  1. I believe my bed height is closer to 46" and when I load slowly by cable, I have about a 1/2 inch clearance.  Picking your area for loading has the most effect on clearance, if needed, place a 2x6 under the bottom of your ramps and or that piece of angle iron at the hinge of the ramps.

I do get into the car and drive it off.  Adds a couple hundred pounds, but doesn't touch bed.

  2. What year truck do you have?  Some of the Gen 1 trucks will stay down once the key is off.  Gen 2 and newer - I'm not sure, but I know of a couple that will come back up after key is off.  Doesn't sound like a leveling valve problem, you've just got some air leaks as mentioned.  Have fun finding them.

I looked at the link you sent and they do no do my area.  I will look for a local mobile inspector.  What is a rough price range I should expect to pay for this service?

If you haven't been scared off yet, then contact the companies.  They have contract inspectors all over.

  4. Forget the DOT inspection.  You don't ever need that.  Put the funds toward a real inspection company that you can probably find in the resource guide, or I'm sure one of the guys will chime in with a name or two.  Get the records on the truck from the seller/volvo.  The money you invest in a mechanical inspection will tell you what you need to know in order to move forward, slash the price, or to run.

  5. Just a thought, Jack had helped me re-wire my transfer switch a number of years ago on the Teton when it had shorted out!  The switch was behind the partition sliders and the smoke smell was pretty strong in the rig.  Find your transfer switch, open it up and see if you have any thing blackened in there.  Good Luck.

  6. This happened to us during a power outage in the city this last summer.  A good friend Bill, pointed out that there is a sticker that says something like Check Oil Level Every Time Before Starting!  OK!!!! So with barely a 1/2 qt. added, it started and stayed running!   Don't you just love sensors!
