  1. Friday update (8/26/22).

I don't have the truck back yet.  I was told it will run and drive around the dealer under it's own power now.

They have replaced several modules from the ECU on down.  Right now they have four (4) more modules on order, TCU (I was expecting that one), the dash display module, body control module and the brake control module.

The TCU is "back-ordered" and the dealer is dealing directly with Volvo/Mack on when it will arrive.

They tell me the last one they had in the shop that was struck by lighting, they had to replace every computer in the vehicle.

Optimism is still there, just reality-tempered a bit.

Good news.  Hope to see ya in October?

Unfortunately, for numerous reasons, the truck being only one, we will not be able to make it to the National.

I hope we can be back fully operational by the ECR, if that happens, in the spring.

  3. The ECU is installed.  Proper communication with the truck's systems is possible now.

They have order a couple of other modules that should be there in the next day or two.  Progress is happening.

Side note, my pickup is finally home from having a busted transfer case.

  4. News on the truck:

We've been playing the waiting game on a new ECU.  I spoke to the dealer working on the truck and they expect the new ECU either tomorrow (8-19) or Monday (8-22).  Once that is installed they will be able to run the truck properly and begin doing further system tests to see what else needs attention.

I'm cautiously optimistic she will live again...

  5. First word from the shop is encouraging.  They have it running!

They needed to arc the starter, because the key switch doesn't work, but it ran on it's own.  Obviously the ECM is partially toasted, but it does run.  An ECM is on order now and we'll see what happens from here...

  6. It left Airventure on the hook Tuesday to a Volvo dealer in FonDuLac.   They are hoping to get it in the shop next week to evaluate it.

Until then, we’re not sure if it will live another day or…

  7. Wow.  I have never had an issue with releasing my ET.  I don't dump the truck suspension, we just put the landing gear down and take some weight, release the clamping block, and take more weight on the gear until there is a small gap between the plate and lube plate, then pull away.

I do lube the clamping block and jaws on the ET.  Henry said this wasn't necessary, but I do it anyway.

  8. This is an interesting topic to me.  I just had MORryde suspension and Kodiac brakes installed on our coach.  My understanding is that these calipers are basically standard GM front calipers from 80s vintage vehicles (the same also as my 94 Ram truck).  They would have two lubricated shoulder-bolts going through the caliper into the bracket holding them in place.

I have put 100s of thousands of miles on these types of brakes and never once in many years of abuse have I had a caliper bolt come loose or need to have any sort of Loctite (much less permanent red) on the threads.

What is the dynamic that is causing this?

    Howdy All,

At my age, I refuse to let the cost of fuel stop me from enjoying myself.  YES, I am upset with the cost of fuel but if the choice is to enjoy my life at a COST or sit home and brood about what might have been, I am filling the darn tank, burning it, killing the planet and endangering the childern.  I know some folks can't have this attitude and that life is a struggle which the high cost of fuel is severely hurting, remember who did this to you when the time comes.

    Amen, Dave!!

  10. You’ve been so welcoming and we have very much enjoyed the southern hospitality of the ECRs that we have attended.

We hope you and Donna will continue to attend future events without the stress of administering the rally.

Just a thought.  Just because you can drive one in doesn't mean you can get out of the car once its inside.  It must be narrow enough or a convertible.

My side by side is wider than the Spark...

  12. I have driven my Chevy Spark into ours.  No issues.

We have D-rings in the floor that I tie through the shell to the floor at the 4 corners.  This is also the method that I use to secure the UTV (our normal cargo).

And another fine day dawns.     The cycle repeats: go out and greet neighbors, head to the pavilion for a presentation or two, break for lunch, go back to absorb some more information, gather for happy hour and maybe a campfire.  Can it get any better?

    Nope.
