  1. In Fremont, Ia. Set up behind my Mothers house. Just connected to power so far. Got to have some A/C.
  2. The San Juan loop is one of my most favorite rides. One year I rode or drove it almost every two weeks during the summer and fall. Fantastic colors in the fall. HOT during the day in the summer but had frost on the bike one morning when I woke up. Good thing I packed for some cooler weather, even though it was in the 90's the day I left. Rod
  3. Looks like the last post about Steve and Sandy was in 2007. I am currently sitting on their property and it's 2012 in the latter part of April. There has been some occasional frost and I have had to use the furnace just a little. Last summer I worked in Cedar Rapids (about 12 miles from the exit to Steve and Sandy's) and mentioned on the forum that I might return this summer. Last year I stayed at Amana RV Campground until they closed and then out on I-80 for a month before heading back south. Anyway, thanks to the forum Steve or Sandy contacted me and offered a place to park on their 52 acre home base. It's a great place. He has a 50 amp site (where I currently am parked) and a 30 amp site. Both are easy access for an HDT and long 5er. They also have some excellent dry camping areas nestled in a treed pasture. Steve is a previous attendee at the HDT rally's in Wichita, and watches the forum. I will be here for another 7 weeks and will someday get outside with the camera and post some photos on Facebook with a link here. Now I have to get ready for work. Rod
  4. I departed Lantana Fl Easter Sunday. Waited till daylight. One of the other campers decided to hook up and pull out at 0 dark thirty (5am). Was worried that someone was borrowing a rig but then saw ther person and recognised him. Good thing was just getting ready to dial the nine one one. Have stopped in the last rest area before Atlanta. My timing is a bit off from having to stop in Orlando until this morning. I am usually able to do a non stop run and get North of Atlanta before stopping. Will be looking online for a good place to eat between here and there and hopefully when my belly is full the roads will be more empty. Next stop Missouri. Rod
  5. Nice to know, Mike. I usually stop at the one in Sikeston. Great food and a lot of it. Sometimes the line waiting is just too much though. Couple parks in Sikeston that would also be accommodating to large rigs. I will have to add them to the list. Rod
  6. Lantana, Fl. Palm Beach Travelers RV. Nice corner spot. No other "Big Rigs" here. Small older park. Will take some photos and send im for the guide. Rod
  7. Thanks to all for the kind words. Left Iowa last night. Breakfast in Kentucky. Hope the traffic is gone when I hit Nashville. The bypass of Hannibal. And St.St Louis was nice.
  8. Haven't left Iowa as planned. My brother lost his battle with Cancer Wednesday evening, so my departure is delayed. He did tell me a way around Hannibal, Mo and St. Louis finally so I will be able to let everyone know how it turns out next week. Rod
  9. Pulled out of Iowa City this morning. Spending the week in Fremont and heading to Florida next Friday, bright and early. Rod
  10. Made the trip to Iowa without difficulty, until arrival. My spot was occupied, folks here say "we will work with you" Probably won't be set up till Friday of next week. Not good. Saw Bob at the "last rest area in Missouri" as I was passing by. Stopped for a sandwich a bit later but didn't see them again. Had a great time at the Rally. Hope to be able to do a full week again next year. Thanks to all who attended, spoke and especially organized it all. Great job. Rod
  11. Pulled out of Amana this morning. Head for Hitch early tomorrow morning.
  12. Just saw Red Rover in the park. Wish I wasn't working 7 a to 7 p for the next three days and then gone again for the weekend. I'm off next Tuesday and will be staying at home. Might try to visit if they are still here. Rod
  13. The park in Amana has plenty of room now. Good Sam had a Rally last week and didn't quite fill it but there were quite a few hardy souls here. It was a rainy cool and maybe a bit stormy weekend for them. I spend my weekends in a Sticks and bricks and wonder what I will find when I return on Monday morning sometimes. So far all is well. Heading out this morning for a little exploring of Amana's finally. Getting into the 5 day work week finally. Not used to having to be somewhere 5 times a week. At least there is no call and I am off every weekend. Rod
  14. I have a job in Cedar Rapids Iowa until Sept. Hope to stay till it's time to head to Florida again. Worst is it's a 3to11 shift but there is no oncall and no weekends or holidays. Hopefully it will not be too bad. Will be spending most weekends at my Mom's home helping with the yard and stuff. Lost my Dad this spring. Let me know where you wind up for the summer.

  15. Finally made it to Fremont, Iowa and headed to Amana, Iowa on Saturday for a 3 month stay. Will post photos of the park soon.
  16. Thanks. Hope your trip is going well. Have two estimates to decide on this week and then will be taking the truck and box in for the work. Have to be done by June so I can head back to Iowa. Rod

  17. Reporting a sighting of Kechup on I 95 heading north today. Looked like Henry was driving. I was returning from a trip to Iowa ( Dad passed away last Sunday) and had flown into Orlando (Allegiant), rented a car to finish the trip to West Palm.
  18. Have breakfast at the Hotel, the El Rancho good steak and eggs back in the 1990's and the "Duke" stayed there while filming many years ago. That's in Gallup, NM Rod
  19. Arrived John Prince Park in Lake Worth, Florida today for my winter job. Will be here till early June I think. Good trip down. Have a couple rattles under the side fairings that will need looking into but otherwise great trip. Rod
  20. Jefferson County Fairgrounds (JeffCo), Golden, Colorado till early November.
  21. Iowa State Fairgrounds for Wing Ding and maybe the Good Guys car show the 4th of July. Rod 2001 Volvo 770 2007 Weekend Warrior Full Throttle Toyhauler 1995 Goldwing Aspencade
  22. Ottumwa Lagoon park. Electric and water for $15 per day but you have to move to dump the holding tanks or have a tote. No extra charge to dump if you are registered. $1.00 for non campers, not too bad. Lots of Cottonwood trees though. Will have to be sure and clean the A/C after we leave.
  23. Leaving South Florida sometime this weekend. My brother and his family are bringing the yet unnamed 2001 770 down. They are leaving tonight after work. Three licensed drivers so they could come straight through, but I doubt that my sister in law will want to drive or allow the 17 year old son behind the wheel either. We will see when they arrive. It has been hard waiting, and a little expensive. Hopefully I will be able to start doing some of the work on the truck myself and decrease some of the labor costs that I have recently paid. We will be heading to Orlando for our first stop, north and east of Atlanta for another brief stop to visit relatives and then to Chattanooga. Don't know how long we will be there. Want to go to the top of Look Out Mountain and maybe the cave, have been told the Aquarium is a great spot to visit also. Will have to skip some of the attractions due to time constraints. Lamberts in Sikeston, Mo will be the last recreational stop I think and then to Ottumwa, Ia for a few days before going to Des Moines for the Wing Ding. Wonder how many HDT's will be there? Been a good winter in Florida but I'm ready to head North. Rod
  24. Just found this site from a link on the Woodalls site. Have a 2007 Weekend Warrior FTL 4005 Toyhauler. Thought when I purchased my F350 Dually it would be big enough for any Toyhauler I could find. Have to say that was an incorrect assumption. My first trip cost me a transmission rebuild and although the other trips I have made have been problem free, I don't feel comfortable on the ride. Have been looking for a MDT since last winter while in South Florida. Finally found a couple possibilities and posted a couple questions on the Woodalls site. Happy to find this forum with discussions on both MDT and HDT. Am leaning to the HDT side. I full time spending at least 6 months in Florida and the remaining time somewhere else. The possibility of putting an enclosed vehicle on the truck is enticing.
