  1. The Rand McNally has been great for the last 4 years and has saved us from self induced road hazards when it warned us of low bridges and a particularly bad railroad crossing when we didn't have it set to navigate. BnB
  2. We rarely use KOA's because in our experience they aren't good value for money. BUT sometimes there is no alternative such as when we wanted to stay near friends and relatives in Maryland and stopped at the hideously expensive Millersville "National Capital" park. We bought a 1 year membership at check in because the discount more than paid for the membership. It was just "Location, location, location" for us as we used to live around the corner from there and still have lots of friends there. What surprised us was that after you spend so much with KOA they give you an annual membership FREE. That Millersville park was around $90 A NIGHT and we ended up with 2 year membership which coincidentally we will use this weekend for a discount at a park in TX when we visit friends who live very close to that park. So my advice is buy a membership at check in if it's going to pay for itself, but don't buy one is you aren't certain you will use it.
  3. I've contributed to the travel blog forum in the past but now it appears I have read only status, is there something I did wrong to prevent me posting there again??

    Thanks

  4. Are you fitting this to the RV water system or the house? If the RV what benefit do you expect from it? Thanks BnB
  5. The advantage of getting the SD domicile set up early is that you will have an address for your mail set up before you hit the road and can get that added to credit cards, bank accounts, business cards etc when you have lots of time and the facilities to do it. You don't have to change driver licenses, titles etc until you are ready to fo so. You can get some bills etc sent to the SD address ahead of time so you can show them as "Proof" of your address should anyone require it. We had it all set up 6 months before we left just so we were comfortable with it all, If you use the SKP mailing service for SD domecile you will end up with 2 addresses. One for SD and a mailing address in Livingston. Sounds complicated but after 2 years of using it we don't even notice it anymore. BnB
  6. There are more parks in that range. They are in high demand areas. One in Maine has "Silver" "Gold" and "Platinum" sites based on how close to Penobscot Bay you are and if they have a little deck to sit on. The sites are tiny but very picturesque. You don't get the same view from Walmart! If we stay 1 night at a high dollar place we spend 3 nights at Walmart or an Elks Lodge to bring the AVERAGE cost of camping down to our budget. BnB
  7. I don't know how our slide system compares to yours, but we have a HWH single hydraulic slide in our 99 Rexhall. We had a similar problem a couple of months back and Nolan RV of Casa Grande AZ sent their mobile repair tech to look at it. He immediately diagnosed a solenoid valve on the way out. He explained that it is the IN valve that is bad if the slide drifts OUT. Kind of backwards but that's they way it works. The solenoid is a cylindrical device with an electrical socket and a "T" bar device on the out end, It screws into the block that controls the slides. He showed me how to release the hydraulic pressure using the T handle then unscrew the whole solenoid from the valve block. We were lucky as our system has only 2 solenoids. He replaced it in abut 15 minutes and charged only $45 for a call out charge, 1/2 an hours labor and the price of the solenoid. I though that was a bargain! We haven't had any further problems and he warned me that once one fails we should expect the other to go out in the not too distant future. Now I know how to do it myself, we bought a spare for when we need it. He also explained that some more modern rigs might have up to 9(!) solenoids. Hope this gives you something to help. BnB
