  1. I've looked into dental plans over the years and found that it was always cheaper to simply pay out of pocket when/if needed.
That said, I prefer my dentist and oral surgeon in Los Algodones, MX - we've had extensive high quality work done there at far below US prices.  It's worth the trip and the time to find a good Mexican dental office.

  2. Before purchasing an extended service plan of any kind, take time to read the exclusions in the fine print.
This year I'm dropping the regular GS Roadside Assistance plan - $150. / year and I've never used it in over ten years.

Instead, I called my insurance agent and for $8.00 year and added roadside assistance to my auto insurance.
(And discussed in detail the need for a flat-bed tow truck to handle the truck/camper combination.)

  3. I too had several N95 masks in my workshop.  They used to have cheap rubber bands that would break in short order.  So I always had a few extras on hand.  They were cheap.

Cost:  Long before the last full solar eclipse i bought a dozen pair of plastic solar viewers glasses for about $10 bucks (rated for sun viewing).  A year later just before the eclipse they were selling for $15. dollars each and had a "special" rating.

Amazon doesn't even carry the N95 now.

  4. I think you could go more than a week based on your description.
We have a truck camper (about 45 gallons fresh) and are good for an easy five days with both of us taking a shower every day.
Whenever available, we will use campground toilets and sometimes their showers if available and really clean.

  5. The most important scientific way to use Facebook is to join groups - but not follow them.

Groups specific to YOUR interests.  Interests such as cancer treatments, finding a handyman at your out-of-state property, learning about your new camera, geo-caching, etc. etc.

Join the group, but un-follow the group.
That allows one to have choice - and ignore the surface feed - go straight to the group(s) of your choosing.

Search a group: this is a Facebook function worth learning.
Your question may have already been asked in the group - use search to find out.

  6. If you like the Aeropress but miss your Keurig, then try this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GQE9MI4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And if American coffee is too bitter and you like the European or SE Asian coffee with crema then try this:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YBTVVD5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The second one requires electric power, the first only hot water.
As for the Nespresso, they sometimes are on sale for much less.  Amazon is pretty expensive at times.

This is the nature or article writing today.  It started about five or ten years ago when writing for the internet could make some serious money.  Now, the serious money has probably diminished and feature stories are rife with top, worst, best, etc. etc. stories.  RV life style is just another "attract eyeballs" story.

  8. My feeling is that the Wile E Coyote stock market has run off a cliff and is now temporarily suspended in mid air.
The Fed can print money to inflate prices, (and to keep the stock market up) or so it seems.  The .06% interest rate would indicate "deflation".
If you remember the days of 10+% CD rates - that was inflation.
    Now, I'm not so sure. . .

As for the RMD - I'm in a somewhat unique situation - and will not take the RMD this year on the chance that the market will ratchet up a little more.
(Unique: an IRA inside a variable annuity that is tied to the stock market value with an annual "locked in" upside and no downside)

Compare  this to sex with questioning if you should wear a condom. If you want to reduce your chances of contracting venereal diseases or become a parent, WHERE A CONDOM.  If you want to reduce your risk of getting Covid 19, WHERE A MASK. Why over think what makes sense?

    Precisely.
And today the CDC reverses itself again -

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says the coronavirus “does not spread easily” through touching surfaces or objects.

That is an interesting comment, as the following comes from the CDC website.`

    If you recall, the CDC did NOT recommend masks.  My post was meant as sarcasm as to how things change.  Sorry, did not mean to bait anyone;

The new guidance, announced Friday, is a reversal from previous CDC recommendations that face masks need to be worn only by people who are sick with COVID-19. . . .

  11. Gloves:  The white cotton archival type.
You assume the latex gloves of course - sorry for not explaining.

The gloves help remind me to not touch my face.
I don't want to skin touch surfaces in public.
My hands always have minute open cuts (learned by immersion in dichroic fog film development)

Cotton gloves get tossed in the wash.
After removing gloves, hand sanitizer is used.
Then hand washing upon arriving home.

    Your protocol may vary.
And remember, the CDC said the use of masks was not a good idea.

  12. I had to bee-line it from AZ to WA and took I10 to Hwy 5 and found the freeway road surfaces very rough in Southern California - beat.
Hwy 99 north to Hwy 5 was smooth sailing though.
I used rest stops to overnight.  And drove 500 miles per day.
    'Twas not a pleasant journey.

Hwy 95 is pretty desolate in places.  Make sure your rig is in good mechanical condition.
I've seen an occasional Nevada highway patrol car on 95 - I think that they cruise it a couple times a day looking for stranded motorists.
Watch the temperatures. . .I've never driven it this late in the year - you might see some extremes.

I think it is a good suggestion to walk through just to get a feel of the floor plan, but I feel dishonest going to the dealerships when I know I will not buy? Maybe I need to get over that...

Yes, you need to get over that.
Seeing different floor plans is extremely important.  If you find the right floor plan, you will love your camper for a long time.
You are in "education mode" right now.  Don't call dealerships - instead simply visit them to learn - see what's available.

First, make a visit.  Think about what you learn from the visit.  Then re-visit and revisit again.
It is the sales person's job to educate and sell - understand their job and try to understand your sales "person" you visit with.

Some salespeople are great people - they don't care if you buy or not - some sales people have the "passion" for camping and will love to educate you.
You're problem is that you don't even know what questions to ask.

A good sales person will realize your knowledge level and walk you through everything with patience.  If they don't do that, then you don't want them.

It took my wife and I five years of "looking" to finally see a camper (a motorhome) with a layout that we liked (we didn't buy it either).  And we looked at a LOT of campers and talked to a lot of sales people.
But at least we know what we want exists.  Don't rush yourself.

The money: at some point you might want to learn about financing.
Even if you don't want financing - it is worth learning about.  Education is everything.

You've put one foot forward - in the educational process.
Good work.  Keep it up, check back often.

In my opinion, you are the ideal candidate for a Casita, Scamp, or something similar in size.  Your truck would easily tow a 17' Casita.  It would be a tremendous step up from tent camping.

Challenge will be finding one of those small fiberglass trailers in good condition for $10K.  A more reasonable number would be $15K.

    Good luck with your search.

That was exactly my first thought.  Casita or Scamp - both have good reputations but can be hard to find used.
Facebook: has "Facebook Marketplace" and is a source for local sales - it can be wonderful - some people don't trust craigslist because of the scammers and prefer to stay "local" in their shopping.
Best of luck to you in your shopping. . .
