it later. (The ODU). He commented that the Mr. Cool is similar and with their "Charged" lines an easier install. May won't to add that to the Pro/Con list.

Nice looking truck. Someone will snatch it up.

By the way you can access FB from ANY computer including a smart phone. facebook.com and login. Good luck.

Yea, I don't want to get into that FB thing again, so it will stay on that one computer. Thanks for the comment and suggestion.

    Darryl&Rita,

Thanks for the comment and suggestion too. See above.

  6. Ok, my date was off. It felt like a Sunday yesterday morning, but clearly it was not.

The official Start of the Rally  is today at noon.

The early arrivers were allowed early check in and are now in possession of their name tag, T-shirt or shirts and the latest schedule. mrOyTcyl.jpg

They were also given a sneak peek at the Auditorium which will be utilized this year for many of the seminars.

I attended the Car Show in downtown Hutch and found this lovely.

She didn't win the contest, but it was a panel of 4 judging and not a "Popular" vote.

Visited with "Steve" and got a tour of the "Shop". If you get the chance it's quite an interesting building and equipment.

Lots of new people here this year, several LGT's and some very nice New Trucks.

Finally a shout out to Warren. Once again he is Mr. Fix it for many at the rally. Restoring heat for those who suffered with no heat on the coldest night so far. Providing a Movie to be viewed last night in the Auditorium "Ford vs Ferrari" and for getting the Huge White Tarp to show it on. Almost filled the entire stage. I took a video, but apparently not a still photo. Will see if I can post a link to the video.

    Looks like it's here.

  7. Got a friendly local plumber? They sometimes use scopes, there are tool scopes that might be rentable at one of the parts stores, and I remember seeing something that could attach to an iPhone at one time, but it was a long time ago and not available for an android at that time.

Good luck and let us know what and where you find something.

  8. GOOD MORNING,

The 2023 National HDT Rally will officially start in just a few seconds, minutes or hours , depending on when the attendees start getting out of their rigs and start heading to the building.

I was out early this morning to catch the "Frost" on my Jeep and took a few more photos. Several rigs were seen by me on my search for "Steve's" shop. I found it and hope to visit it today. I also fulfilled my visit to 650 feet underground and took the Salt Mine tour yesterday.

Steve (the rally leader) informed me that there are some interesting new things this year. In addition to the 100 expected Rigs and 220 expected guests, we will now be using the Auditorium for some of the seminars. There apparently is a stage and sound system, not sure if the seating is padded yet, but that would be a big plus.

Found a nice little Candy shop/Grocery and produce store  down by the  "Steve's" shop location that I will visit again called "Smith's". Thanks Steve.

OK, I know you are all just wanting to look at photos and not having to read my drivel so here they come.

How does the cost of the Mini Split compare to the typical rooftop units? ls anyone still installing the basement air in new RVs?

    Kirk,

My first trailer had roof tops. I chose to have nothing on my roof with my custom build. I was told the Basements were more quiet and would preform well. I saw a few in Motorhomes in my earlier searches and the Owners said they were great (they were also trying to sell the Motorhome to me.)

The unit never worked well. It was quieter and if the temperatures were not too extreme it was tolerable and then it broke and was non repairable. I still didn't want "Holes cut into my roof" so I chose to go the Mini Split at around 10K installed as a retrofit (more costly).

I don't know what the price difference is on a new build.

  10. I've waited to respond for a while.

I had to replace my HVAC unit after a very short life. It wasn't a Roof Top model, but a "Basement" unit, but since I upgraded to an LG Mini Split system. I have much less power use, 90% quieter most of the time and so far several years of trouble free use.

I think they are getting to be a standard for both New Horizons and Spacecraft semi custom and full custom builders in the Midwest. Contact them to be sure.

We will be entering a vehicle in the car show on Friday and Saturday, may be a bit cold but we will survive hopefully. If you come by the show and see us by our custom van be sure to say hi.

Are you camping at the Rally or just doing the Car Show?

You can bring as many as you like.     My shop has about an acre of off street parking.     I am in the middle of a lot of projects so there is stuff everywhere!

One thing, I am NOT a morning person!

Should have read this before sending you a reply this morning. I will wait for you to call me. I put my number in the PM.

The shop (or you) can sometimes silicone around the leak.  I have a 2006 D12 and that’s what had been done to mine.  It still leaked but the head mechanic at the Volvo dealership I use said he would continue to drive it until it started leaking more.  I replaced it at the next PM which was a year later.  It’s costly a couple of thousand I think. They do make a patch kit to help keep it from leaking into the ECM.  Early this year I had to replace my ECM and when they opened the back it had water and oil in it but also the sealant around the back plate of the ECM was deteriorated, crumbling and had gaps.  My thoughts are the original “leaking” harness was not the culprit just old sealant.  In summary, you pay your money and take your chances but in all likelihood will be fine until you can replace it.  What I would recommend is, if you are mechanically minded, remove your ECM and look at the sealant on the back and reseal if necessary.  OTR performance has a video on YouTube titled “Volvo Truck/Replacing ECM on D12”.  Doesn’t look like a hard job.  Might want to review this thread for the repair kit

It's a full day for a trained and working professional mechanic with all of the proper tools. At least that's what I was told when my harness bit the dust and took out the ECM too. It's also a lot more than a "Couple Thousand", when it happens. It's really not an "IF" from my understanding. I was also told the repair did not "FIX" the leaking, but apparently they put a different location for the "Failure" to happen before it got to the ECM.

That's my first hand experience so far. That trucks For Sale, btw.

  14. So, I found a tool on both the Matco and Snap On websites. Snap on was the only truck that still comes to the small town in SE Iowa. Drive was nice enough to ship it to me and then stop the next day for payment. The little tool was not strong enough for the job and broke. Sales person didn't charge me for the tool, but I paid him for the shipping. He was happy cause my brother bought a set of Screwdrivers while he was there.

Used a diamond drill and cut a line in the plastic handle, got the plastic out of the way and was able to remove the bottom pin first and then the top. Someone had buggered the ends pretty bad so they would only come out one way. I replace each with a brake shoe pin and they are working fine now.

  15. Good luck with the sale, keep us posted.

I have had little interest in my "Project" truck. It will sell some day, but who knows when that day will come.

I'm at the National HDT Rally so I hope to get some ideas on what's keeping people from looking, other than it's 22 years old.
