I think mine is very sick.  Shuts down radomly, for no reason. I have had it on a 2hour timer for months and it has worked well.

My queston is what options do I have as I don't think anyone can buy mobley unit as a replacement.

    Thanks for your help

    Jim

Least expensive option is probably the ZTE Velocity hotspot.  It can be found on eBay fairly reasonable.  Better option would be a Unite Explore hotspot, probably about $150 on eBay.  Best option is Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 hotspot, a little more cost.  Any one of those would be a vast improvement in performance over the Mobley.

You imply I've overshared I can correct that now.

Not at all.  Maybe I should have worded it differently.  Just that you've always been generous with information, even when it concerns your personal experiences.

I have noticed the pricing on their website and just curious if they discount them at all at a dealer.  Also wondering how long it takes to get one once you order.

With respect to your questions, I love the guide because I can control the order that the channels are listed in.  So the ones we usually watch I have moved to the top of the list.  In addition, you can turn off the ones you aren't interested in so they don't even clutter the rest of your guide.

As for the DVR, I think it's great.  Because it has infinite capacity there's no harm in recording everything you might possibly want to watch.  For all recorded shows you can skip through commercials so it's better to have programs recorded rather than having to select the show from the On Demand list whee you can't skip commercials.

If there's anything I don't like about the DVR it's that there's no setting for just recording "first run" programs.  I used to use that all the time so my DirecTV DVR didn't get cluttered up with stuff I had already seen.  In this case you don't have to worry about filling up the DVR, it's just that sometimes you have to start a show to see if you've already watched it.

    Thanks.

  4. First thing I noticed when I installed Win10 on my Win7 machine was how MS wanted me to get an MS identity and use the MS store and all.  I remember when MS used to be the trend setter, the innovator.  Now, they're trying to be an Apple clone, with "apps" instead of "programs" and everything on the cloud instead of on your machine?  I don't need my computer to look like my phone.

I have my laptop set up just like it was in Win7, didn't join the MS club, don't share any more than they make me.  I tried Edge, didn't find it any better than Firefox or Chrome.  Of course, I haven't used IE in 20 years or more either.

I'm paying sales tax for my new motorhome in Virginia.  Will  I have to pay sales tax again when I move to and register my MH in Texas, or only the registration fee?

As long as you have proof of previously paying sales tax, you will only have to pay the difference in Virginia's rate and Texas' rate, if Texas is higher.  Texas rate is 6 1/4%.

If your Virginia title lists your GVW, then you should not need a weight certificate to register in Texas.

  6. USPS tracking leaves a lot to be desired.  I made an Amazon order on a Friday night.  Saturday night, USPS tracking said it was in my local post office and would be delivered Sunday.  Sunday morning it showed as being in a post office 80 miles away.  Monday, it showed as being in Dallas, 250 miles away.  Tuesday, it was supposed to be in another post office 40 miles out.  Wednesday, it supposedly was in Houston, 100 miles from here.

Thursday, Amazon sent an email saying it was lost and they were sending another.  Saturday, they both arrived.

My opinion?  I think USPS service quality is very much location dependent.  My local post office sucks.  I get my mail between 630 pm and 730 pm, even though it will say "out for delivery" at 8 am.  When the substitute delivers, I usually get it before 2 pm.  The sub told me that the regular carrier picks up the mail early like the other carriers, but doesn't start delivering until after noon.  I've never lived anywhere that I had to take a flashlight out to the box to check the mail.  It's also the first time I ever had a carrier who had her children with her in the back seat while delivering.

Let’s say I am 65’ long with the fifth wheel. Then I have two self doing cars following. One Smart car to fit that gang. Then maybe a corvette for that gang of enthusiasts.

     Just thinking.

Maybe a self driving pickup pull a horse trailer with horse in it.

     Really bored ,   Vern

So, what happens when one of them doesn't show up at the destination?  Where do you go to look for it?  Who's going to fuel them up for you, or are they self-fueling also?

    You said your were bored.

  8. Minimalism only truly applies to music or politics.  If you want to extend it to lifestyle, then you could say that a minimalist is one who does away with everything in his life not necessary to live the way he wants to live.  So, if I need a big honking 40' motorhome to live the way I want to live and get rid of everything else, I'm a minimalist.

I suppose a true nature minimalist would hike into the mountains with a sleeping bag, some fish hooks and line, a knife, and a pack of matches.  Not many of those around, most people prefer toilet paper to pine straw.

I think this whole discussion was neatly summed up in the fourth post in this thread.  😀

  9. You guys ease up on the OP.  Obviously, he/she is seeking validation for his choice of activities.  That's pretty typical of someone just starting out in an endeavor.  Just ignore the condescending attitude as that is part of the validation process.

I'm sure there are many on this website who have hiked in and out of locations where the OP's trailer wouldn't even go.  Let's just try to be more supportive in our posts and hopefully he/she will stick with this new experience and eventually learn some humility along the way.  JMO

I guess that I fall into the "I don't care" crowd, in that I don't really consider what other people think about our lifestyle or how they might characterize it.  You seem to want to make certain that people understand that you are unique and different, and don't march to their beat. In my opinion everyone is unique and different in their own way.

Characterizing other people as "a crowded world of imitators believing a RV Park is the end of the trail" tells me far more about you then it does about them...

Yea, but we all agree, there is a problem. Solutions however, are elusive.

My comment wasn't intended to be critical, just pointing out that there is a wide range of opinions on the subject.  I guess I'll share mine.

Homelessness is nothing new to America.  I suppose each generation had their name for such people............bum, hobo, derelict, wino, tramp, drifter, etc.  I think there are a variety of reasons why they are more plentiful and more visible now.  We've also always had street hustlers, as long as there have been streets.

Perhaps, like someone else pointed out, there are locations which are more accommodating than others.  With our electronic age, word spreads fast about these places, even homeless people have access to information.  The homeless are no different than most people in that they prefer to gather in a group, for societal and safety reasons.

As far as why there are such great numbers of homeless in such an affluent society, I suppose there are many reasons.  Some have already mentioned mental illness and substance abuse.  Maybe some of it is our own fault, as individuals.  Perhaps some of these people we see now on the street would have been more welcome at home in the past, the crazy uncle or wayward child or troubled sister.  But, we are generally a more selfish group than we used to be, even turning out our parents to institutions in their old age instead of taking them in like in the past.

As far as solutions, I don't have any.  I think some of what has been suggested here has merit, but is also an oversimplification.  Heck, even the social scientists can't agree on the best approach.  Tough love only goes so far, it's hard to criticize politicians who want to opt on the side of compassion, yet we can all find fault with how the problem is being handled in one place or another.

The good thing is that there seems to be a lot of public awareness now, as illustrated in this thread.  Eventually, the issue will be dealt with, hopefully in a humane way which benefits both society and the homeless individual.
