  1. I'm not seeing a link to a YouTube video.
  2. I don't have an answer re weight but, rather than shoveling, have you considered a cordless leaf blower?
  3. Many state & national parks were built decades ago when "big" RVs didn't exist. VERY few have been updated to accommodate new, longer RVs. It's not unusual for there to be private campgrounds / RV parks fairly close to state & national parks where they can often handle today's longer rigs. As spindrift recommends, start with the HDT Resource Guide. There are also lots of apps that offer a wealth of information (one of my favorites is AllStays Camp & RV)
  4. I'm not familiar with the area in regards to safety but, is it not possible to park the Jeep in the passenger parking area for several hours?
  5. Carl, most routers have a tiny reset button, often on the back of the unit. While it has power, press and hold said reset button in for about 30 seconds. A "tool" like a paper clip is often small enough to press said reset button in. Once reset, it should show up on a computer as a basic / generic router in which you can enter the ID and password you choose. From what I see in the picture, you may have to remove the weather proof cover to gain access to the reset button. Here are some links to WiFi Ranger set up and Control Panel: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=wifiranger+control+panel&t=chromentp&ia=web
  6. Sad news. Condolences to his wife and family.

    Senior Moment

As long as nobody was injured, it wasn't that bad of a day (no, bruised egos don't count).
  8. THIS How is your Volvo 780 registered? If it's registered as an RV, Truck Home or something OTHER than a commercial vehicle, I would doubt that a CDL would be REQUIRED. There are drawbacks to having a CDL. BEFORE you get a CDL (and especially a "CDL-A") be sure you FULLY understand what you're signing up for. When I lived in NY anyone could buy a printed copy of the NYS Vehicle & Traffic Laws at any DMV office for $1.00 + sales tax!. My agency got copies of "last year's" book which they handed out to LEOs (for $1.07, I'd buy my own NEW copy when they were available). Maybe your state has a similar deal?
  9. Has the ECR "officially" died?
  10. Re that photo; I sure do hope the owner / user did some MAJOR upgrading of the frame / suspension & body (which I somehow doubt happened). I see that there IS a ladder on the back but, trailer builders sometimes (often) do the BARE MINIMUM when it comes to such installations. I don't know if it would help but, back in the 1970s, GM specially modified Chevy Vegas (I believe that was the model) so that 30 Vegas could be loaded vertically on a special rail car (Vert-a-pac). That unique situation allowed GM to get Vegas to the west coast at a particular price point. I don't believe that was ever replicated to ship other vehicles. https://www.motortrend.com/features/chevrolet-vega-vert-a-pac/
  11. Are you sure that you don't have the first electric HDT in the group? Glad you're OK!

    Onan Fuel Pump

Since it did fire up with a spritz of ether, did you think to try running some Seafoam through the carb? I've seen Seafoam do wonders.
  13. Congratulations on a successful long haul maiden voyage! Sounds like you've been an EXCELLENT HDT RV Ambassador.
  14. Wow! There are some sections of road that could easily be undermined by flooding.

    DOT inspection

As long as there is NO "commercial use" you shouldn't need a DOT inspection. Be careful though. It IS possible to "cross the line" and use your rig for something considered "commercial".
  16. WOW! reading over the list provided in your link was interesting. FL, NE & VA in particular look like they're out to get motorists. Carl, In my travels over the last several years, I've noticed more & more Weigh Stations placarded with a vehicle's WEIGHT RATING instead of the words COMMERCIAL VEHICLE (borne out by the link provided). I clearly remember seeing a weight rating of 10,000 pounds at least once. I have a vague memory of seeing a weight rating of 8,000 pounds. I do not recall where either sign was located. As overloaded trucks do pose a safety hazard, I agree that they need to be regulated and checked to ensure compliance. HOWEVER, in today's world, I fear the many states / municipalities are concerned with increasing revenues MORE than their concern for safety. Roughly twenty years ago Federal regulations were "unified" to try establishing a national standard for trucks, ESPECIALLY HDTs that were used COMMERCIALLY. The "magic number" wound up being 28,000 pounds. At 28,000 pounds GVWR OR LESS, many (most?) states allowed drivers of NON COMMERCIAL vehicles to operate with a "standard" drivers licence (28,000# covers a LOT of RVs). Prior to that, many states had lower vehicle weight ratings for holders of a "standard" driver's license. Back then, NY had a limit of 18,000 pounds. At 18,001 a Class C Commercial driver's license was required. Jump forward to today. It is my understanding that RVs are still NOT welcome or expected to pull into a weigh station (although LEGALLY it MAY be required). I DO expect that to change. The question is WHEN? Perhaps the safest course of action would be to stop in at a state's "Welcome Center" which is often near the entry point along a major highway and ask. An alternative would be to call and ask directly if you ARE required to pull into that state's Weigh Stations AND that they WANT you to do so (get the name of the state employee you speak with). The Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas has phone numbers for every state (or you could just google it). For the IMMEDIATE future, I think RVers WON'T be chased down by police. I have heard of RVers who DO pull in only to be "waved through". That should cover you and avoid a summons for "non-compliance". DO keep your file of YOUR state's Rules & Regulations re RVs up to date and near at hand. If a LEO is looking to tag somebody and, you have all your ducks in a row, he may decide it will be easier to stop the next guy.
  17. It's a good thing you found out BEFORE you were almost there. Seniors ARE at higher risk, ESPECIALLY if they have "co-morbidities" (diabetes, asthma, obesity etc) which are SO common in todays world of "adulterated" foods. I believe that Big Pharma is working hand in hand with Big Agra to keep the population diseased (that were NOT common 50+ years ago). Prayers for you and your family.
  18. I won't be surprised if, after the next price hike or two, drivers who fill up will be given a free tube of KY Jelly so that getting shafted won't be quite as painful... 😫
  19. Just a guess here but I expect there would be a FERRULE (tapered copper ring) that slips over that blue (or is it green) tube and mates with a compression nut inside said fitting. If there was a ferrule and it got lost / misplaced / broken, you'll need to get a replacement ferrule. The other possibility I can think of is that said colored tube is metal and has been flared to form a compression fitting (when properly assembled and tightened). Before reassembly, make sure all "mating surfaces" are clean and dry.
  20. Once you get whatever vehicle you buy inside the trailer, there will be VERY little room to get up front for those tie downs. Maybe someone here has a technique to make accessing the tie downs easier?
  21. There you go being logical. Too many politicians, business executives etc are RAKING in the dough. Don't hold your breath on any SERIOUS price relief anytime soon.
  22. Spindrift raises a good point on the insulation, especially in the roof. Having more than one AC unit when you're based in Las Vegas is something else to consider. Ask if the AC units have SOFT START technology already installed; otherwise, installing Soft Start will set you back $200+ for each AC unit (but they ARE worth it in my opinion). I've NEVER heard of a customer who has been happy with the financing and or service they've received at a Camping World.
  23. You're wise to make keeping your wife as happy as possible a priority. RE: buying at Camping World; be VERY careful. MANY Camping World locations are NOT known for customer service, particularly AFTER the sale. I expect you're familiar with (or at least heard of) www.rvtrader.com ? www.racingjunk.com occasionally has suitable trailers listed.
  24. Coach Net is really for RVs, NOT commercial HDTs (which is what our rigs actually are). HDTs have their share of breakdowns so, there are LOTS of TRUE Heavy Duty tow trucks and mobile service trucks out there. As Darryl mentioned, you needed BASIC parts / fluids. Whether you call for them, get them yourself or, have a HD wrecker / HD Service truck bring them to you, you DO have choices that can get you rolling again. It may take several hours but it is "doable". While waiting, at least you have your "home" readily available.
