  1. I am using the Calyx Institute plan on the M2000.  I had the plan on the Linkzone 2 for one year and decided to upgrade last month.  It is working great where we are for the winter.  I will know later in spring if it works better than the Linkzone 2 while we travel, but I suspect it will.

Edit: I have done some speed tests over the last few weeks here in Mesa AZ.  The fastest was 162Mpbs and the one I just did was more typical at 92Mpbs down and 27Mpbs up.  The Linkzone 2 plan was 15 to 20Mbps here.

  2. In case you don't know, https://www.rvmobileinternet.com (Mobile Internet Resource Center by Technomadia) is the authority on mobile internet (wifi/cellular).  They have great guides on about every subject.  Start with https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/guides/mobile-internet-needs/ to determine your unique internet needs.

That Pepwave model sounds like overkill for your current plans.

North Dakota (Number 2 of the worst drivers) has a lot of speeding tickets because A; There aren’t that many residents, so they tend to speed more because there aren’t as many people to worry about. B; The western half of the state (where most of the tickets probably come from) is mainly oilfield, and oilfield workers tend to speed a lot more than other people. C; The cost of a speeding ticket is insanely cheap. The base cost for a ticket is $10 for 1-10 mph over the limit, and $1 for every mph after 10. So you go 20 mph over the limit and it’ll cost you only $20.

So a speeding ticket is just a surcharge to drive fast in North Dakota.

Yeah.. I know.  We're getting some really strong gusts today. Kicking up dust like crazy.  Usually it's just steady and annoying but today it's fierce.   Everything's going to be filthy.

Maybe next year I'll forget this RV thing and fly to Hawaii.

We spent two weeks in Hawaii this fall in rental condos.  Very nice, but everything is more expensive than on the mainland.  If you can handle the budget,  it is a great idea.

Another choice is Mexico and you can drive and camp there.  That seems scary to many.

  5. It sounds like we will know in late February if those using a Mobley are affected.  I moved our Mobley SIM to a Unite Explore mobile hotspot years ago, so hopefully we are OK.  If not, I will buy a newer hotspot and move the SIM again.

All I know is the Mobley uses the Qualcomm MDM9215 chipset.  I can't find information on if this chipset is affected by the 3G shutdown.

  6. Zulu: We had a 2002 Dolphin on the W22 Workhorse chassis and spent about $4K on suspension upgrades and it then drove quite well.  Not as well as our 2004 Newmar Dutch Star on a Spartan chassis, but the Newmar cost a lot more.  In other words, the Workhorse ride can be fixed with upgrades.

2FA is good but if you live in an area where you have to drive a couple miles to get a cell signal just to get your code then rush back and hope you can enter it before it times out....it can be a pain.

These companies need to have some flexibility.  Some do, others don't care.  One will call our landline with the robo-code.

We put our cell phones on Wi-Fi and can get calls and texts that way.

X2 on the hybrid.  We currently have a 2020 ford escape hybrid titanium awd and can be towed 4 down.

It's our 3rd escape hybrid, they hold their values very well.

The latest technology is amazing . Adaptive cruise control driver assist and safety systems.  Latest sync and navigation with a B&O sound system.

    We like 👍

Same here, we really love our 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Titanium AWD.   As long as there are hills and mountains, we get better overall mpg on highways than city, up to about 44mpg.  City driving the tank mpgs are more like 34 (lots of short trips) to 40mpg.

My post was relative to Bill Joyce's comment not Glenn's.  As a senior, Glenn is very lucky that he uses to no prescription drugs.  That's definitely not true of most Medicare recipients.

I agree to check the plans to see which is cheaper for you.  I do take prescriptions, but they end up with a zero copay via my Part D plan, so my out of pocket is the Part D premium.  I do feel lucky

I’m thankful for all the information I can get. We are still waiting for our trailer to be built. My spouse has an online business and would like reliable internet when we travel. Thank you for your advice.

Now you are asking the general question about mobile internet instead of asking about one service. Now we can help you.

The best source on this information is Mobile Internet Resource Center, run by Techmomadia hear is their getting started guide - https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/getting-started/ .

I have read on here some are putting the visible sim card in the jetpack.

That might work, but you can't spoof a Jetpack into looking like a phone and might get detected and shut down.  The smart ones are using something like a MoFi4500 ($300) and making configuration changes so it looks like a phone to the network.

  12. https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/verizon-launches-new-data-only-plans-up-to-150gb-for-80-month/ for some analysis.

For someone who needs lots of high speed data, this is great, as long as they are ready to pay.  If you already have Verizon unlimited cell phones, you can get 150GB of data only for $80, then add T-Mobile's 100GB/$50 and AT&T's (or Crickets) 100GB/$55 and you have 350GB per month for less than $200.  I know this sounds a lot compared to paying $25 on a Party plan for Visible, but there are many who need more than Visible supplies.

I know its  rare but it only takes once.  Looks like an easy head entry for the head of a TATANKA or Elk or even a mad squirel.  Not that it would be common. Actually my first thought was rain, sleet, and hail. Still looks fun.

Side note.  I think I have read somewhere that there are some parks that won't allow anything but a hard sided camper.  Not even pop-up tent campers.  Anyone know this for sure.

I have seen this at the campgrounds in the Canadian Rockies, they have separate campgrounds with electric fences for tents and soft-sided trailers.
