  1.

Sorry to hear about your back. The uneventful drive is like we all want our drives to be. We had some slide toppers replaced when we were in Florida -- not fun and a little issue in itself but all is good now, we hope.

Where you heading after Boise? We had our last birthday party today for another month. We've had four of them in a row and glad that's over with. A family reunion follows next weekend. My cousin is in charge of hosting this year but she wanted to host it at our place .... ugh. When that's over and if Terry doesn't have any more follow appointments, we're taking off for vacation. All I can say is it's about time. We need a rest!! Not quite sure where we'll head yet .... maybe Glacier and maybe not. You know how that goes.

Oh I forgot there was also an episode with the black tank before we left Pocatello too. What a day.

We are going as far north as Coeur d'Alene, Id. not sure when we'll get there though. Then through Walla Walla and along the Columbia toward the coast before going south.

    Jeff :)

  2. Thanks Jeri. I think Escapees did a reset and lost my previous post.

Friday was a move day from Pocatello to Boise. I managed to strain my lower back getting ready to leave and its ok now. Then got sprayed with the hose at the dump station by you know who. The drive to Boise was uneventful but set up wasn't. Tina was moving the big slide out when one of the slide topper brackets ripped off. We got it fixed I think.

Been chillin' this afternoon watching drag racing on Fox.

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

  3. We met Dave and Diane at the farmers market in Pocatello this morning then went to lunch at a local brewery. It had been a long time since we had seen them. They are doing well and the new truck is pretty. We'll get together again this winter in Arizona.

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

  4. Happy Birthday Linda!

After leaving La Pine Oregon we made our way to just outside of John Day Oregon and spent a couple nights before moving to Caldwell Idaho. We will hang out here for a week. Went to a ski compitition yesterday and hit a train Depot Museum in Nampa today along with a Farmers Market and a few other things.

Plan to hit the Green Belt bike path probably Monday in Boise and whatever else we can muster up while here before making another move next Thursday. The plan at this point is head to American Falls for a few nights and check out Pocatillo from there.

Dave, we are going to Pocatello Friday. Lets get together there or near by?

Going to be hot next week in Salt Lake City. Starting Monday 100 - 102 until Sunday. Important day tomorrow in Utah. July 24, 1847 is when they settle here in Salt Lake City. Monday is a holiday with a parade down town SLC.

  5. Question for you that knw Colorado. We were thinking about going to Salt Lake City Utah and heading east into Wyoming to Laramie and then down through Fort Collins and south through Denver and then over to Durango.

Or would we be better off going from Salt Lake to Moab and on to Monticello and over into Colorado on 491 to Cortez and hwy 160 to Durango?

Even if we went the southern route we would spend a month covering the state anyway but maybe a bunch of it doing driving tours.

You can't go wrong going either way. There is alot to see in the Colorado mountains and I know you like big cities. LOL. You may wish you had the Jeep but there are many trails that you truck can do too. You are meeting tdhomestead and lil red rooster down south soon I'd go through Moab first.

We are in Provo now, give us a shout when you get to Salt Lake we'll get together. Have you come across Hwy 50 through Nevada to Utah?

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

  6. in chalk of course!

We had called a state park near Vernal, Ut. and they said they had a place for us "just show up". We wanted a week. So we left Steamboat got to Vernal and they only had a night or two available with power. We stayed one then on to Provo. Here at least a week probably two.

Dave, we came down through Laramie on 287 into Fort Collins. Nice road and no traffic. We then went up to Estes Park for the highland festival with knights jousting and such. They always have something going on up there. Then we came back down to Horsetooth reservoir at Fort Collins with Mike and Julie and stayed there until the floods were over. Nice spot to make your base camp and drive your truck up to Estes and Rocky Mountain National park. That flood up there was a hell of a mess, but we were on high ground there at Horsetooth. All I can remember of that part was Mike standing on the roof of his rig with a tube of silicone calk and shouting some Scottish curses at the "rain gods". We got about 11" of rain in a day or two. Fort Collins has really nice restaurants. Lucille's is one of the favorites if you can get in. They had a killer crab benedict. My sister lives in Berthoud (just south of there) so we go there a lot. Happy Travels Steve

We usually stay at Boyd Lake State Park in Loveland. It's less than a 3 mile bike ride on a paved path to our daughter and her family's house. Our son in law is a boat ranger at Horsetooth Reservoir. Lots to do in the area as Steve says.

  7. Hey, Jeff, we stayed at the Provo Elks for a month. Nice place! They even brought us out chicken soup when Carol had her operation. A little tight getting in the drive as the lodge is off the street a ways, but once you get in off the street there's plenty of room.. Steve

Thanks Steve. Looks like a very nice Lodge. Y'all on the move? Were are you going when you do?

    Jeff :)

  8. Headin' to Kearney, NE tomorrow...yeehaw, I get to spend mid July on the Plains. They say that we can expect 100's+ when we get to Sterling, CO. Our turn for the oven, I guess! :P

Jeff, we're heading to S. Utah after CO first week of Sept. Maybe we can cross paths?! We'll be with the "two Dianes" and their drivers...(LOL) at Ignacio, end of Aug. Maybe there too? Been too long!

It has been awhile since we've seen you. We are headed north toward Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for Labor Day weekend (maybe) then toward the Pacific Coast. Hope to see the Pacific without alot of fog. LOL. Then south for the winter.

Good luck with the Diane and Dianne and their drivers. Also good luck on the wedding. My buddy Larry says you have to do this when in Kearney.

  9. Dave the higher = cooler. Think it was low 40's this morning and low 80's for a high today.

Steve - You and Carol have stayed at the Ogden Elks? What did you think about it and the area? Leaving Colorado tomorrow heading for Utah.

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

  10. Our Oregon stay is about over, just a couple more things to do to the new pickup and we will start a slow crawl towards Colorado. I guess because we are only maybe 3 days away from leaving I better start looking at a route LOL!! And maybe a few options for places to stay when we move around Colorado.

Choices choices, drop in from the north, slip in the middle from the west, swoop up from southwest. Maybe I better let Diane look at the map and tell me. No matter which way we go it will be warm.

Moved from Loveland, Co. where it was near 100 degrees yesterday to Steamboat Lake, Co. where it suppose to get in the mid 30's by morning. Good grief. Back to 80's for day time temps though.

Hey Dave at least put some truck pictures on your blog. Lets see it.

  11.

Sounds to me like another good story for the class archives. Someone is keeping a record of these right?

    Linda

That's part of the trip story. Had a 3 hour drive from Q to Phoenix to fly to Denver. Left our Jeep with Jeri and Terry who took us to the airport. After going through TSA and finding our gate I discover my drivers license has fallen out of my pocket. Luckily someone turned it in to someone at the the next group of gates. The flights were good. When we got back to our Jeep we need a jump to get it started. Then the 3 hour drive back to Q. It's an adventure all the time.

Thanks again to Roger and Lynn for babysitting our rig and cat. Also to Jeri and Terry for the ride to the airport and watching our Jeep before they went to Q also.

  12. Um, the bullets incident? Sounds like a story I missed.

    Linda

A year ago last January Tina and I had to fly to Denver because my Dad was very ill. He passed away while we were there. We had to fly back to Phoenix with more stuff than we had taken so we put stuff in a "gym" bag Dad had. I didn't check the side pockets and when we went through security they discovered 12 twenty-two bullets. We were taken aside and I told our story. They let us go and we flew to Phoenix. A couple of months later I got a letter from the TSA. I don't believe I'm on the list but we haven't tried to fly either.

Apparently the bag was where Dad kept his pistol that I took from him in 2008 before he went to assisted living. So the bag had been thrown in closets where he had lived since 2008. I never thought to check the side pockets. I'm sure Dad got a chuckle out of it.

  13. Send us all the GPS coordinates of those biters. That way we'll be able to stay away.

Jeff ... are you still on the "No fly list" :)

Lee ... we're all hoping that you'll be as good as new in no time. I bet you're really looking forward to getting back in your Hornet !!

Jeri - Don't know if I'm on the "no fly list" after the "bullets incident". Haven't tried flying since. Thanks Dad. :)

The gnats here are real carnivores. Really annoying and itchy. Not sure of the coordinates though. Sorry. Tom and I got the worst of it. Guess we are tasty. LOL!

    Jeff :)

  14. Jeff and Tina stopped by for a visit Yesterday, they are with Tom and Diane E of Bayfield, It was good to see them. The campground has been busy the last couple of weeks. Happy Fathers Day to the fellows. Glad to see this thred up again.

    LIFE IS GOOD!!!

    Freddy and Delcie

Tina and I did surprised Freddy and Delcie yesterday. They are looking good and little Echo couldn't be any cuter. They are in a very pretty area too. I'll second Freddy's "Happy Fathers Day" to the rest of the guys.

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

  15. We've been boondocking with Tom and Dianne since Saturday near Bayfield, Co. Some gnats or no-see-ums got to us on Saturday. Tom and I seem to have the most bites but Dianne and Tina got their share too. Boy do they itch. It has been great except for our bug bites. We met one of their Son's and his family on Saturday too. Hope they didn't get bit as much as we did. Not sure how long we are staying here, think Tom and Dianne are leaving tomorrow.

    Travel safe everyone.

    Jeff :)

  16. Thanks for the suggestions - at least I got one reply! I was beginning to think I was being ignored or that there actually wasn't anything to do in those states

Another place is the original store for the TV show American Pickers is in Le Claire, Ia. near the Quad Cities and the Mississippi River.

Between Iowa City and the Quad Cities is the worlds largest truck stop. It's something to see.
