  1. Wife and I both had Verizon unlimited personal cellphones during our travels.
The phones were different year models and slightly different Android versions.

One phone would get good signal while the other would not in certain areas.
It varied which phone got better signal depending on where we were located.

I hypothesize that signal reception may vary between phone models and operating systems.

Last month, in a remote area of Anza Borrego, my Motorola phone on T-mobile had no signal, while the lady next to me was chatting on her Verizon phone.
This month, while in Tortilla Flats (campground area) my T-mobile phone had poor signal strength and my new Visible (Verizon) phone had no signal at all.  Less than a hundred yards above was a cell phone tower.
(I have two cell phones on two different carriers - wife has since passed.)

My cheapie trade-in phone from Visible service has a 5GB hotspot feature.   At "home" Visible can stream movies without any interruption or quality loss - as does the T-mobile Motorola phone.
Curiously, I have exceeded the 5GB hotspot limit on Visible (currently at 12.8 GB of usage) with no slow-down.

I will begin my northward migration from Arizona to Washington State in a couple of weeks.  The travel route, at times, will be remote and I will see how the two phones and services compare during that trip.

  2. I've been using the Plustek Photo Scanner - ephoto Z300 for a few months now and have done hundreds of photos.

The scanner will also copy documents to a single page PDF or a multipage PDF which has been very helpful and easy to do.            Its faster than the flat bed scanner by far.
I think I like the ease and speed most.

  3. The second listed link to SmartAsset.com has a wealth of information - but the information is segmented and spread over multiple sections.  Try this link instead for a start: https://smartasset.com/taxes/

A few years ago my research showed that it would cost me about $800. more in taxes to live in Arizona than Washington State.  The site does not provide sunny dry days compared to wet, gray soggy days - so there's that omission.

  4. We're looking at "statistics" - and as has been said before "statistics lie".
So don't put your eggs (or faith) all in one basket.

Notably the "Quality of Life" column I found interesting.  Northern states tend to rate higher on "Quality of Life" which, to me, suggests a sampling from younger people - people that are active and enjoy the challenges of weather.

Consider; a person with a low surface to mass ratio (fat) might enjoy cooler and drier weather.
While the slender and older person might (is it safe to say "will") enjoy warmer more humid climates.

Schwab's statistical chart should have stuck with raw tax numbers.

  5. To my knowledge, there was no fee at Schwab.  But then my purchase was far more than 10K.  Management companies often use Schwab or others to make purchases from brokers.  AUM (Assets Under Management) have a fee but CD's and Tbills are not included in AUM to my knowledge.  Thus, probably, the $10 charge is a handling fee which could be expected from hired management.

  6. An example of small, tiny, tiny achievements turning into gigantic success stories is the Haber-Bosch process.

    Quote

They demonstrated their process in the summer of 1909 by producing ammonia from air, drop by drop, at the rate of about 125 mL (4 US fl oz) per hour.

This led to the food on our table today (and a world population of 8 billion people).
Small but significant achievements are notable for that reason.

Why would I want inferior resolution to what I already have?
I don't know.  But for me it might be far more  $$ expensive $$  - I would then need to purchase an upgraded big screen TV.  And I don't know if my cell phone hotspot is capable of carrying 4K resolution for streaming.

Have you gone and looked closely at the Lenovo screen at BestBuy?
No, not yet. Maybe later today.

Why would I buy inferior specs for screen/mobo and graphics?
I don't know.  You have inferior vision and don't need the graphics?

For those who don’t understand HD/FHD/QHD/4k resolutions here is a short article that explains them each: https://www.t3.com/features/wqhd-qhd-2k-4k-and-uhd-whats-the-difference
    That's good information.  Thanks.

So they're charging you $2000++ for labor? Glad I did my own. 2 Jeep Liberty's, 2 Chevy trucks, 1 Tahoe, 1 Lexus. Not a difficult job if you're handy.

I did a complete tow package install on my Rubicon.  Proportional braking system, baseplate, wiring harness, etc. etc. and it was a lot of work.  I estimated my labor charge would have been $1000. (9 years ago).
I guess I work for cheap.

  9. I've visited the Jeep Wrangler forum quite a bit and never saw death wobble as a problem like you describe.
I think most (or at least "many") Jeep owner add lift kits and over-sized tires.  There-in could lie alignment problems.
My Jeep Rubicon has both, lift and tires, but never a death wobble.  And I've towed it many thousands of miles.

And I've run with an off-road Wranglers group down super washboard roads at speed - enough to beat the living daylights out of the Jeep.  Still no death wobble.

That said, the Wrangler is not my favorite for comfort.  I've been looking at the Jeep Trailhawk with Active Drive II which allows for flat towing - and it has more of a town-car comfort.  If you're not planning on hard core off roading, then you might take a look at the Trailhawk.

  10. Mexico has speed bumps everywhere.  "Topes" as they are called.
Plus, roads are terribly potholed.  He probably damage the truck by hitting topes and potholes.

Or maybe he's used the truck for his 5th wheel.  Does he have a 5-th wheel modification on the truck?

Plus, he's an insurance agent.  Does one suppose that he knows how to work the system?

Bye the way, rear axle ratings by the truck manufacturer are around 9,000 pounds.
The axle manufacturer rates them at 11,000 pounds.
The truck manufacturer de-rates the axle so that does not exceed the tire load capacity.

Normally, the tire or wheel will fail when overloaded.

  11. $200.  This one:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZJH63M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

It scans up to an 8 x 10
    It scans legal size documents.
It saves to JPG or PDF
It's quick and it doesn't bind.

The only down side is that it doesn't come with a dust cover and it takes up space when not in use.
We accumulated huge binder photo albums and I'm quickly reducing their size and weight.
So, the purchase was probably a good buy.
You might check the Amazon Warehouse or Outlet for a better price deal.
