Gen 2 Volvo fog light

Hi Everyone,

I want to add the stock fog lights to a Gen2 Volvo. There is no fog lights in the truck right now. I opened up the hood and thought the cover that fills in where the fog lights go would be easy to remove. I was wrong. Do I need to remove the whole front bumper ? Or do you remove the sides of the bumper ? Looking for the bumper bolts, where do they hidden them ? How are the lights held in place ? Right now I have no pictures on factory fog lights in the truck to go by. Has anyone worked on their fog lights ? What do I need to know about this job ?

Thanks for any help,

Al

Al,

I added the lights to mine. If you have the standard 3-piece bumper, the end sections can be pulled off. I'm sure it wasn't the cleanest way to do it, but I just cut in a the grove on the bumper without the fog light openings. The flange on the fog lights covered my messy cutting work, and everything else was already there (3-pin Metri-Pack plug on each side to feed the lights).

If you need the light housings, the best deal I've found is from Advantage Truck Parts in Charlotte, NC. About $75 each, plus shipping, for Depo brand housings.

Then there's a fog light and headlight upgrade you might thing about. ;-)

Hi David,

Thank you for the info. Several months ago I found a good deal on E-bay. The lights where complete including the light bulbs. The only thing that I need now is the wiring harness to hook up the lights. After some research, I found a video on You Tube showing how to remove the outer bumper sections. One more question. Did you bolt the fog light housings to the bumper sections ? I am still looking over the spreadsheet.

Bill B, Thank you.

Thank you everyone for the help,

Al

Hi Everyone,

The tips that I got from the You Tube video was a big help. There is a total of six bolts per side. Four of the nuts need to be completely removed. The other two nuts did to be loosed to the end of the bolt threads. I will see if I can post the video that I found. Now I need to cut the pocket for the light housings.

Thanks David for the bolt size,

Al

In a related topic...I plan to replace my main light housings and use the HID lighting system. For the fog light housing I can either polish out the stock housings (that only has fog lights) or buy new housings that also have driving lights. Are the driving lights worth it?

Stan, usually the housings with driving and fog lights are actually a little cheaper, since they're the most common. Then it's just a question of hooking them up--seems some trucks have the third wire present, others don't.

Hi David,

Is it best to go to the dealer to get the wire harness for the fog lights ? The truck does not have any wire harness for the fog lights. There is a plug with an empty plug, plugged into it down by the bumper bracket. I am assuming that is the plug for the fog lights.

Al,

The wiring harness with the bulb sockets will come with the lights. What you're looking for is a 3-pin plug on each side--check to make sure there are 3 wires going to it. If it would help, I can snap a picture during daylight tomorrow.
