  2. You will travel through the area of the biggest wildfire in TX history(March 2024) when you pass through Canadian, TX. A lot of what you could see will depend on how hard line you are about staying on US83. Liberal KS has the official home of Dorthey from Wizard of Oz. If you enjoy visiting small town America you will pass through some interesting ones. Probably the area with most to offer along that route would be North Platte, NE, which will also be the largest city on the route. I have been in most of the towns along that road and some of them many times but very few of them were ever my destination on a trip.
  3. If you go with a brass one, they won't have much, if any lead at all. I went with one of them a lot of years ago, as I have with pretty much all of my water fittings for either potable water or out in the garden. Like Chalkie, I really didn't do that so much for lead as to stop buying replacements, over and over. I actually have a spare one that I found left behind by a previous occupant of an RV site. I also use a brass elbow where the water hose connects to the side of the RV. Camco has one and I'd expect to find it in many RV supply stores. Amazon has several of them.
  4. It is going to be interesting to observe the eclipse and also the after effects. We are thinking that perhaps we too should stock up on a few things. We live in a gated community so shouldn't have any traffic problems and each of the areas of the community are doing something for the big event. There are places that we can see part of I30 and it has traffic problems in this area already due to the construction on I635 and the interchange so it wouldn't take much to make that worse.
  5. From what I've heard, the concern is the traffic situation in the event of a major emergency event. Lou showed me some pictures of traffic in rural WY after the one that are bumper to bumper traffic leaving out where there is little activity. In areas that have traffic problems every rush hour it has the potential to for disaster should some unrelated major event take place. I know that some law enforcement agencies are concerned about the possibility of a terrorist action. I spoke with an ambulance team and they were stationing units all around the Dallas County area, just in case. The latest weather prediction for Monday here is partly cloudy & sunny.
  6. If you don't mind, would you share the names of BOF's no longer active? If a group falls apart and nobody bothers to let the SKP office know, how are they to know? The SKP's take no roll in any of the groups beyond listing them and responding when asked. Escapees depend on volunteers and members for much of what happens and usually only get directly involved if there is a financial need to do so.
  7. Never been to that one but we did stay in Clinton State park several years ago.
  8. If it were me, I'd take I-10 through El Paso and then to 190 to 377 to 84 into Waco. It has been several years but when we last traveled that way it was our route. There are several very nice side trips available along any of those routes if you are not in any hurry.
  9. Start by signing into the Escapee Members Website and if you put your mouse on the Community tab it will open a long list of subjects and on that list is BOF's and if you click on it you will then get an alphabetical list of the current active groups. The group, "Line Dancers Unite" in about the center of that page and it has an active link for more information. I just looked at it and unfortunately, the link takes you to an RV Village site that no longer exists. My best suggestion would be to contact the business office to see if they will put you in touch with the BOF coordinator or someone from the BOF. 10. It doesn't as they wish to put the RV into the storage yard and your quote is for people in the RV. And since they were desiring to leave on March 31, I'd guess than they are gone now.
  11. Were you trying to point to the Microchip Pet Feeder Connect? Your link sort of works but this one is better.
  12. I wonder if the issue might be that you would be putting the RV into storage a day before your paid storage actually begins? How about if the storage period were to be March 31 through September 30? Just a thought.
  13. One of the moderators moved it to the proper location.
  14. Yosemite National Park is a place that you could spend a lot of time in, especially if you like to hike. But you will need to have reservations to stay there so get them soon. It is 300 miles from Anaheim to Yosemite via the most direct route. If you then leave the park and travel west to the coast and follow it south back to Anaheim that will be about 600 miles return trip. It will not be possible to do what you have in mind in 6 days if you only travel 150 -180 miles per day. Google Map of the proposed route
  15. Legally there probably is no reason that you couldn't sign early but you will still need to work with the person in the office. Keep in mind that a friendly approach asking for some help is much more likely to be successful.
  16. I never owned a Heartland RV but have several friends who have and all were satisfied. Heartland RVs is an American manufacturer of recreational vehicles located in Elkhart, Indiana. Founded by former Damon Corp. CEO Brian Brady in 2003, it was purchased and became a subsidiary of Thor Industries in 2010. I also found this set of specs for your model and the following picture.
  17. An absorption refrigerator will not work without proper ventilation and it can be dangerous to try. If you were to get one of the new, 12V compressor refrigerators it would work without the extra ventilation. If you do decide to cut a new vent, be very sure what is in the wall where you plan to cut as you might affect the structural integrity of the RV.
  18. Florida Driver's License Renewal Online License Renewal Requirements Online renewal is the most convenient way to renew your driver's license. However, there are some restrictions. You cannot renew your Florida driver's license online if: You last renewed your license online, by mail or over the phone You are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident You are renewing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  19. When do you plan to start your trip and how long will you be spending on the total trip?
  20. While I've not done that, it shouldn't be very difficult to do. If you look under the RV there should be an iron pipe that carries the propan from the location of the propane bottles and regulator back to very near the current propane appliances. I would tee into that with more iron pipe to get next to the location of the new refrigerator. I'd just supply it with propane in the same way as the trailer manufacturer did with what is there now. You do need to use propane rated pipe dope and such.
  21. If you have not traveled by RV in the US before I think that you will find most RV travelers to be easy to meet and make friends with. We can also help you with planning a route if you think that would be helpful. There are a lot of folks from Ontario that winter in the US south so you should be able to locate some, even if not through this site. If there is a local RV club, try contacting them.
  22. If you look at the map online, you can see where each of the campgrounds are. There are now new directors in charge so some things may be different but most of the events and activities will be in the buildings numbered 2, 3, & 4 on that map. As you can easily see, the closest campground for full hookups is Pilot Butte with White Mountain next. Boar's Tusk is about a mile from the activity area and we didn't use it at all the first time so I don't know what the transportation situation will be but for me that would be a choice of last resort. We will not. We missed last year for the first time in 10 years. I was part of security for 7 years and team leader for 5 but age and health issues for Pam have brought all of that to an end. I sold our travel trailer last July as it had been 1 year since it was used. I sold my truck this past fall so we have no means to take part now. I have a difficult time accepting it but we are now past 80 and slowing down. I would probably still be doing it but Pam is not able. We lived in Cheyenne, WY for 18 years and have been to that area many times. EDIT: I might add that there was dry camping for those who wanted that in several areas close in as well. The triangular area just to the east of Pilot Point campground, and the small parking next to the dog park & across from Pilot point were both dry camping areas as was the green area to the east of the horse stalls. Not being on staff anymore, I do not know if the new directors will do that again.
  23. I think that you would be better off in the park that you don't have to leave, but make sure that is true as it may be the reason for requiring a tow vehicle. If all that they require is having a tow vehicle but you don't ever have to move, you could alway just find the cheapest half ton pickup and park it, then keep your Jeep to drive. The second park is going to get to be a real headache to move out and in twice a year and that will also get expensive.
  24. I am taking this to a PM since it is just conversation.
