  1. When I look at the pictures of some of these shops, all I can say is WOW.  My humble shop is 48 X 60 with 16 foot eves and 14 foot RV doors. (3)  It does have the Heated Floor which I and several friends installed prior to the concrete being poured.  I pretty much do whatever I want to in it.  Not really a Mechanic or a Welder, but I do dable in both.  Seriously enjoy Wood Working and would much rather build a table that buy one.  Even though I usually end up with more in it than if I bought it.  One of the things my shop gets used for several times a year is gatherings of friends and neighbors.  We throw a few pieces of plywood on saw horses and have a good old fashioned get together.  Sorry but all my pictures are way to big to post.

  2. I operate a High Pressure Water Blaster that is mounted on a Cab over Pete.  I would not want to drive that truck for any long distance.  Cramped seating and with the engine right there, once it warms up the cab is a hot box.  A/C either freezes you out, or is not enough to keep you comfortable.  At the end of a shift I usually have a couple of leg cramps to contend with, even though we take a break every couple of hours.  Not a real comfortable setup.

  3. Dave,

Glad you posted what you did.  While I do agree with other posters that this is real so was the Swine Flu and the Bird Flu, and several other bad strains of Flu.  People died from them also, it's a fact of life that when these bad strains show up, people are going to die.  That said, I agree that we are constantly being lied to by ALL of the politicians and almost ALL of the news media.  Case in point, 3 different news programs reported 3 different numbers of cases of this flu in a Whidbey Island, WA Nursing Home.  In actuality NONE of them were right, THEY HAD ALL OVERSTATED THE NUMBER BY ROUGHLY 20%.  I know this for a fact as a good friend works there.  In my opinion, and those of a lot of folks I know, we the people need to wake the heck up and hold both the news media and our elected officials accountable.

I'll stop there as I do not want to get banned from this sight.  Just my .02

  4. Interesting subject and answers.  We have been enjoying the piece and quiet of the Oregon Coast.  Our annual trip to the Depoe Bay area.  We were already here when the governors started shutting everything down, so have really had to curtail our usual activities.  Still it's nice sitting here watching the waves and the idiot kayakers out on the ocean.  Heading home soon, so will just have to see what transpires once we're there.  It's not like I don't have enough projects in my shop to keep me occupied for many weeks without personal interaction with anyone.

  5. Ok, for the record.  I worked for the local school district for 13 years.  During that time I met, and still know, a number of very good and dedicated teachers.  However somewhere in the neighborhood of 75% of the teachers were just there for a pay check, and made no bones about telling you that.  Also during that time, the amount of money the State payed the district per student DOUBLED, but the amount the teachers had to spend in their classroom for supplies WENT DOWN.  However also during that time the amount of ADMINISTRATORS, ie higher paid folk, doubled.  And of course each and every one of those folks had to have their own personal secretary.  Here locally the amount spent on Administration is way out of line, but nobody seems to want to try and rein it in.  Bottom line, the kids get short changed.

As for the taxes part, here locally we are paying for several levies to the schools and will most likely be having another levy pass this year.  We taxpayers in this area do support our schools, but our schools are seriously letting us down.  Again, just my .02

  6. Having been through the process and having the Dr that examined my current hearing state that I was practically deaf, didn't mean a thing to the VA.  Their stance was that I lost less than 25% of my hearing during my time on active duty, so no benefit for hearing loss.  As an aside, I do not know any Veteran that is getting anything, other than hearing aids, for their hearing loss.  I do get my hearing aids from the VA though and they are good ones.

Tinnitus however seems to be a slam dunk 10%.

Joe keeps reminding me to get with it tho'.  We're looking forward to Christmas and we'll be spending it with the Kids in Washington.  You all know my email (I think) so if you're in the area send me a text ...

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

HAHAHAHAHA, and I will keep it up.  Sharon and I will be in Seaside, OR for New Years, maybe we can set up a meeting somewhere?

Hey Linda,  just not a lot to say but I do at least read the board a few times a week.  Was actually in Yuma not to long ago and met up with Steve, Carol, and Jerry.  Janice was under the weather that day.  😞

    Howdy Joe,

Again my lack of memory fails me, have we met?

I did post a PM to Hoss, as he has a large shop where there would be a dry place to do this job, I have not heard back from Hoss, I do know he is working many hours and has very little time for things like this.  Mark, is the only person I have kept in contact with my travels have kept up away from most of my gatherings the last 10 years or so.

    Dave

    Hey Dave,

Not a problem with your memory, we have met but it was back at one of the parties at the hossienda when you were using your monster jeep to pull people out of the mud pit.

Another place you might check out for help with your decals is Image 360 in Burlington.

What will happen when the "Green Groups" figure out that millions of new electric cars contain batteries, and more than 1 per car,  with lots and lots of foul chemicals that will have to be recycled/disposed of in some manner.  And let's not forget as lead acid batteries charge they produce hydrogen gas which is explosive in the right concentrations.

There is no free ride or quick easy answer.  One problem being solved creates others.

And the electricity to charge them has to come from somewhere.  Most likely from a Coal Fired Power Plant.  Bottom line is there ain't no free ride.

    Howdy Roger,

I am still waiting for Donna to get here the 2 hour ride home is a real bitch but there is nothing I do but grit my teeth and geterdone.  I sure am looking forward to the adjustable bed, getting on and off the toilet is NOT my favorite thing to do.

    Dave

    Hey Dave,

Hope your feeling a little better today, actually hope both you Old Timers are doing better.  Where did you have your surgery?  2 hours to home sure doesn't sound like a fun thing to do the day after getting cut on.

  11. Yesterday was fun.  When Jeri says we talked for hours, she means it.  When we got there the restaurant was have a Lunch Special, they were changing over to their Dinner Special when we left.🍸  And we talked about EVERYBODY.  LOL

Weather was great and the ferry ride both ways was good.  All in all a great day spent with friends.

  12. Dave,

There is a shop in Burlington called "Image 360" you could talk to about installing the flames for you.  I've talked to them about work before and liked the fact that they were up front with me about things.  I didn't use them but then my job was for removal of the clear "Invisible Bra" on the front of my Motor Home.

  13. It has been good seeing how folks are doing.  I'm still up here in the PNW getting ready for another round of summer work.  Been doing some traveling, but mainly up here in Oregon and Washington.. I do plan to be in Yuma for a bit this winter, but most likely only a month or so in the November/December time frame.  Have some much needed Dental work to get done.  So for the time being, it's just playing in the shop and enjoying our beautiful weather.

  14. Hi Dave,

All I can say is WOW.  I've known for years that the SLUMattle VA was a seriously messed up place.  Many of my retired friends actually refuse to go there.  I have had good luck with the Choice Program out of Mt Vernon, but then that has only been for one procedure.  Being Medically Retired from Silly Service, I have kept my insurance through them and the more I hear about your problems the happier I am that I did.

As for other places, a good friend lives in Harlingen, TX and has had nothing but stellar service from the VA there.  They even sent him to Baylor, up in Houston, for his Proton Beam treatment for Prostate Cancer.

As a veteran, it really pi___s me off that we have to put up with stuff like happens in SLUMattle VA.

    Howdy All,

Today I had an appointment with my va primary care doctor, we talked about knee rebuilds, he agrees that I need to have it done.  Then we talked about my serious reluctance to have this work done at the seattle va hospital, I took my lap top with me and showed him the web site concerning the Conformis, method of doing this.  Before anything can be done I have to have an exam by the va to confirm that I need the work done, the next step is they schedule to do it.

Now to get this done at a non va facility at least one of two things have to happen, ONE, I have to life 40 miles away from the nearest va facility, or TWO, they can't do the job with 30 days of its being approved.

Here's the kicker, I live 51 miles from the va hospital in seattle, but I only live 37 miles from the va clinic in Mt. Vernon where I get my non hospital care.  The clinic does NOT do knee replacements but it is a va facility so that option is not open to me.

So my primary doctor put in a request for me to be seen by the knee specialist, we are hoping that there will be more then a 30 day time lag before they can see me, if there is and if the Conformis, folks are willing to deal with getting paid by the va there is a small possibility that I might be able to have them do the job.  I am now in the processes of trying to call the Conformis folks to see if they will even consider dealing with getting paid by the va if the va will approve them to do the job.  An outside vendor getting paid in a "timely manner" from the va is like successfully storing ice cubes in HELL.  Years ago the va approved chiropractic care for me at a local one mile away chiropractor, I was getting a treatment a month by Doc Don, 11 months after Doc Don, started to treat me he showed me a check that he had just received for the FIRST treatment he had given me.

I don't want to bore you folks, if your interested in how this saga plays out let me know and I'll continue with up dates as they happen otherwise now that I hopefully have the ball rolling I'll stop posting to this thread.  THANKS to everyone who has offered suggestions and advise on how to handle this situation.

    Dave

    Dave,

While you certainly have more experience with our Mt Vernon VA Clinic than I have, I was told that if the local Clinic does not do the procedure that I needed done then they could refer me to an outside DR just by using the Choice Program.  Choice also told me that since I live more than 40 miles from the SLUMattle Clinic that I can request to be referred out to any Dr through Choice for any service that I need.  This worked well for me with my Cataract Surgery.  I'm following your trials and tribulations here though as I may be needing something with a hip soon.
