  1. ON irv2.com a man from TX claims drivers license from other states may not be valid if the TX drivers laws state you must have a CL B TX license. The discussions got so heated the moderator closed the thread. Any feed back from the experts who possess one? Most, including me, have the impression drivers license from all states are reciprocal.

  2. Back when I was working-post-military retirement, a co-worker decided he would retire at 65 to get as much SS as he could. Well,  he did retire at 65, the next month he was found dead in his front yard where he had been planting flowers---with his first retirement check in his shirt pocket.

Another co-worker worked until he was 70, mandatory age for Westinghouse. He and I were talking one day during lunch, he said he didn't know what he would do after Westinghouse made him retire, as he had no hobbies or interests outside of work. I suggested he establish a goal of having the best-looking yard on his block, then his neighborhood, then the entire city. His lit up and he walked away smiling.

That's both sides of that coin.

Me, I retired from the Army, then Westinghouse, then their successor/ABB at 58, then raised cattle until 60; I've never looked back. Since then I've been a truck driver pulling a 5er, now a bus driver for current rig; or so says my BIL.

  3. Getting off-topic_ but I must correct a misconception. Triple-towing is the tractor/power unit towing 3 trailers, double-towing is 2 trailers, one trailer is single towing. One cannot include the power unit as being towed, otherwise when one is simply driving a car it would be classified as towing. Several RVing websites perpetuate this myth.

  4. LED brake/tail lights could be wired into the OEM lights. Rear view camera, IMO wireless is the way to go; I have a  Voyager system that works fine on our 40' MH, it does require 12V pos and neg for camera power, the monitor uses a cigar lighter plug for power.

  5. IMO the battery charger is not working. Borrow an auto battery charger, hook it up your battery and read voltage. If this voltage is not above 14V on the charger it's not being charged. You don't need a large battery charger, a 10A is fine, just observe charging time limits for the charger.

If this does not solve the problem, begin checking for a poor/missing ground to the battery.

Ray, how is the water in your fresh water tank being exposed to sunlight?

Sorry, I jumped from one subject to another. I was thinking about my whole-house water filter at the CG hydrant, it has a clear bowl(my selection mistake) which promotes algae growth inside when exposed to sunlight, regardless of residual chlorine in the city water.

Sodium Dichlor is dichloroisocyanuric acid.   It is designed to slowly release chlorine in swimming pools where sunshine causes regular hypochlorite to break down to fast to maintain effective free chlorine.  NOT designed for potable water use.   And no, I would not use it in our rig.

Barb, here is where I got my information and the idea of using Sodium Dichlor: http://rvbasics.com/techtips/sanitizing-your-rv-fresh-water-system.html

Art Knapp had the same information on his website, of course it and he are gone now.

Does it sanitize the water system the way that chlorine does? Not being a chemist, I really tend to think that it would but do not know for sure.

Yes it works exactly the same as liquid bleach, however it has no aftertaste. Being 70% chlorine any user must know the hazards involved. For instance, getting the powder in your eyes will cause blindness, thus the admonition to read and adhere to the SDS instructions for handling and use.

I bought a 1# pouch of Sodium Dichlor granules 6 years ago, and have about half remaining. It must be stored in an air-tight container, otherwise if it gets damp chlorine gas is the danger. Available at all pool supply stores.

Thank you for the prompt replies.

I am familiar with the standard methods of performing this function, but would like to try the chlorine beads used in pool maintenance.  Seems much simpler...simply add to the tank and fill with water.  I believe this method is in use and thot' I'd find someone who utilized it.

    Thanks again for the replies.

Read the SDS, some pool products contain heavy metals since they are not meant to come in contact with drinking water. I use Sodium Dichlor@ 70%, one tsp sanitizes a 100G system. It has no taste, so one rinse is all that is necessary.

This is a granulated product that must be kept dry in storage and handling.

This IS a hazardous material if not handled properly!!!

Are you saying that Boliy parts are interchangeable with Honda parts?

That's the story, however I haven't had to replace anything but the carb on mine, it cost $38. That was entirely my fault, I  forgot to drain the carb one winter we spent in TX. The crappy gas corroded the carb. Yes, Boily has a specific carb drain screw accessible through a casing vent. BTW my Boliy is a 2008 model and performs like new.

Honda EU series are quiet and reliable.  Parts and service are available nation wide.  On the clones, you pay your money and you take your chances.

That was the same situation when Honda began selling gensets, lack of service shops. I use a Boliy, inverter genset, every part is "plug n play" and most Honda shops have replacement parts.

  13. The TFL website explains everything we should know, and covers questions and answers posted. It is the official source for this information.

TO obtain a new/replacement military ID card, contact your nearest National Guard center and inquire if they have a RAPIDS section, as only HQ detachment is authorized a one. While there update your personal information in DEERS. Everyone should get an updated ID card if the present card displays your SSN, DOD has eliminated SSN's on ID cards and replaced them with a DOD number.

  14. Newer Copper Fit pans are advertised as safe for ALL heating sources, they even sell an induction cooktop. DW likes the fact a metal spatula or spoon may be used with them.

She also uses a set of T-Fal induction-ready pots N pans, but one must use nylon or similar material spoons in them to prevent damaging the non-stick surface. These were the best buy at that time.

Lots of remote locations don't have pink stuff available so folks blow out everything quite successfully.  There are many thousands of boats cleared of water this way all the time in Alaska.  A plunger works fine for pumping clear a p-trap BTW.    I have had good luck with air clearing water from the ice maker and tubing.  How's the best way to get the pink stuff to do this?  Make some pink slush?

    Later, J

Nope, you merely remove the solenoid water connection and empty the bowl, when you remove the bowl the ice maker line drains.  I always dump the first batch of ice, which may contain something I don't want in my Scotch on the rocks. Someone once asked about draining the supply line inside the freezer, DuHH.
