  1. My main concern with on-site service would be whether or not they could balance the tires at your site. Like Tim/Tahoe Shark, I can lift the whole rig with the hydraulics and remove the wheels (with good jack stands and blocking, of course). I have also pulled in the slides, hitched up, and pulled the rig to a tire shop before. We are never set up so permanently that it takes me more than 30 minutes to pull everything in and put it on the truck (leaving the sewer hose, etc., at the site for the time being).

USAA is no longer an Army association but a for profit business that is now owned by Charles Schaab.

Partially true, Kirk. USAA was never an "Army association." It was always in the private sector and not associated with the Federal government. Charles Schwab Corporation acquired USAA's investment and brokerage accounts in 2019, but the insurance business and Federal savings bank still operate independently.

Thanks Second Chance.  I did talk to my State Farm agent.  If no homeowners or renter policy, then no content insurance possible.  Dad was in Merchant Marines not US Navy, so that's a no go I think.  The USAA website says for military families.

How are you covering the contents of your RV, then?

Thanks I appreciate your reply.  My understanding is that USAA is for military families, so I'm not qualified.

If you had a parent who served, you qualify. My response, however, was not to push you toward USAA, but to explain how our insurance was structured. You might check with your current insurance carrier to see if 1) you might be covered already and 2) if you could add that coverage to your current policy.

  5. We have a renter's policy as part of our USAA insurance package for full-timing. It's primary purpose is to cover our personal effects that are in the RV during the time it's not moving (while under way, things are covered by our auto insurance). A side benefit is that the renter's policy also covers everything in our climate controlled storage unit back at the launch site. The storage facility just requires that I provide a copy of the policy renewal each year for their records. Now... why we still have stuff in a storage unit is a discussion for another time and place.😐

  6. Per Car & Driver: "A 181-hp, turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder is the base engine, but a 245-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder is also available. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the more powerful engine brings steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and upgraded cooling components."

Having a video of an accident that was recorded by your dash cam may be helpful with your insurance claim buy may not be admissible in a Court of Law It would be hard to prove the chain of custody after sharing it with law enforcement, insurance companies and all attorneys involved. Additionally many intersections, if that is where the accident occurred, have traffic cams already installed whose videos would be used in Court.

From a law firm that does accident cases: "As long as dash cam footage is relevant to the case, recordings are almost always admissible in court. ... While most dash cams only record visuals, a few record audio, which is typically not admissible in court, as it is difficult to obtain the advance consent of those the audio is recording."

So are you saying that this makes your opinion fact and everyone now needs to have one? My opinion is unchanged. If it makes you feel better and fits into your budget, that is justification enough for you to buy one. I don't feel it is important to me so that is my justification. We should each spend our money where we believe it gives us the most satisfaction for the cost. I probably have spent money on things that you wouldn't buy but that doesn't make either of us right or wrong.

    Kirk,

I have respected your views and input for a long time, but I think there is a little miscommunication or misunderstanding going on here... folks aren't talking about a $200 - $350 GoPro. They're talking about things like the Rexing dash cams that can be had for $50 - $100. I am aware of a number of cases where dashcam evidence has made the difference in a court case or insurance settlement. As I mentioned above, I REALLY which I had been running one when someone pulled a stunt, ran into me, then lied to the cops (after switching seats with his passenger because there was a problem with his drivers license). We drive a lot on I-95, the loops around DC and Baltimore, I-20 and I-30, DFW, El Paso, San Diego, etc. We operate dashcams in both the truck and the car at all times - and a good part of the population does nowadays. For many, it's not a matter of opinion, "feeling better" or "satisfaction" - it's like buying insurance... just the smart thing to do. Perhaps it doesn't fit your lifestyle or needs, but an adversarial interaction here does not benefit the OP.

...I have had cars cut in front of me from the left, slam on the brakes only to exit to the right so they wouldn't miss their exit...

I had the same thing happen to me - on a two-lane state road in east central Texas. A compact car full of young people passed me (I was doing to 55 MPH speed limit) across a double yellow line with oncoming traffic, pulled in too close, and slammed on the brakes to make a right-hand turn. The right front of my truck missed the left rear of their car by inches since I couldn't pull into the oncoming lane because of traffic. Had there been a collision, my dashcam would have been my only defense had they decided to lie to the sheriff and say that I was tailgating. I had a similar incident ten years before while not towing... the other driver did lie and we were both held at fault - I didn't have a dashcam then.

Even if it's not required it just might keep the guy with the weed whacker from nicking your hose.

X2 on this... or a rock poking through the bottom. I find that the holders also help the stinky slinky drain since most of them are slanted from the rig end to the sewer end.

and my thing is not in taking the vaccine. but cause it has never been tested. let alone proven to “cure you”. what are the long term side effects?

Others have already responded to your points - which are wrong... but in addition, vaccines aren't, and never have been, a "cure." The purpose of a vaccine is to condition your immune system so that it is capable of mounting a response to an invading virus. The vaccine would not increase your chances of dying - it would increase your chances of living.

  12. We don't have a Momentum, but we're in our second Grand Design fifth wheel. Our first 4-1/2 years full-time were in a Reflection 337RLS. It came off the line in 2015 a few months before auto-leveling became standard on the Reflections, but it served us very well. When we made the decision to stay on the road as long as possible, we upgraded to a Solitude 310GK-R (construction similar to a Momentum but without a garage) with solar, dual pane windows, residential fridge, slide toppers, and everything we thought we'd need as we get older (especially the auto-leveling and slide toppers!). We are extremely happy with it. We feel that the quality is acceptable - but  the thing that sets GD apart for us is the customer service. On the few occasions we've had (minor) warranty issues (all on the Reflection - none with the Solitude), GD authorized a mobile tech to come to us and paid for it. PM me with an email address if you have more questions.

It's not actually the oldest road in the US (Oldest Roads). The article says, "The Yellowstone Trail was  the first transcontinental automobile highway in the United States through the northern tier of states from Washington through Massachusetts."

    Interesting info, though.

    gypsydan,

We stayed at the Rock Springs CG for two nights, off season, about two years ago. We did park in the "corral like" parking area that was mentioned. It was an odd setup but we managed with a bit of a struggle. I would bring longer water hoses, electrical extensions and dump hoses in the event you were assigned a spot in that section. You will need them. As Kirk mentioned and as you see from the photos, the fairgrounds are HUGE  with multiple loops/campgrounds. I cannot comment on the boondocking area.

    Connie

We've stayed there and Connie said exactly what I would have said... so I'll just quote her. The "corral" setup is rather odd - I had to use extensions on all of the utilities (the hookups are on the other side of the fencing between the rows). Also can't speak to the boondocking area.

  15. We have always been queen bed people, anyway - even when we had a house. We don't have dogs that sleep with us and neither of us likes to have to search for the other in bed. When it's cold, we're both together in the middle, anyway. The bonus is that our bedroom seems much more spacious and we have more room to walk around the bed (our Solitude fifth wheel has the bed in a slide).

  16. We pulled the sleeper-sofa out of our brand new fifth wheel (to put in two Ekornes Stressless recliners). I sold it on Facebook Marketplace for $100 to a young family who was rehabing an older RV they had. They were tickled pink. If you don't get any offers after a few days, change it to free if they pick it up.
