Thad
Hi, We want to do a rim-to-rim backpacking trip in Grand Canyon National Park. We plan to arrive on May 15th when the North Rim is open. This trip would take 3 nights to complete. We've applied two times for backcountry permits to do this trip, but we didn't get a winning number or however they do it with a lottery or drawing. We know there are permits available for walk-in visitors that don't have a reservation, but the GC website says that those permits do not permit overnight stays Does anyone have any tips on how to get a backcountry permit that would allow us to complete this rim-to-rim backpacking trip? Thanks, Thad
2gypsies
I'd suggest you contact the backcountry office at Grand Canyon. This may help: https://www.nationalparks.org/connect/blog/grand-canyon-rim-rim-hike#:~:text=On this epic Grand Canyon, again to the South Rim. "You can also show up at the Backcountry Office (in person) and request a last-minute permit. If you don't get a spot, you get put on a waitlist with better odds every day you are on it."
