drzcharlie
Martha and I traveled through Vicksburg on our way for thanksgiving in Rio Vista Texas. If you are interested here is my blog entry for our visit to the "Vicksburg National Military Park." remoandiris
Visited there 2 years ago. More compact than Gettysburg, but no less reverent. With all the recent anti-Civil War statue hoopla going on in the country, I wonder how long it will be until that part of US history is deleted. richfaa
Been there twice we make it a point to visit historical sites around the country. This is a National park so it is very doubtful that it will be disturbed. Twotoes
Thank you for sharing this story. I have been to Gettysburg and have it on my bucket list to take a summer and go visit all the Civil War battle sites and Vicksburg is definitely on my list. 2015 Itasca Ellipse 42QD 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock Edition 2021 Harley Street Glide Special Fulltimer
scouserl41
Thanks for sharing. We were there earlier this year. The thing that struck me as odd was that they are putting up the price of annual and senior passes and the charges for entrance to the most popular parks, yet there was nobody manning the entrance booth at Vicksburg so people were driving in for free. There were lots of Rangers in the visitor center but apparently they were too "Short staffed" to keep the booth manned??? I really liked the "Cairo" exhibit being an old retired shipyard worker.
