  1. Alicia - you have a great point - I almost always have to do a search to find this thread if it's been a while since someone posted. They guys post SO MANY threads on the HDT section that our piddly little one thread gets lost in the maze (not complaining about their posting - it's important stuff, but our topics can be important to us as well). A sticky would be great, but if we stepped outside the HDT section and had our own section, we'd lure in ladies that are not big truck gals (yet!!!) and let them see that these trucks aren't scary and we have a LOT of fun with the trucks and the lifestyle, and the safety of having enough truck to pull and stop the trailers... It would be multi purpose - part recruitment into the dark side, partly just having more ideas when we are discussing a particular topic. After all, the more the merrier when it comes to a bunch of ladies chatting huh!?
  2. Still in Texas right now. Wayland is finishing up a few things on the truck, and the "house" (as we call it) is over in Granbury (about an hour away) while we finish our visits with friends here. Next will be northern Alabama for some R&R time in the boat fishing, before heading over to the rally in TN. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves wherever they are - after all, if we don't like where we are, moving is not rocket science! I tell people that this is the PERFECT lifestyle for a control freak - if you don't like the weather - move, if you don't like your neighbors - move, if someone you want to visit with is in somewhere else and you want to see them - move! Perfect lifestyle if you're not "married to" a bunch of stuff you have to keep. That does seem to be the sticking point for many doesn't it? Travel safe everyone and happy trails!
  3. Thanks Raquel - you get it... Jack, no offense, but you don't get the point. Part of the point is that we have lots of things we can discuss and the various conversations get lost in the "single thread format of RDBE", and the other point is that ladies that do not (yet?) own HDTs would never come over here and see how much fun we have and that gals can drive these things (and they're not as scary as they would think). It's part "recruitment" and part "rabbit chasing". Facebook or other social media would immediately loose me and probably some others, as I don't do any of that stuff and don't intend to start. There would be enough activity I believe to have our own section outside of HDT, because if we were there, other ladies would chime in and join us - where they won't if we're hidden away in the HDT section. See?? Calling the section Ladies Only - (RDBE rigs driven by estrogen") would peak their interest I think...
  4. Well ladies - with Tennessee just around the corner - how about we revive this thread? I still think getting our own section outside the HDT in the forum would be fun and a good place to visit with other ladies who aren't on the "dark side" yet... So what has anyone got to say as we launch this section into action again? A special RDBE section out in the "general" part of the forum...??
  5. Well we got to "enjoy" our first tornado warning/watch/hail/etc in the rv today in TX. NOT a fun day! We were not in a place to be able to go to a "safe building", so we tried to figure out if we'd be safer with the slides in or out. Opted for out, but still not sure on the answer for that. Hope tomorrow doesn't bring more lousy weather while we are away from the rig visiting friends for the day. The poor cats were terrified with the hail pounding the roof, skylights, and windows - and frankly, I wasn't too comfortable either. I kept thinking it was going to blow us all down the freeway for trucks to smash into. We have an emergency weather radio and it basically kept yammering at us for about 4 hours overall. So nice that it's been silent for several more hours! This was a day I would like to NOT repeat any time soon. If the truck wasn't in Poolville about an hour or more away, I would have lobbied for hooking up and running away from this weather before it got here, but I have a feeling hubby would have thrown logic on me and told me that you can't know which way to run or something like that. UGH! I'm missing the weather proof part of Colorado - this stuff is scary! If anyone has advice on slides in or out for future reference (that I hope to never need again, but figure I'm not that lucky), I'd love to know how to deal with the violent weather that this part of the country can throw at one. I told the folks here that "you Texans sure know how to throw a party for visitors"! They promised no more today...
  6. We will be headed to Wayland's right after we leave CO on the 11th (had a quickie wedding celebration to attend in the Springs on the 10th), but since we have friends in Granbury, we may try to stay at Bennett's in G'bury so we don't have to drive an hour and a half to see them. If our friends are unavailable or Bennett's is full (don't have many large spots), then we'll go to "plan B" and stay at Mitchells and do the long drive... We'll be going from Wayland's area over to the Dallas area next to visit family - now THAT'S a hard place to find LONG rv spots with full hook ups!! Then on to some great crappie fishing we hope... Either Mississippi or northern Alabama before heading to the HDT rally in TN. Hope to see a bunch of you there!!
  7. Hey Camps - you're a little ahead of us. We "plan" on heading straight to Wayland's when we leave here on 3-9 - but all may change as my uncle (actually my "step uncle-in-law" - but we love him more than my real uncle) has had a heart attack and a quad bypass and is NOT doing well. So we may not get to keep our "anniversary" date (3-9 is our 7th anniversary of moving into the house - so that's the date we wanted to move OUT). We may end up going to MO if he can hang in there till 3-9 - or I may have to fly out there for the funeral prior to us leaving if he doesn't make it. Anyway, let us know how you like the rv park there as we'll need a place to hang our spurs as well... We're praying that uncle will hang in there till it's time to leave, then we'll just go to MO instead of TX first... Sharon
  8. Cool - now there's three of us from the same fleet (our trucks that is...). 4Girls&aMan has a "sister truck" from the same fleet as our truck - so I assume that yours is also from that fleet. Kinda cool to have "sister trucks" out there in our group! You guys coming to the ECR in TN? Though not our first rally, it will be our first rally as full timers (disturbing how much that reminds me of "Alzheimer's" - or as some prefer to say "all timers")! Who all here is going to the ECR in April? Mike - so glad Joann is doing better! I must have missed some posts - I didn't realize that she had hurt herself. Tell her we're glad she's on the mend! Sharon
  9. Our full time adventure starts in just over a month - on March 9th, we hit the road full time! Still here in CO with snow and wind trying to sell as much as possible before we leave. Just about got a nice size dent in it - but we're talking about our lifetime accumulation of collecting, hobbies, and what not's. I should have gotten serious about de-stuffing about 5 years ago when things were selling! Getting jazzed for the East Coast rally in April... Hope to see many of you there. Sharon
  10. I couldn't agree more! Our sticks and bricks home is in one of the windiest places I've ever been in, and even people from Chicago say that if whoever named Chicago "the windy city" had come here first, Chicago wouldn't have gotten the name! So because we're really used to high winds, we go somewhere and folks complain that it's really windy, we just look at each other with "that look" that says (only to each other) "they think THIS is windy! HA!". So it's really all about perspective. That's part of the fun of rv'ing isn't it - the quest to find those places that you fall in love with, and marking other places off the map with a "no thank YOU" next to it...
  11. So who all had that white stuff on the ground where you were for Christmas!? Hope everyone had a really great day with the ones you love! We're almost ready to go full time! WOO HOO - ready or not, we pack up and leave the house around mid Feb. The house has a serious looker, but we won't know how serious for another week or two at best. So we'll leave the house empty and ready to move into so we don't have to come back early just to move out. We'll spend summers here in Colorado cuz I'm a total wuss for heat and humidity - drains me completely. So come summer, I get to enjoy my beautiful mountains and tons of wildlife again, but in the meantime - lots of other fun stuff (like the rally in TN)!
  12. So very, very sorry for the loss of your brother Rod. May you have the "peace that passes understanding" from Christ Jesus. I never would have survived both my parents passing like I did if it weren't for His peace. Take care and travel safe.
  13. So Daveena - think we could get our own "section" of the forum (like the HDT section that has multiple threads)? That would enable us to branch out - and perhaps even draw in some of the "girly truck" ladies and maybe "convert them" thru the amount of fun that we have with our rigs and lifestyles? You're very lucky to still have your mom! Lost mine to a stroke this last March - after being in a nursing home for a couple of years with Alzheimer's. Fell and broke the second hip, had surgery, and two weeks later had the stroke and passed away in two days. So even though at times she may or may not try your patience, just remember what a blessing still having your parents is! Lost my dad 6 months prior to mom, but I still have my stepmom thankfully... Anyway, looking forward to meeting you, Henry, and your sweet mom! Sharon
  14. Heidi - glad to know that it helped. We love ours! And good to hear from you. Every time I wash or wear my looney toons shirt, I think of the girls and their many questions regarding the shirt, and get a big chuckle! So where are you guys now and are you planning on coming to the TN rally? We'll have to email and catch up. Hugs to you, Robert, and our "adopted grandkids" - we miss you guys already! Take care...!
  15. Congrats Sue & Bob! Obviously the "thing you were waiting on" before ordering was ok. When does everyone think you'll get your rv and truck? I bet you can't wait, and we hope you love both truck and trailer for many years - can't wait to see them both in TN! Well, we arrived in CO to a snowstorm on last Wednesday, we sat it out in Canon City before heading up to the mountains, had a week of great weather, and here it is Wednesday again, and we got hit with another snow dump. Looks like it might be a snowy winter this year. Sure, wouldn't you know it, we wintered in Canon City last winter to be close to mom and out of the snow - and that year, home only got like 6 inches of the white stuff all year. Here we are home one week and we've already doubled that number - uggghhh! Hope we get tons of stuff sold so we don't have to do this again next winter! Safe travels all!
  16. Sitting in a snow storm in Canon City, CO to take care of the boat (winterizing) and getting the head run on the truck before going home to the mountains for the rest of the winter. Hoping the house sells soon and we can get all our "stuff" sold so we can be foot loose and fancy free soon - living the life on the road. Been snowing all day so far (about 4-6" at this point in time). Hope by the weekend when we get back home that the driveway is clear so we can get everything all set up for the "real winter". You lucky dogs wintering in warm places... One day we'll be doing it too... For those who didn't make the rally, we hope to see you next year in Hutchinson, KS, or at the east coast rally in TN in April... Should be more great fun! Learned a lot and had a great time putting "some" faces to the names here - needless to say, didn't meet everyone yet - but over time... Safe travels all... Sharon
  17. Wow it's been a long time since anyone posted here - hope all are doing well by now! I am new to this section of the HDT area and joined the "gals" at Hutchinson. Wondering if we could make our own section of the forum instead of just one long thread. That way we could have many topics of interest to the gals, broken up by threads as is the general area or the HDT section itself. This is such a long thread, and as Davena stated earlier, it's mostly been about birthdays. So the question would be whether or not topics such as pets, housekeeping, etc should go in the general area, the HDT area (not RDBE), or just get jumbled up in the RDBE section... Just some ponderings from a new gal in the bunch. About me, I rarely drive as we generally are also towing our fishing boat, and it would be pretty ludicrous to put a boat in at the boat ramp with a freight liner! Not to mention how awful a slippery ramp would be for the boat and truck sliding into the lake! So generally I drive the Ford Expedition with boat in tow while hubby has the FL and the 5er - not too many ways around that as long as we want the boat with us... We're not full timing yet, but IF/WHEN the sticks and bricks finally sell - we're chomping at the bit to be full timers. Till then, this winter will be spent in the mountains of Colorado. We have SO much "stuff" to sell so full timing will be more do-able, so we have to (as Roger Williams sang about) "knuckle down, buckle down, do it, do it, do it"! Hoping to get back on the road again EARLY spring though. Anyway, that's my introduction of self to the group - so HELLO group!
  18. Fishing at Lake Powell, Utah. Anyone else here now or coming soon?
  19. Yeah, read that the water is up, but it doesn't seem to be making the fishing crappy - crappie would be best of course Going walleye and crappie hunting. Too bad we just don't have more freezer space for all the fish... But we did get one of those tiny stand alone freezers to put in the basement - that will simply "have to do" for now...
  20. Tomorrow we leave IN headed home to CO for a couple of days, then it's off to Lake Powell (Utah/AZ) for some serious fishing. Anyone here been to Powell? Curious as to the best place for us biggies would be - though I would guess pretty much anywhere since there's not much out there. I know Page, AZ would have more "conveniences" (restaurants, fuel stops, grocery, etc), but Bullfrog marina, UT is pretty much wide open. Guess I need to hit the fishing forums again to see what's the best spot for the fishing, THEN figure out where to sleep! Will we be seeing any of you on the road along the way?
