  1. Welcome Texas you landed with a group of folks having many years of HDT experience.  Next week I head to the Hutch KS Rally maybe I can share some of the materials with you.  My truck was converted by myself over the past 4 years while I have enjoyed the work it is tough and mine is set up as a bumper pull Volvo 670 see link below in signature.  In the future we do want a 5er so will have to decide to cut down the frame rails or sell truck most likely already converted to singled.  Keep asking others questions and write down the pro's and con's of what you plan.  Texas has some good bed building shops as does KS.

  2. I missed one important item that Volvo did recently. Noteven I think my project list is about done.....  Will you please post a picture of the front hub caps.

    • Had Volvo do a smoke test, they sealed the turbo and replaced one of the hoses; beats doing it on the side of the road. (June 6th)
    • Today installed the new oil dip stick: 20 minutes easy expensive $187
    • Changed the right side fuel filter and the antifreeze filter
  3. I have been busy: (check out #6 if old and cracked you could have a bad day)

    1. Installed new muffler
    2. Installed storage locking box behind right fuel tank (44" x 22") aluminum. @Brad & Jacolyn
    3. Wired up LED lights to nice switch box for outside, storage lights and inside main storage
    4. Polished aluminum wheels (80%)
    5. New rear leveling valve
    6. New rear leveling valve arm (check yours old ones are plastic and crack) $45
    7. 6 new tires $$
    8. Ordered new oil dip stick; need to install $180
    9. Greased the truck every last one of them
    10. Fixed two RV sky lights (hail damage)
    11. New Seats (Seats.com)
    12. Air dryer replaced

Now we are ready for the Rally

  4. Had to read this one; only owned the 10 speed Eaton Fuller manual the truck was the perfect find in great shape and such low miles.  Other than being on I-70 on a Sunday night moving 5 miles an hour I enjoy the shifting.  Would have done the 13 speed if I could have, this one can not be converted.   Float On

  5. Getting things packed, registered some time ago Steve you do have my details?  Hope so Dennis Lynton

All good did reg on 6/3/21 order 1551 Looking forward to seeing everyone.

  6. My solar is on a board mounted to the back of cab with 2 braces.  Had a 75 watt panel not being used purchased a controller and it keeps batteries up each day.  Wire is up and leave let it work.

  7. Took truck into Volvo this week to have the ECU checked since it kept coming up on the dash saying it needed service; no issues found.  Was told these trucks often have this happen as a result of seeing a minor voltage issue.  Had the shop do a Turbo smoke test looking for leaks; found a few and they are now resealed and one charge hose replaced.  Truck performs petter.  Lastly had my air bag leveling switch inspected and ride height adjusted.  Parts replaced, level set and truck has not gone down (air bags) since last evening.  This ended up being a good trip to Volvo.  If you have not had a shop do the smoke test on your Turbo system I highly recommend it.

  8. My project list:

    1. Weld more steel on the bumper hitch for safety; pulled 25,000 boat last summer and it stressed it.

    2. Have Volvo update the ECM; truck recently went dead on road then restarted (display service ECM)

    3.  Install new exhaust muffler; might attempt to make it "weed burner"

    4.  Outside lower frame mounted 48" storage box

    5.  New tires 6 on drives

    Road trips....

  9. The filters are the same ones used on my China made heater that sells for $140, I love these heaters and use it in the basement of my RV when winter camping.  Has cut my propane cost in less than half.  Facebook has a group that shares information and good resource for fixes.

  10. Tell us what make and model your 2003 charger is; most likely you will be purchasing a smart charger.  New smart chargers can be left on 24x7 and will not over charge the batteries most are capable of lead acid, AGM and Lithium types.  If you upgrade to AGM budget for a new charger if you do not your old charger will kill the AGM in a few years.

  11. I am about to pull the trigger on new seats found Legacy Silver seats sat in them recently and they are way better than the stock ones.  Understand I need adapter plates ($80 each) to mount them and do air lines.  Are these pretty straight forward to install?  No shipping at my Denver Kenwood dealer.

Did you measure your height to be sure it's your truck and not the highway sensor?  I know, silly question, but it's the basics......

It only trips going East and 50% of time it does not trip. Have measured at 13' 4".

  13. I would like to change my rear end air bag height by 2 inches.  Can I do so safely and easily?  My A/C trips over height sensor at a tunnel I70 but only going east bound.  Will my drive line still be within spec?
