bja1234
Planning about 6 weeks this summer in Maine. DW says we need campground recommendations near Elsworth, Bar Harbor, Woodland, and Eastport. We have a 40 ft fiver for size consideration. Planning to see the sights and eat major lobster. Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you
rwp48
We spent July and Sept in Maine last summer. Didn't need reservations in Sept. Definitely did in July. We stayed in Bass Harbor on MDI for a week and at Lamoine State Park just outside of Ellsworth. We especially liked Lamoine, although you will be dry camping in all Maine State Parks except Camden Hills (which we love) and Sebago Lake (which we didn't). There are several CGs just as you are approaching MDI or just as you cross to the island. We drove through one or two and they looked OK although we prefer the more natural State and National parks. You can take a motorhome to Seawall CG in Acadia NP but make sure you understand the route in. Some of Mr. Rockefeller's stone bridges were built for horse carriages and are too low for a MH to pass beneath. We stayed at Sunset Point CG just outside of Lubec and really enjoyed touring Campobello. Don't forget your passport. FDR summered in Canada! Who knew? We also enjoyed Cobscook Bay SP, but again, you have to be prepared to dry camp. You will be way way "Downeast" and goods and services are more difficult to find up here. We about drove the wheels off our toad doing road trips. We slept under a blanket every night all summer. We had a blast!
Mariner
There's another Sunset Point campground in Harrington, ME. The owner there will cook and deliver to your RV, lobster for $7 Lb. I would look at www.rvparkreviews.com to find places to stay in areas you want to be in. jamarynn1
We've stayed at Patten Pond outside Ellsworth. It was OK, but not great. Facilities were pretty dismal; I would hope they have improved them by now. The lake is beautiful. It's not far to Ellsworth for shopping and not a bad drive to Bar Harbor. . mlburst1
We spent a couple of weeks at Forest Ridge Campground in Ellsworth this past summer. The owners are natives and an outstanding source of information for all of the attractions in the Bar Harbor area. The park is big rig friendly and centrally located to visit all of the sites on the beautiful Maine coast. Mariner
Last year we found Shady Oaks Campground in Bucksport. We were there for two months(Aug.-Sept.). The monthly rate($600 mo.) is hard to beat for that time of year. Certainly not a resort, but facilities kept spotless, grocery near by, and it's centrally located for day tripping in the toad. We have reservations for July & Aug. this summer because we like the people running it, and the location. Selah
We stayed at "Narrows Too" just outside of Acadia NP. Most of the CG is run of the mill, nice but not resort caliber. Except for about 12 premium sites that sit directly on the water. These are terrific sites with a sepctular view of Cadalic Mountan across the bay. All are geard to 5er hookups except one set up for MH. Several of the MH pulled in any how so they could face the water. They just ran their hookups under the MH. Any way take a look.
