  1. You will be surprised at how easy a car tows behind a motorhome.  You won't even know it's there.  Same goes for hooking it up - very easy.  At first, make yourself an index card with the hooking up steps and keep it in your car to use every time you do so until you're confident in remembering the steps... or ... always use it just to be sure.  Just like everything - the more you do it the easier it becomes.  We could not imagine RVing without having a vehicle to get around. Much less worry about traffic, parking, siteseeing ease, etc.  You'll love it!

  2. Specific large groups at Quartzsite during the RV Show the last 2 weeks of January would be your best bet for what you want:  meeting up with old friends,  new meetings, daily life, activities.

I'd recommend the very active Escapees Boomers group who have a gathering of 100+ at Quartzsite

or the Escapees Xscapers group which will be at Quartzsite & also Lake Havasu Citys.  You could also add a different dimension to this full-timing group as many of them work while traveling.

  3. We are very familiar with Tucson.  I'd recommend mid to the end of April for your visit.

Other than saguaros, the desert is in full bloom from February to late April - some things begin even earlier and last later.  You'll want to see other things in bloom, also.

If saguaros are on your bucket list they 'usually'  bloom the last 2 weeks of April until July.  It depends on winter rains or freezes.  So far, Tucson has had nice rains, including today.

They don't burst into bloom all at once.  They open a few at a time and only last a day or two.  I think you'll be surprised by the size of the bloom.  They aren't as large as pictures sometimes show.  However, a bunch opening around the same time is gorgeous.  It's a beautiful sight whenever you can see them bloom.  Tour both areas of Saguaro Nat'l Park - east and west.  The terrain looks completely different.  Hiking is awesome!  Note... there's no camping in either section of the park.  Catalina State Park would be a great place to stay or Tucson Mtn. Park right next to Saguaro West.

You will encounter warmth the last 2 weeks of April but it's 'dry heat' 😄 so not as noticeable as being in a humid area.... really.   May temps begin to rise. I wouldn't recommend visiting beyond the middle of May.  May & June are the hottest before the summer monsoon rains begin in July.  The Sonoran Desert is beautiful!

Not south but this year we are trying Oak Alley RV Resort in Webster Fl. it is really in the middle of nowhere, but the place is extremely nice, not that old and was built correctly. They have a pool and hot tub,12 pickleball courts and a pro here for lessons(free), lots of activities and free Wi-Fi at your site with a provided router that they install, and it is included in your site rental. About an hour drive to Tampa and Orlando, our fee this year was $1050 a month for site rental with all utilities and Wi-Fi.

I'm a avid pickleball player and I'm surprised they put the courts right in the middle of RV sites.  The constant ball/paddle noise wouldn't be good for us.  Keep that in mind when choosing sites.

When I click on the little box of what might be a picture, a window pops up, with the little arrows off to the side to advance the slide show.  Clicking said arrow brings the awning pics up.

I see them on all the posts.  All you have to do is double click.

Agents are salespeople. Are you familiar with the often quoted statement here that "If a salesperson's lips are moving..."

Friends had an insurance agent assure them that changing the location of their health insurance would not change their coverage. But they were denied coverage under a pre-existing condition clause because not enough time had passed since they got the "new" coverage. Funny how it was not the agent that paid those medical bills.

    Linda

.... but the agent stated "changing the location".  The problem was "pre-existing condition clause".

We're on our second Arctic Fox and we've just begun planning for our retirement with our third, and final, fifth wheel.  I approached AF for the build and unfortunately, they couldn't see fit to include the floor design we requested.  That's the ONLY reason why we had to take a pass on this purchase.

Are you saying you wanted to design your own?

  8. I would highly recommend window awnings.  We used them all the time.  You can see out of them and at a distance just fine.  We had double pane.  They also help when it rains to let you open the window, if you want fresh air. They are so easy to put in or out... seconds.  For the big windshield we had a solar screen that attached on the outside thereby blocking the sun or cold before it hit the window.  We could see out just fine.

  9. Scroll down this site a little to 'Key Findings'.  Where you are now - Galveston - is high on crime.  Pick any place in the U.S. and it has crime.  How many stories have you read of border crossers committing crime?  They didn't travel all that way to commit crimes.  You're probably safer along the border than in any big city.

You mentioned Big Bend - it's safe.  We've been there many times. Excellent hiking. It's a national park and has federal officers manning it.   Nearby Lajitas and Terlingua are popular places to stay, also.

I'd recommend a stop at Fort Davis State Park - neat area.  Take a tour of the observatory!

Have a good trip and put faith in mankind!
