Kirk W
We spent the summer of 2006 at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, just 3 miles from Calais, ME. We had a really great experience there and made a lot of good friends as well as making numerous short trips around Maine and the Maritime Provinces of Canada while there. Not sure what else you would like to know? Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Mariner
I guess you'd have to decide where in Me. you'd like to be. If you can get centrally located near the coast then it's easy to daytrip North, South, and West. We've never volunteered, but have spent quite a few summers there. One place we keep going back to is Bucksport. It's quiet, out of the way, close grocery shopping, and easy drives to Bar Harbor, Bangor, Belfast, and points south, and you can hit just about any dock and pick up lobsters right from the boats. Anywhere from Portland on south gets pretty crazy in the summer. But it's a beautiful place to spend a summer.
