jfaulkner
I want to swap my VIP722K for a Hopper 3. I understand the hardward requirements. My concern is the cabling in my 2000 Traver Supreme Fiver. I know the cabling is RG6. But, I am pretty sure it is not rated at 3 GHz. So, how critical is the cabling. What happens to the signal if the RG6 is not rated at 3 GHz? Is the signal broken up, does it not appear at all, is it intermittent or is it an unknown? Zulu
Well, if you still have factory-original cable, it's about 17 years old and could be questionable. The only way is to try it. However, that older cabling should work to network a Joey 2.0 to a Hopper 3. 3 GHz isn't required for all Hopper wiring, and for short runs (like rooftop Travler to Hopper) your RG6 may be hunky dory. WeBeFulltimers
I switched from a VIP722 to a Hopper3 without changing ANY cabling and everything works fine. Picture is perfect. 2012 Montana fiver with original internal cabling (RG6) as it came from the factory.
