Do you equally buy gas is both states?

The per-mile taxation would be based upon information from the computer in the car which would provide miles driven and where.  Each state would get their share of miles driven,

Depends on who has the cheapest gas at the time I need to fill up.  I don't personally pay attention to which state I get gas in, I get it when I need it.

The vehicle will never be able to say "where" I've driven or it would need to store GPS information along with miles driven.  At that point you're talking about a federal tax and not a state tax issue.  Imagine taking a vacation for a month and driving 3000 miles during that 4-week time period, crossing 18 state lines and 2 international borders in the process.  Who gets the tax money?

I agree. I suspect insurance companies will become involved because most auto insurance companies have already introduced plans with miles driven tied to annual policy rates. They give you a module that plugs into your OBD port on your vehicle.  I'm assuming the companies have already figured out how to adapt that module to EV's too.

I'd like that option, DW has a 2017 Jeep GC limited with 12,xxx miles on the odometer. My 2013 Chevy Silverado has 87,xxx miles.

Those plans have been around for decades without the module thingy.  I have had the lowest rated plan, at less than 7500 miles per year, for years because I put maybe 400 miles per month on my vehicle hopping back and forth to the local hardware store and driving  twice a month into town 30 miles away.  Usually on a beer run as this end of my county is dry.

  3. A 'per-mile' tax to the state would make the assumption that you drive 100% of those miles within the state borders.  I live 15 minutes from the border of the next state to the west of me and I spend a lot of time on the other side of that border.  How would they make that tax equitable...the state I live in, and the state where I spend 30% of my driving time are both going to want their share.

Ok, I started this and was not offended by the "Weekend Warrior" comment. I have thought more about the initial post and how some term a "Weekend Warrior".

I live full time in my home on wheels. I do NOT travel full time, at least not yet. I would travel to a place, set up and live there for at least 3 months and usually 6 to 9 months, before heading off to the next location. USUALLY ON A WEEKEND.

I think I might just fit into the category of the "Weekend Warrior".  It's true, at times I was in a hurry to get to the place so I could get set up before heading to work on Monday. Sometimes (actually most times) my last day at work would be the longest one ever on the assignment and instead of taking a week to get to my new location I would plan to have everything ready the night before my last day and I could just pull out after work or the next morning and get to my location in plenty of time, but I'm  a bit of a procrastinator and I like to do things only once.  I need to fix that, but so far it's not happened.

I understand the 300 foot rule and try to abide by it especially in my "Big Rig", but it infuriates me when I'm coming up behind a truck and suddenly it pulls out into the left lane and I see another truck a half mile ahead of it.  There is no way in the next 5 miles that the truck is going to make a pass, yet there it is in the passing lane.

Some of you may have seen the decal on my truck.  Believe it or not it seems to work some times.

All I'm asking is for people to Keep Right unless actively passing a significantly slower vehicle.

Pass with a purpose and get out of the left lane.

Look in your  mirrors before you pull into the left lane to pass. If there seems to be someone coming up behind you quickly wait for them to pass on the left before blocking that lane.

If you are thinking about passing the vehicle in front of you use your turn signal well ahead of putting yourself in the left lane.

If you are traveling in the right lane and  see a vehicle stopped on the shoulder. Again signal and move left to give the potential person in that vehicle space and safety. If the left lane is full of traffic you MUST SLOW DOWN to a speed where you could safely stop if needed.

That's my soap box for today.

I will seek help for my procrastination and will try to be a better "Weekend Warrior". I was never in the military and really think the term "Weekend Warrior" is a compliment to those who do serve in that capacity. THANK YOU.

    Well said, Rod.

And as one who retired from the Navy Reserves, doing a hitch on Active Duty first before transitioning, I will tell everyone that once you attain higher rank there is no more "weekend warrior".  I probably spent 40 - 50 hours per month, above and beyond my weekend Reserve time, taking care of Navy business on my own time and own dime after I got off work from my civilian job, which was law enforcement.  There just isn't enough time to get everything done in one 18-hour weekend.  I was also mobilized and recalled to Active Duty for Desert Storm and 9-1-1.  All in all, it was a pretty fun ride.  😎

I don’t know how much you have seen in the last few years but the weekend warrior comment was right on. “A lot” of the weekend people we see seem like they are racing to get the last camp site. Then gone on Sunday before 8. I know we were all there before but, todays campers (people) are not the same as when I grew up camping there, is a difference now.

    I miss that show .

But , yeah . Things could easily go either way .

We bought the entire 5 seasons on Blu-ray for like $50.  Took us a year to go through them.  We've done that with a bunch of series...Rockford Files, Barney Miller, In the Heat of the Night, Northern Exposure...a bunch more.  Makes for good watching when there isn't anything else worth watching on...which is most of the time, it seems.

  7. Pretty sure handguns are a no-no now up there.  I've been back and forth several times on hunting trips and always crossed at the same place - one of those relatively remote stations where the agent was more than likely going hunting after work - and we never had a problem.  Matter of fact, I don't recall them even coming out to check our stuff.  They just asked, "No more than 200 rounds of ammunition per person, right?  No more than one bottle of liquor or one case of beer per person, right?  OK, have a good time, eh."  All while sitting in the office with their feet on the desk, reading a magazine.

When a military membrer joins militarycampgrounds.us Larry mails you a CD with all the famcamps and information to use off-line with your laptop. Allstays requires a cell signal and internet service.

Thank you.  I checked and can't use it since I have an Android phone.

  9. You are going to need to buy travel health insurance coverage before you go.  You will not be covered by Canadian medical while you are there, and most likely any health insurance you have here won't cover you there.  Although I am American, all my relatives live in Canada and I had an accident there a number of years ago while on a hunting trip.  They treated me, of course, but everything was cash out-of-pocket because I had no Canadian travel insurance and my Anthem Blue Cross coverage wasn't an option.  I have never heard of anything like "walk-in availability for blood work", even here.

I think if I had any kind of chronic condition that might need treatment during a given period of time, I would not chance going OConus.

you probably already have this app, but I'll post it here incase someone doesn't

AllStays C-RV   has military Famcamp and other military rec facilities not listed in the other Allstays apps.

I only see a link to Apple store on their web page.

    Much appreciated.

Been a few years but Yuma Proving Grounds has a nice FamCamp with a pretty good sized overflow for dry camping.  There were a lot of long term (6 months) rentals then and getting into the full hookup in the peak of winter snowbird season could be a challenge.

Here is a link to the Arizona military recreation facilities:  https://www.militarycampgrounds.us/arizona

    Thank you.

If you are on FB you should ask these questions in the Military RVing group. I know there are a number of folks there that have stayed Davis Monthan for extended periods.

I'll give that a shot, too.  But I figured, this is an RV site, with a veteran's forum, so why not also post the question here?

  13. Does anyone have any recent experience with any of them?  Saguaro Skies, Boneyard Vista, or down by Yuma?  Prices, how congested they get, do they fill up during the winter...that sort of thing.  Thanks...

It is an open forum. Why not just make posts solely by and for other veterans yourself here?

15 or so years ago, I forget, several of us discussed having a Vet's forum I asked Mark Nemeth, then the Forum Admin, for a Veteran's forum to help Vets get registered with the VA and to know how to get benefits they earned. Because those questions and answers were all over the place. He did a survey and found plenty of interest back then.

That was back in the days we did a lot of SKP hugz and We also had a lot of FamCamp personal reviews and opportunities on bases and facilities open only to DOD card holders which could be retirees, medically retired personnel, and DOD civilians as specified in the FAMCAMP directories. One guy started a "Sound Off" thread that we all posted what branch we served in, years we were active or reserve, and where we were assigned.

The SKPs forums were a lot more active back then.

    Welcome to the forum.

That was kind of what I was looking for - posts from veterans and retirees about their experiences specifically regarding military RV parks.  I have noticed that there are only a few forums on this site that are regularly active.  Some will sit for days or weeks without anyone adding a new post.  So I'll start with a new one.

I would guess all travel and have the same RV experiences as anyone here.  The posts would be under the appropriate headings.

Since this forum is simply titled "Veterans", I'm looking for posts solely made by and for other veterans.  Otherwise why have a special forum for them?
