  1. I second what LindaH and 2gypsies posted. Taking your time is a big priority. We did it in 2014 with our dually crew cab and 40' fiver. Unfortunately, that summer, the weather sucked. Another thing I highly recommend is traveling by yourselves. Traveling with another couple or couples, someone always gets screwed. Just my opinion.

  2. Dutch12078, they open the bleed screw when beginning filling and when the spitting starts, shut the screw and pump off. If a #20 cylinder is empty, it usually cuts off at 4.3. A #30 usually shuts off at 6.9. Both depending on weather and temps. Of course, the pump is stickered by the county for accuracy. just pumps like at service stations. I just got propane yesterday, and the owner now has a cage there with 20, 30, and 40 pounders in it for exchange. I don't know if this still true but a number of years ago propane regulations etc. in Texas were controlled by the Railroad Commision. I knew immediately why the differences from other states.

  3. Here in the Yuma, AZ. area propane is pumped by the gallon meter. Haven't seen scales for years. And gallon price must be posted just like gas stations. Also, new portable tanks are now dated for 10 years, look at the stamping on the collars. Another thing to take into consideration, Canada does not accept our recertification, if you may be going to Alaska.

  4. We have left Myrtle Beach twice during September. Both times were under "voluntary evacuation". After that comes "mandatory evacuation". Don't know about other areas along the coast but at MB, under the voluntary deal, you simply drove out like you would normally leave. Had some friends from St. Louis are that fooled around and ended up leaving under the mandatory evacuation. Huge cluster! Took 12 hours to get from N. Myrtle Beach to Camping World on US 501. A very short distance. Spent the night there. Then they continued on towards I-95, restaurants were stripped out of food etc. They said, "never again". Wind, rising tides, and hurricane warnings don't mesh well with RVs in my opinion.

  5. I do what Ray,IN does. But if the doors are heavy there is another way to repair it. Remove the screw and use a "T-Nut" inside the cabinet face frame. The "T-Nut" will say what size to drill the hole and then simply use a machine screw to match the threads on the "T-Nut". Avaiable at hardware stores and come in multiple sizes.

  6. We have a 2004 39' Alfa triple axel fiver bought new. At 18 months old had a tire come apart and I can't remember the brand. But after the RV forums and talking to other fiver owners Michelin XPS Ribs were highly recommended. Have used them ever since and had no problems including going to Alaska. The fiver is the only vehicle I use Michelins on as I'm not a fan of the brand.
