Charles Skinner
When we travel, we stop often to rest. (old folks) When we stop, I usually feel around the hub area to see if any extra heat is there. If I was about to have bearing problems, do you think I would be able to feel heat coming from inside? Ed ke6bnl
I think if there were a problem you could feel it, I have the TST tire monitors and they tell air temp. which is a good indication of a problem. OR you can probably do better with a inexpensive laser temp gun. 2000 National RV Sea Breeze 5th wheel 30ft. kathydavidb
X2 on getting a temp. gun. Just point it at each wheel and get your temps. If one is hotter than the others it may indicate a problem. Ed ke6bnl
I just got back from a long trip and monitored the tire with the TST monitor and most of the trip was cool but on the way back in Needles the temps were about 100 degrees and I stop to take some pictures and found two of the tires very hot. The tires facing the sunny side and all in general increased in temp quite a bit and when I got rolling the all better leveled out the sunny side is always a bit hotter but not the extreme I go while sitting on the hot pavement. 2000 National RV Sea Breeze 5th wheel 30ft. Devilishjim
In hot weather we try to get our driving in during the cool of the mornings, slower speeds helps tire temps and frequent rest stops for tires to cool down and are usually stopped by 2 in the afternoon. rdickinson
My rig has hub covers so heat isn't as evident from the outside so I have a Ratheon IR heat gun. To get temps on the right side, I go to the left side and shoot the back of the drums from underneath the trailer. You can see the red dot of the laser readily as it is in the shade. I find temps in the 100 degrees f. What I'm looking for is a spike in the temp in 1 or more wheels. If you are interested, I can provide the model of IR gun. skp51443
I picked up an inexpensive IR gun from Amazon, it seems to do a good job of checking temps. The laser dot also works well to exercise the neighbor's cat. First rule of computer consulting: Sell a customer a Linux computer and you'll eat for a day.
