Computer battery

I have a Gen 1 1999 Volvo VNL610, 12.7 D60 engine which has had a code since I purchased it, that is a auxiliary power code.  I have found out that the code is because the battery in the computer module is dead and needs to be replaced.  Has anyone run across this and is it a job that I can do myself? Living in the DFW area there are a couple of shops that work on these modules and if I need to take it in where and which board would it be? Thanks for the help looking forward to getting one of the last little things done.......
