  1.    I am curious as to how many smart cars it would take to carry 1 ton of tools and parts. As I use a jeep yj for service work, people keep saying I should use a smart car.

I am curious as to how many it would take to do this.

  2.   I was driving on highway 93 in Montana the other day and past two different RV's of this style.

    ElgJ9aQl.jpg

They may be going to the same RV park. They were not together, but on the same road headed in the same way. Actually not on the road but off in the grass.

     Have a great day,.   Vern

  3.    I want to help with the understanding of a problem I have encountered with there product procedure.

Twice in three weeks I was called for a repair on two different recreational vehicles.

The first one I was asked about the travel time for being at the Rv. I was not aware of having to be there at a certain time. Customer sure thought I was to be there on time. Or did not understand it was important. This was not a problem on the road. I was 41 miles from the Rv. And do work as needed on my route for the day.

When at the job customer stated about being an hour late. ?   So looked at the problems. Not problem. Not one problem for travel. But Customer thought I should be there on time. I did not say I would be there at a certain time.

Now there was a call to Coachnet and got approval for service call after at the job. Now I was not told about extended warranty before being at the job. I also did not understand that Coachnet was providing extended warranties.

I use to do Coachnet roadside service but was so busy with work that emergency work was hard to do so have not done any for a number of years.

So on the next job that I was called on it was three hours from the time the customer called till I was at his Rv. He was rather pissed it took so long.

Now he did state it was a slide problem. So it did not come out along the road. He was sitting in a campground for several days. So once I arrived at his site and was discussing his problem he stated it was an extended warranty with Coachnet.     .??

What is confusing to me is that the Coachnet extended warranty customer think that I should be at there job now, on time. I do not do emergency roadside assistance for Coachnet as I am so busy with normal work. Emergency work is very hard to do when I cover about 100 miles of territory.

So what I am trying to say is if you have Coachnet extended warranty, please explain to the mobile Rv tech that you have the extended warranty and Coachnet roadside assistance. Before you go any farther on said subject.

Extended warranty is one thing       Roadside assistance is another.         Roadside assistance does not mean you get preference for work for the day.

To me the customers were thinking since they have roadside assistance that they get there work done now. Even if it has nothing' to do with travel.

Both of these were instances of new RVers purchasing used units and extended warranties.

So I will no longer do any Coachnet extended warranty work.

  4.   If you are going to make a hole in the bed, plan on making as much as possible under there  accessible.

And try to make it look like it belongs there.

Last year I had to replace a fan motor on a Prevost air conditioning unit. It took 8 hours to cut through cabinets and other such stuff, install the blower motor, and get it back together so it looked like it was never touched.

I discussed cutting through the side body and repair it. Now this was a Previst conversation?

The owner owns a large body shop in Florida. But this was in Montana. He did think about it , but since he was in Montana for the summer we went through the cabinet.

I do not want to do that job again.

  5.  I had a bad cord reel last year.

I would strongly suggest to eliminate the reel a sap. It may do more harm from disconnecting and connecting often. It just needs to the wiring connected directly.

I am a mobile Rv tech hiding in Montana.

  6.   That could be the speed sensor on the rear of the transmission.

It happened to me once. Just out of nowhere it just limited the Rpms to 1500. It drove fine up till that rpm then just did 1500 Rpms.

That was probably 10 years ago. So I do not remember about any codes.

I did drive from San Antonio  tx to Midland tx that day. Once I figured out how to drive it, it was ok.   BBBut it shut off about 3 miles from the destination. Turned key off for awhile. While we were sitting along the interstate I tried to start it and it fired up and ran the last few miles.

Called Cummins on a Saturday night and they thought it was the speed sensor and the replacement fixed it. Simple remove old, clean opening for new and plug and drive.

Hope you have an easy fix,.  Vern

  7.   I need to make a correction to my beginning post.

The local RV dealer where this is at has an ad on tv that shows this unit as a toy hauler. Yep that is what it is. Sorry I cannot find the video, but I do need to correct myself.

So it should fit on one site.

  8.  I was looking at your hitch photo. I wish I had a picture from a remote camera in that open hole on top of the hitch head.

Mine does not have that hole but it may get one installed this week. I may take a remote picture of mine later today.

  9.   This what I do for greasing that unknown area. No it is not a perfect way to do the job. But any grease in that area is better than none.

    etfrveYl.jpg

Some of that grease should find its way into moving parts. It can be aimed at the pivot points of the jaws, top and bottom. Also it can be pointed at the rotating pins also.

Along time ago I had a good friend come buy for a month or so to visit. So we got there fifthwheel positioned in place. Went to unhook and it would not unlatch.

Now this guy is very smart on mechanical things. Just never bought grease. I do not think he even had a grease gun. If he did I never seen it..

In another business I had for years I would look at used equipment for sale. So it was either new ( no grease at bearings ), or used and lots of grease at the bearings. But the worst thing was a used piece of equipment with rust at the moving parts.

Jjjjust  need to explain it better,.   Vern

  10.   Just curious as to the thinking on greasing a Binkly hitch head.

    39ncbrml.jpg

On top of the hitch is the tool I use to grease the underside of the hitch head. Was just reading the hitch post problem and wanted to share what I do.

  11. Read the manual on how to initiate the system. It will probably be at the end of the installation instructions. It mite be a little confusing but it is there. Print that and keep it handy. You may need it again.

That is how to reset the controls. That may fix your problem.

  12.  I could try it in my service business.

The other days I figured have close to 200,000 ton miles of travel with my jeep. That is it has carried about of 1 ton of parts and tools for about 200,000 miles. Just put another set of Michelin XPS tires on it.

      Have a good days,.  Vern

  13.  You need a dc voltmeter and check every connection. It should charge the house batteries. And possibly the chassis batteries. In that time period they may not charge the chassis batteries.

There may be a relay that is bad.

meter it to follow power,.  Vern

  14.  This the passenger side cab grounds on the engine side of the firewall. Just up from the exhaust pipe and towards outside of the truck. Three of them.

    E7KUENdl.jpg

This is the other side location of three cab grounds. The are just under the pass through for the air lines. On the outside of firewall. Yet hey are there just hard to see.uSBUKKul.jpg

They caused an very intermittent miss on our Cummins about 5 years ago.

     Hope this helps,.   Vern
