  1. trailertravler: Thank you for the Banfield Pet Hospitals reminder. Pet Smart Stores are good resource - I think that I've used them in the past for getting a pet Health Certificate before crossing the border into Mexico. Thankyou everyone for helping me mentally prepare for a pet emergency. I was kind of floundering when thinking about a "what if" situation. Obviously, there are many pet resources if one knows where to look. I feel much more reassured that I can respond to such an event.
  2. This is really good information. As for Solensia, I explained my travel situation to the vet. If a "foreign" veterinary clinic doesn't have the medication, I was provided with one dose, sealed and refrigerated. I will have a vet somewhere on the road to do the injection. When responsible adults reach an understanding for the common good, it is sometimes okay to bend the rules. And my veterinary clinic is an AAHA accredited clinic.
  3. I'm afraid my four month forthcoming trip to Canada might be Bully's last road trip. He's 19-years-old (cat) and has kidney prescription cat food and needs a prescription Silencia injection every month for arthritis. He's been a camper cat since kitten age. In human years, he's somewhere in his 90's. I'm seeking advice and experiences from those who have had pets needing routine, emergency care or have experienced their pets passing. Most specifically, what does one do with the body if the pet dies or has to be put down? In younger days:
  4. It's probably a bad battery - especially if it's Chinese made. When I opened my Chinese made rechargeable fan I found the battery puffed up (a lithium polymer battery) and the amp hours much less than claimed on their advertising. Dead battery. The manufacturer either lied or their battery supplier cheated them. The lipo batteries will die if their voltage drops below a certain point. I suspect that, over time, they self-discharge to the point where they won't take a charge.
  5. Remember what they say: "location, location, location" If you get it right, property will perform as well as the stock market without the markets, at times, wild gyrations. Your question is for investment advice - and the answer is "it depends".
  6. I refuse to allow the pupil dilation drops (What is Tropicamide made or derived from? : deadly nightshade) There is a small up-charge for not using the drops - there is an alternative method of imaging the retina. For some reason, the effects of tropicamide are not completely gone after a few hours. My vision will retain a slight softness (lack of acuity) for several days.
  7. Yikes! $34 dollars, used on Amazon. And a solid 5 stars. Not available at my public library Overdrive.
  8. I was thinking that this might be something that would hold a few thousand and be mounted inside a closet behind some clothing - or something along those line.
  9. After reading and thinking about the responses to the question I've concluded that "for me" the answer is to have a "set aside" cash amount. The "set aside" amount of cash would be sufficient to fuel the rig back to a safe port or home base in the event of a catastrophic communications failure - where ATM and credit cards might not be reliable. The set aside would be stash cash and I'll probably need a vault of some kind for that. "Wallet cash" would be the amount that many have expressed that they carry. For me, probably no more than $600. though that seems a little high. Historically, there's always been a couple hundred in the camper but never a need for it. This thread has helped me clarify an answer to what is really a personal question. I appreciate all expressed insights - they've proved quite valuable to me.
  10. The guy who bought my Jeep brought $20,000 cash from Washington to Arizona.
  11. I was thinking of cash as an emergency backup system - not really for spending - with the exception of having enough small change for the iron ranger - such as the campground at Castaic Lake in So Cal where iron ranger expressly stated no check accepted. (i had no cash, so they got a check anyway)
  12. Opinions needed: What is a fair amount of cash to carry while on the road for five or six months? Keep some money in the RV and some in the wallet? How much? Thanks in advance. . .
  13. And if the truck has the upfitter switches then check YouTube - there are a number of video regarding connections, etc.
