  1.  only have a F250 4X4, buying another new truck is out of my $$ range.

yes i understand removing "stuff" lowers the weight of the truck, was just asking what if anything others have done for this.

yes i have thought about removing the bed, but the state of ca says i must stop at a scale if not a factory body bed on the truck. (all pu trucks in ca are registered as commercial trucks, weight tax and all). so it will cost me to alter the bed body. hope to remove up to a couple hundred pounds, but going to cost me big $$ to do so.

a F450 would be great, not much better towing than a 350, but you get a much better (tighter) turning.

maybe i can sell the tail gate?

  2. ok so all the talk about adding in weight,

how about some legal ways to reduce the weight of the truck. there has to be some out there.

yes i understand removing weight is going to co$t.

  3. do not feel alone on all this, monday a package arrived at my post office. but then was forwarded to another town just up the rd, now today (wed) they do not know were it is, believed it was sent back to sacramento.

i have had one package go to at least six different citys up and down ca... after it was in my towns office. finely after three weeks i did receive it. and it was tracked the whole time.

  4. most need no maintenance, but can be a problem, as to cost, just a simple high output car/truck alt with a cover and only a 6 foot set of blades, can be home built. no need for a carbon fiber blade or way over priced factory stuff.  the real cost is the speed controller assembly. faster the blades spin the more angle the blades are set for. till they go flat for over a X wind speed.

but if you go too high then the faa gets there dirty fingers in it.

but i have seen a couple of them on tilt pole towers only about 50-60 feet up.

    was just a thought.

i have done way too much research into all this. was thinking of trying to work out a off grid for my self. as i used to live on a hill top at the end of the power line.

  5. not sure about this year, i do want to go, but my 3/4 ton truck is dead. no moneys to buy a $75,K truck.

then was going to bring my mom last year, but her health is getting worse. and now all these people spraying things down is making me sick (bad lungs here). no not a smoker just a victim of others who do. yes -sad- i am "that guy".

  6. i can not say for "other" states, but in ca we pay a road tax on fuel, land, air, water, food, clothing, sales, etc and not just at the retail level.

the democrats in control have put in a road tax into everything we use and need in ca. but detour said funds to pay for

"other" projects that have nothing to do with the roads.

heck my pu needs new tires, and i will pay out over $100.usd in just tax. then the "fees" (another way to  say, tax).

and what increase in fuel millage?  a chevy 350 motor get about the same as a 1960's model car got.

a 1969 chevy malibu 350 motor, turbo 350 trans, tall gears, NO computers. got up to 32 mpg on the freeway).

just most cars now run small 6 or 4 cylinder motors.

  7. no mater what is said, any 'gas" in a pressure vessel is a big problem on our hwy's. fires in auto crashes are not a big part of the problem, but tanks can be damaged. propane is not that big a deal as is not common.

and one said gasoline fires spread out, sure it is a liquid, but will drain down hill. a gas will seek out and be pulled to any open flame.

look at all the accidents along the roads. not the fender bumpers but the ones were the cars are all crumpled up. just the hwy to my job only 47 miles one way there have been three head-on accidents (that i know of) in the past six months. 2 with with fatal results, one not sure of as it was just this am.

  8. it would be great if i could get a discount by paying with a check. i pay nothing by cc. just direct payment from the bank.

sad but when a check was used the cc company's had (still do) a way so the check to them is delivered late.

but as of today's date, i can not remember the last time i wrote out a check.

  9. can you say PORK.

Virginia’s U.S. Sen. Shelley Capito  added this into another bill that had nothing to do with any park or game refuge.

this is why the fed and state governments are way too deep in debt.. if only we Americans could spend like our government can.

so much land is locked away where most people can never get to anyhow. aka: no roads, trails, etc.

only those who are rich and like to hike out into the boonys for weeks at a time can enjoy these areas.

put away your flame throwers, i to believe places should be allowed to be left alone (but no human should be allowed in there.). and then when a plane crashes, or a major fire hits, no way to help save lives, or put out the fire. no roads=no access.

  10. i double what twotoes said.

after two years usage time to do a flush and fill. longer if just sitting. but sounds like it is time. motors need to be used, if not things will go bad.

and if your going to let it sit. might do a 75% antifreeze/25% distilled water. mix and a additive.

flush out the system, install new and run till warm. also clean out the heater core.

but first check for a leak. fix that first.

  11. for a s&b site. look into two or four of the larger sized power jack/fork lift batteries.

but if north of a set point on the globe, solar is just burning money in a open pit fire. there is a "sun index thing"

then install at least 2K of solar. batteries, converters. might not need to hook up to the grid.

hows the wind there? up 150 feet above ground level that is,  not much needed, just steady.

and if you are going to use a container please coat it to curb corrosion. and vent it. top and bottom. some gases can go boom.

  12. hydrogen.... remember the Hindenburg.

one spark and no way to put out the fire.

then the pressure vessel you would need for your fuel tank.

support.. there is none. at least propane is everywhere. but it is a junk fuel. then any compressed gas fuel is not very good at altitude or in the cold.

and in his story, hydrogen "only puts out" heck in theory even the good ol gasoline motor is not supposed to put out any "smog gasses".
