  1. "problem is I really don't know what I am doing."

You have LOTS of company with that Cory  ;)

You know your limits, get expert help when needed and, are very willing to learn. That's a GREAT combination.

Once your rig is the way you want it, it'll run for years with basic maintenance. After your "apprenticeship" there'll be a LOT more stuff you'll feel confident in handling yourself.  Slow and steady wins the race.

  2. Carl, I just did a simple search on the DuckDuckGo search engine. The guide opened right up and, each link I clicked was very responsive. If you're using Google as your search engine, I'd recommend you try using a different search engine.

PS: I'm on a relatively new ACER Chromebook but, I have changed the default search engine from Google to "DuckDuckGo" though.

  3. In 10+ years, I can remember only ONE parking lot that had a barrier set below 13'6" on the main entryways. There WAS a rear entry NOT so equipped so that the tractor trailers delivering store stock did have access.  In whatever parking lots I do stop in, I make sure that I park off to the rear and or edges of the lot so as to NOT impede "regular" customers. Doing it this way, I've never had a problem. Have you tried phoning ahead to request "clearance" to park your rig in their lot while you shop?

  4. Sounds like you're going out "on top" rather than being forced out. Once I fell it's safe enough to travel again, I just might take you up on your offer. I hope you're enjoying your retirement as much as I'm enjoying mine!

  5. Re the generator; I'd go with the diesel model for two reasons. 1: I would NOT have to deal with gasoline. 2: You're likely to need MORE power than you expect; 7500W hands down over 4000W (heck, I'd be looking for 8K ~ 10K myself).

Re the "linear actuator" for the queen bed: does that mean that  area is "dual purpose"? If so then pretty much every day you'll have to switch between dining and sleeping use which can be a pain.

  6. Since EACH state handles RVs / motorhomes differently, registering one can be a real flustercluck. Add that MANY DMV employees have NOT been well trained and things can go downhill even faster. If Dalton or Dade DMV  offices in Georgia are far away, you might try phoning one (or both) for advice on how best to proceed. Usually, when an owner has all his ducks in a row, they (or their supervisor) will double check and be surprised to learn that you're right. I forget which forum member here is from Long Island, NY but, he apparently got to be such a regular visitor to DMV that he started bringing them boxes of donuts. I forget his details but, he didn't have to register his HDT as a commercial vehicle.

PS: MOST LEOs are also cluless re BIG RVs and motorhomes. Your more likely to get GOOD answers from a LEO who is part of the Highway Patrol or Scales Unit. They deal with BIG vehicles every day they work.

  7. Did the previous owner have it registered as a motohome / private truck IN Georgia?

LOTS of DMV employees are clueless re "unusual" circumstances and, you just about have to take them by the hand and walk them through the necessary steps. It might help to contact the State DMV office where you'll hopefully find a more knowledgeable employee. It will be VERY important that YOU know the registration laws in Georgia (thank God for the internet). In NY, in addition to the DMV "Rules & Regulations" (which was very easy to obtain), there were "Commissioner's Rules & Regulations" which was virtually impossible to obtain (I was told by a NYS Trooper that THOSE "R&Rs" were always changing / being amended but, that was ~ 40 years ago. Lord only knows what the situation is there now). Be patient and GOOD LUCK!

  8. Over the years I made several purchases from newegg that I was satisfied with. A few weeks ago, I ordered a 3 pack of what looked like quality USB-A to USB-C cable for about $24 delivered. The newegg webpage stated it would be "fulfilled by newegg". I was sent really cheap cables with an included invoice of $5.99 but was still charged the original price of almost $24. I returned the crap cables but instead of an apology, I was "scolded" in poor "Chinglish" for complaining about the "bait & switch" they pulled. I doubt I'll risk my money with newegg again.

  9. DEF "shelf life" is two years (possibly longer). RVTravel.com was following this problem and, in the last month or so, a software work-a-round was created. If I remember correctly, said work-a-round does NOT solve the problem. It supposedly STOPS the "De-Rate" from kicking in. You'll still get warning lights which can't be reset until the problem HAS been corrected.

  10. Welcome Mike! Have you attended an HDT Rally (are you even aware that there IS such a thing)?  The ECR (East Coast Rally) is been held in Crossville, TN sometime between mid-April ~ early May. The WCR (West Coast Rally is been held in Cauldwell, ID in early June. The National HDT Rally is held in Hutchinson, KS in mid ~ October. ALL feature VERY informative seminars about getting started in the HDT lifestyle as well as entertainment and fellowship and other RV related topics. At some rallies, owners looking to downsize (or leave RVing altogether) look to sell their rigs. If you could swing the time to attend an HDT Rally, you WILL be rewarded with a wealth of knowledge! Again, WELCOME!

  11. If Covid is no longer an issue, I would like to go to AK via RV. I don't know what the date for the ECR is but, perhaps those interested could use Crossville, TN as a "jumping off" point. The WCR has been in Cauldwell ID in early June. That could be the "jumping off" point as an alternative.

  12. Expect the folks at NYS DMV to be TOTALLY UNAWARE of what Jaydvr has reported. Also, should you ever be stopped by LEOs, expect them to be similarly unaware. I'd find out EXACTY WHAT sections of VTL (or the even more arcane" Commissioner's Rules and Regulations") apply here and, have copies of all the applicable sections printed out, organized in a folder, ready to present to DMV and LEOs as necessary. A "Standard" NYS "D" Class license that has an "R" endorsement will cover non commercial vehicle weight over 26,000#. You're also likely to need an endorsement for Air Brakes. Once you add on "pulling a trailer" it gets just a little more complicated. Most bureaucrats NOT do well handling "complicated". Remain patient and present the DETAILED paperwork. Once a local employee is presented with paperwork "above their pay grade" they'll call a supervisor (or the "mothership" in Albany). If I remember correctly, Jaydrv brought donuts which might have made DMV staff more willing to do the legwork that was necessary. GOOD LUCK!

PS: I found it easier to just leave NYS.
