  1. Davena - where are you - our fearless leader...? Can you "rally the troops" and get this thread rolling? Janet, I'll look into finding more of the recipes that I like - do you already have the info you need on the ones you took at the rally? If not, I'll email you with anything that's missing (that I know anyway). Aggie, nice to take a break every couple hundred miles or so I second what you said about Sue's truck and Kurt with the prayers. Have a great day ladies - hubby comes back home today from his FL visit with his brother. It will be great to have him home again. We "chip" the cats tomorrow, and leave on Thursday for our DRV appointment. Then we'll start heading towards TX for the winter...
  2. Susan, thanks for reminding me - I've been meaning to ask Janet if we're only supposed to send in the recipe that we used for the pot luck, or just any recipes that we like... Sue, I'm anxious to see the new thread about the before, during, and after progress (with pictures of course) on the truck (be sure to use Bob's user name for that thread!). I'm happy you're getting things done. Never been to a truck lighting store - I'm with Susan - might be mental overload for me! OK ALL LADIES - I would like to know how we had SO many in the room and everyone had plenty to say - then we leave the rally, and no one is yacking it up like in the meeting! Is it the lack of the tongue loosening drink - whatever that stuff was (personally, I had lemonade, so I don't know...)?? Let's do the thing that us gals are best known for (other than shopping) - talking! C'mon gals
  3. Hey Jim, we're talking about a possible west coast spring "rally" or "get together" (separate thread) - and Pahrump has been mentioned a time or two. Any chance you could scope it out with the possibility of a place big enough with some sort of meeting room for our functions? Drive safe. Sharon
  4. Sounds like a fun "NH Party"! Good food and good friends, makes the time at the factory much more pleasant. We're at my stepmom's in MO now, and will head to IN for some DRV work next week. I don't think we have any parties lined up though
  5. Sue - Not only are you progressing nicely on the mods for the truck - but you have NINE posts at this time of this message!! SEE, it's not hard, and SO much fun! I'm proud of you for finally jumping in the water on posting, and though I'm sorry you guys had to redo the truck, happy that it's coming along nicely. You'll be more comfortable with it when it's exactly as YOU want it - we all know "if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy"!
  6. Sheri, why were you guys at Spacecraft? Funny - I never knew anything about them, then all of a sudden after the first presentation I heard from them, I end up in their back yard about the same time as several from the HDT group... Drive safe everyone! Sharon
  7. Jack, no offense, but I agree with Davena. If we let you post, then other guys will want to post, and there goes the "gals only" area. The guys have all the forum to play in, let us gals have our area. If you want to chime in - just have Danielle do it... It's not about "speaking the language" - it's about BEING a gal! Vickie - so glad that Kurt is doing so well so soon... Hope his recovery is complete and swift, and he's back to doing all the things he loves to do - and you guys can once again hit the road and be where you won't have snow... Sue - how are the "modifications" coming along? I'm SO relieved that the "lockers" are gone - the disaster could have been catastrophic for you and those behind/beside you at the time! Davena - hope you guys are safely back en route to home base again. Drive safe everyone! Sharon
  8. We just stopped at the rest area in Spacecraft's back yard today. Never knew where they were, and after the pit stop, just before we pull out, I look up and there they are! Before last year's rally, I had never heard of them before. Hope they get everything "tuned up" wonderfully for you. They build a nice rig. Safe travels to all... Sharon
  9. Heidi, it was so funny today... We're traveling from Kansas City where we stayed last night, and stopped at a rest area for a pit stop. Just as we're about to pull back out, I look over and there's Spacecraft - I assume it's the factory building, though we didn't see any rv's. I had no idea where they were (and prior to the rally last year had never even heard of them) - and there they were at our pit stop! I thought of you two when I realized what I was looking at! So Aggie, you have CRS also huh? Well, you're in good company anyway... And Sue - woohoo - look at you with two posts! Addictive huh? I think I tried to get you to believe that LAST year! So happy to see you posting. Don't forget that over in the "general section" (not HDT), you'll find other great topics to chime in on - like "housekeeping" and such. No haven't ordered the flowbee yet - been traveling since Sunday morning. Hoping to get it done this week - then maybe my haircut will be as cute as yours! We're "talking" to the realtor about the "potential buyers" - but so far no great news... I'll post if we get any positive news. Same to you Suzan? Let's BOTH get our homes sold!! Sharon
  10. Woo hoo - Sue and Suzan with your new posts as new names (or in Sue's case - first post ever...)!!! Glad to see you gals getting online to chat. It was a great rally with loads of fun, good food, great friendships, and as icing on the cake - more knowledge. I totally agree with you Suzan - more cross training is necessary here as well. And the tanks are definitely the YUCKY part of it all! Funny, we got 3 hours away from the rally, stop at a truck stop for a Wendy's lunch, and when we come out, Randy, Nancy, & Oscar are parked next to us and just getting out of the truck! Small world huh!? Ok, so you other gals don't forget to weigh in with your answers to the questions: 1. Coolest idea 2. Pearl of info 3. Surprising thing Safe travels ladies! Sharon
  11. Raquel, soon you'll be able to see all of us with our trucks. Not sure when and where the pics of all of us and our "collection" of trucks will be up online, but I'm sure someone will post a link. Kinda nice to be able to put a picture of the people, truck, and user name all in one place. If I remember correctly, we had about 46 rigs/trucks... NICE Christmas present for you both - a new rig AND a new lifestyle change. I know you already know you'll love full timing. Have you already planned your first trip? Susan - I'm hoping and praying you get an offer on your house soon. I am dying to see pics and hear more about the awesome new place! Keep us posted or write me sometime and let's compare house selling notes... What a great rally this was. So much fun reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. Only bad part is there's not enough time to get to know everyone you would like to get to know... But that's what the following year is for - right!? Sharon
  12. CONGRATS!!! I'm sure you are bouncing off the walls... What are you getting? More details so we can be happy with you guys... BTW, for those of us who don't know you - which one of you is which in your avatar? Have a fun weekend, Sharon
  13. So how about a poll of sorts? 1. What was the coolest idea you got from the inside of someone's rig? Don't need to name names, just the idea... 2. What was the best "pearl" of information you got from a seminar? 3. What was the most surprising thing that you learned? For me, it was: 1. One of the guys had a switch INSIDE the rig where he could just hit a button and dump the grey tank (could also be done with the black, but that has the potential for disaster if the switch were hit when the sewer hoses weren't connected!). Website for the switch is drainmaster.com in case this trips anyone's trigger like it did mine... 2. Actually more of a "memory jogger" - in Dale's "What If" class - that we've prepared well, but not well enough. Things we've put off doing are now closer to the top of the "to do" list - partially prepared is only slightly better than not at all - and a long way from the peace of mind that total preparation would allow. 3. Learning that solar for our rig is much more doable for us than hubby has always thought (and told me). For those who weren't here, jump in with ideas of your own if you'd like - ideas are like chocolate - one can NEVER have too much!
  14. I guess all the gals from this group are either on the road to Hutch, or driving somewhere else and not coming to the rally (how's that for profound!?). Hope most are coming - it will be more fun with more Estrogen around! We're traveling with some friends, and we'll be in by tomorrow afternoon. Look forward to meeting more new friends and reconnecting with some we met last year. Drive safe everyone! Sharon
  15. Don - so very sorry for your loss. I lost my mom a year and a half ago, and I still miss her terribly. At least you got to visit with her before she went. My condolences to you and all your family.
  16. Where did everyone go!? No one talking anymore here? Wassup!!?? Thought I'd try again to kick off more conversation by posting a link to this article about flu vaccines. Love em' or hate em' you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to at least read it... http://articles.merc...20918_DNL_art_1 You never know - might just keep you from getting really sick... So is everyone getting ready for the HDT rally? What are all you RDBE gals doing nowadays? This thread has been way too quiet. We've got 10 more days till we have our 1 week visitors here in the "now chilly" Colorado, then we'll head to Hutch. Hope it will be warmer there when we get there! We woke to 35 degrees today! BUT the fall colors are super spectacular this year - and a bit early. Absolutely fantastic photos everywhere! C'mon ladies - let's get this thread hopping! Sharon QUOTE OF THE DAY: A mother is the truest friend we have when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. - Washington Irving, American author, biographer, and historian
  17. Raquel - I think everyone is so programmed from years of this thread being hidden away and not serving much real purpose other than birthdays and such - that it will take a little re-education to get more to use it for other purposes. Davena will likely mention it at the rally, and we'll see a bump in the conversations and use that the thread gets. If all goes well and we start doing more with it, then we can get our own section of the forum - but we have to prove that we would use it enough I'm sure. I just bought hubby a used macbook pro the other day, and I was telling the gal I bought it from that I had to reinstall the OS on my mac, because there was some software issue and it wouldn't boot. I LOVE APPLE! I get on the phone, get an ENGLISH speaking person IN AMERICA, they walk me thru some stuff, the time capsule didn't work originally, so they ok a reinstall on their end. I start the thing, it says 52 hours! to get done, he assures me that it's really more like 1.5 hours normally, so he will have the computer generate a callback and it will be him if he's not on the phone, or someone else if he's busy. Within 10 minutes of the promised call, I get a call from Apple as promised. The reinstall is still going really slow as my internet is not great, so he schedules me for another call in 1.5 hours like before. About half an hour from the call and the computer decides that it's not happy with the reinstall, and starts over - another 52 hours!? (which isn't really that long - it's probably in reality more like 3-4 hours, but still...) - so I decide what the heck, and try the time capsule restore again. It worked! That time capsule is a great thing (something the pc's should try to learn) - so when I get the call back again (on time again), I'm already working on getting my internet settings back. Whenever I've had to call Dell or Sony - forget follow up! Plus I would wait forever on the phone to get a rep, finally get one who spoke a foreign language better than English, they repeated the question a million times, but got extremely little done, and the problem was rarely ever fixed on the phone (in fact, I hung up more than I didn't because I couldn't understand them - they were in India, not the US). I'm not against foreigners in the US and in business here (or there for that matter), but I am against anyone who doesn't have great English being a phone rep! I mean, you're on the phone with a frustrating and confusing computer problem, and in addition to all the things going thru your head, now you have to add a certain amount of "what the heck did he say - or mean"!? I am just SSSSOOOOO impressed with Apple's customer service - this isn't my first time to have them work me thru something on the phone, done it about 3 times now, and each time I say the same thing. If they all could have the customer service that Apple does, they might have a good product. We were saying how we don't ever see ourselves going back to a PC - especially as we get older and problems might get more confusing or difficult to fix/figure out - they do it, and do it well - quickly and easily. Their customer service it (to my way of thinking), the way that all of America USED to be! Hubby is about beside himself to be getting a macbook pro now! Happy days are here again! So there's a long winded use of the forum - to brag on a company that tries to make life easier on some small scale. So what devices or gadgets do you have/use that make life easier for you? Sharon
  18. Well you at least know his first name anyway! Is he part of our group - or will he become one? See, I knew you could do it!!
  19. Novel idea - you could pop over and introduce yourself...
  20. I have an idea for either our RDBE group - or maybe (even more fun) - the whole rally group. It would be a game - kind of like Chinese Christmas (like our bingo game at the ECR rally for those who were there). It would go like this - everyone brings something from their rv that's still a good item ("extra stuff"), but one that they no longer need. No one spends any money at all for the gifts. Not exactly sure how we take it from there, but we get to take the items away from each other like we did at the bingo game. We could draw numbers, play a game, or come up with another plan for why we take each others things away - but that's where the fun is - in the take and retake part! What do you gals think? Kitchen items, decorating items, anything would be acceptable except opened food of course... These kind of gift "games" are an absolute riot of laughing and messing with each other...!
  21. Well what a shame - would have been good to visit with you guys. We've been out for the last 2 weeks plus working hard on selling off a "lifetime" collection of tools, hobbies, household, furniture, etc... HARD work in this stinkin' economy for sure - plus adding the "small town" factor in. Sorry we missed you! This is my first day of "rest" (in quotes because I had so much to play catch up on that it's not really a rest day) since we started the phase we just wrapped up (started that on the 26th of last month). Thanks for working on getting something better for our RDBE group - the sticky will be at least a decent alternative till they can work us something better. I do believe that we'll have a LOT more activity from ladies across the board when we're no longer in the tiny "dark side" section and can be out "in the general population" where we can get more gals involved. Glad it's kinda coming together. Should I have gotten the email from you yet?
  22. So - what was the "suggestion" for the temporary solution? Hope all our gals are having a great summer. We've been busy (well, mostly me, but Richard has pitched in "some") selling, sorting, donating, and otherwise clearing out tons of stuff. More to go still as it's really hard in a tiny town to get it all done quickly. Even donations are kinda challenging when there's only one place to take donations - they only have so much space themselves! So, it's back to work for me. This is NOT my "fun summer" for sure - but next year should be our real "full time/retired/play time" summer! Stay well gals, drive safe, and "stay between the lines" (as Jimmy Buffet says)! Sharon
  23. You are more than welcome Raquel - happy to bring the thread back up to the first page! Davena - thanks for taking up the mission of us getting our own section of the forum. My suggestion would be to have it OUTSIDE the HDT area so that we can pull other ladies in - girly trucks, motorhomes, travel trailers, etc... Maybe a forum header like "Ladies Section (RDBE - "rigs driven by estrogen") - and that would cover those of us who already drive, and perhaps lure others in so we can get them to thinking about at least being able to get their rig off the road in an emergency. Maybe they'll see that we're "fairly normal" ladies, and by getting to know us, the whole concept of safer, bigger trucks - plus driving in general - might not seem so scary once they kinda know us. Whatcha think? Just my thoughts - they happen so rarely, I feel the crying need to share them when they visit!
  24. Where are all our RDBE gals and what's going on? We're all too busy?? I for one am back "home" again to clean out the HUGE storage unit and sell/donate all that's there before mid to late August. Doesn't that just sound like TOO much fun!? So what are you ladies doing this summer? If anyone finds their way up to Buena Vista, CO - where the mountains are HUGE, the temps are cool, the air is dry, and the rafting and fishing are great - please holler and come say hi!
