whj469
I am lucky, got a new fiver in February and it has all LEDs. They are very bright and they don't get hot.
Rich Stiner
I lost track of this thread. Going back a month, thank you for the welcome. Diffusers - important with LED lights, but not as important as it was with old-style LEDs (they had intensifier lenses and were very directional). A diffuser is not unlike the frost on an old-style 120-volt light bulb of fluorescent tube. I have two 700-lumen work lamps, one has a diffuser and the other does not. The light with the diffuser glows, the light without appears more "hard-cutting". I can't really explain the appearance better than that, but I can share some information that few people would ever dream up: I am in the electronic vision business, and have been since 1977 (not a typo). Yup, I was there when we had video pick-up tubes - and CCDs crossed my bench in 1985. To explain part of what I do, I program cameras to recognize flaws in produce. You have all heard of facial recognition, but this is taking it up a notch. Say someone has a scar on the right cheek, we would never leave it at that - produce can have good scars or bad scars. It's my job to teach the cameras to recognize whether the scar was from a birth defect, a heat or chemical burn, a cut, an insect, a disease, or what have you. In order to do this, we use multiple spectra of lights and cameras We had a situation with IR cameras showing "light spots" reflecting on the product, and the light spots were negatively effecting the results. We diffused the LED light bars with parchment paper and it evened out the lighting, getting rid of the harsh glare.
RV_
Update: My original recommend was accurate for several months until now. The double sided tape 48 LED types that I originally bought while cheaper than others, are now getting so hot that the adhesive tape is cooking to a brown color and curling up and dropping the LED set onto the lens of the lights. I have since found, bought, and installed what looks to be the best solution and they are here: http://www.amazon.com/24-3528-Bulb-Super-Bright-White/dp/B00EDFM5QU/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1439864532&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=grv+led+921+24-5432 These and a brighter version are discussed here in another thread here on the SKP forums: http://www.rvnetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=119470 I will be ordering ten of the brighter ones too. I want only no tape ones now although I am sure there are some that will work, my experience was that I wasted about 50 bucks. The new ones are much cooler and as bright. There are links there to another bulb the OP uses too. I have not ordered these yet. The bulbs above take a lot of effort to install without pushing on the LED and circuit board. These from day one are much cooler than the 48 LED ones I am now removing. They would be fine for dome lights in a car or other momentary applications but as lights in continuous use they are not acceptable. It took me 50 bucks wasted and a few months to find out their long term deterioration.
