  1. "I just don't care to "waste" that much fuel when I know I can have close to the same fun at a much better mpg."

I'd be surprised if you can find an HDT that gets "MUCH better mpg".

I think you'll be lucky to hit the VERY LOW double digits (10.0 ~ 10.4).

I do hope that you can prove me wrong.

  2. I expect that there are HDT cab customizers but, I'm not familiar with any. Any of the shops that customize RVs should be able to handle your job. There are LOTS of customizers in the Elkhart, IN area (the RV building capitol of the world) where there are many Amish craftsmen and shops who can custom fabricate just about any furniture / trim you'd like. Your imagination and wallet would be the only limiting factors.

  3. In NY, registration (license) plates must be clearly visible and, "shall NOT be covered by glass, plastic or ANY OTHER material". Technically, you can't even put a coat of wax on the plate (there are further requirements as to placement). These days, there are clear, spray on products that supposedly prevent a treated plate from being clearly photographed. I would expect TN and most other states to have similar laws on the books. If I were you, I'd locate the plate OUTSIDE of the box and, have a working light illuminating said plate when driving at night (I know; when hooked up, the trailer blocks the view of the plate. Laws often ignore logic and common sense). Find out exactly what TN laws cover number plates and, have a printed copy in the folder I'm sure you have.  The few extra dollars you spend could help you avoid trouble down the road.

  4. Lucy, you got some 'splaining to do...........

(Younger forum members will have NO clue where this quote came from.)

Obviously, they don't build 'em like they used to.

  5. I start at the pump if possible. Discover Card (my preferred card) customer service reps have told me that Discover Card does NOT put a limit on fuel purchases. IF the pump shuts off before my tanks are full, it's the station that has set a limit for at the pump purchases. In those cases, I usually switch to a Master Card or Visa (my tanks hold 100 gallons max). There have been times where I've found it necessary to go inside to get pumps started and again to finish the purchase. Store employees CAN allow "large quantities" to be pumped IF you go inside first. More trouble than I think there should be but, the only thing buyers can do is to buy elsewhere.

  6. Americans (and others around the world) owe a HUGE debt to those who served in all the branches of our Armed Services. Far too many people take for granted the freedoms and life here in the United States and WHY we're able to enjoy said freedoms. May God bless ALL who have served and will serve in the future and, comfort families and friends who made the ultimate sacrifice.

  7. There is NO "perfect" GPS system, ESPECIALLY for HDTs.

I've used Garmin dezl, Rand McNally, TomTom, Google and Apple maps and Copilot. My experience is that they ALL have shortcomings. I especially dislike the Rand McNally electronic products (but I expect you'll find other users who are happy with them).

Copilot HD Truck recently switched from a "one price with regular updates at no extra charge" to a subscription based product.  NO new updates are being issued for the "old" software. Other then Copilot "support" being a kludge (email ONLY), their navigation has, in my opinion, been very good. Copilot is available for iOS (iPhones & iPads) and, I believe Win OS. I don't believe Copilot has an Android version.

Of course, you should also have a "hard copy" solution at hand. Rand McNally's Motor Carrier's Atlas is hard to beat when you want / need to go "old school"

  8. Harbor Freight (and other auto supply stores) sell "automotive stethoscopes" and, they're not very expensive (MUCH less than a "Whisper" tool). Basically the ear pieces you'd see on a medical stethoscope with a rubber-like tube connected to a thin metal tube about 18" long.

  9. I believe I'm in the home stretch now. Unless there's a major SNAFU, I should close on the sale of my stick & brick on Thursday, May 31st, 2018 at which time I graduate from an Extended-Time RVer to a Full-Time RVer. Pray for me!  😃
