  1. Cause it can't be registered as an RV in Florida, and the insurance companies don't seem to care what it's registered as.
  2. They said no bobtail.
  3. I like it. Might be the way to go.
  4. I'll have to give them a call.
  5. So, background - I'm currently a resident of Florida, and we can't register HDT's as RV's here. Truck I have been pursuing is a 2001 Volvo 660, converted/singled/currently titled as motorhome in Ky. Can only register in Florida as a truck for personal use. Also explored registering truck in South Dakota with a few insurance companies. Have talked to Miller, FCIS, Good Sam, Dougherty and Associates, and several others in my quest to get insurance. I'd prefer to get insurance that allows bobtail use, and thought I had that solved thru Good Sam/National General. Until I actually called to start the policy earlier this month, only to be told that National General would not give more than liability coverage to a truck over 20 years old. In December, I could have got the policy, but not now. And the coverage would not have been renewable. Back to the drawing board - all other companies want to do the typical insurance that covers the truck when towing the fifth wheel, but no bobtail for anything other than maintenance/gas. A couple companies offered Commercial for personal use, but the cost is quite a bit higher - over $2k/year. I've also been told that if I had a commercial policy on other vehicles, it would be easy/cheap to add a personal use policy. I'd be ok with liability + comprehensive coverage I think, but not just liability. Too many things that can go wrong. So, it seems that either I find a newer truck, or I just accept that I can't drive bobtail with this truck. You guys that have bobtail coverage, I'm jealous! I can't seem to get it done, and I'm tired of talking to insurance agents.
  6. It was fairly new, running Rotella 15-40. I have a couple more, older samples to run. They were delayed by the post office a month.
  7. Thanks for the insight. I'll compare the two samples, they were taken a few thousand miles and a trip to pick up a boat apart.
  8. LOL... That's what I thought as well.
  9. Flirting with buying a truck, and got an initial oil analysis on it from the owner. I have been looking at this truck for a while, and I have another sample from a couple months ago to send in for analysis as well - would have had them both done at the same time, but good old USPS lost one package for a month. Anyway, is there any concern here? Click For Full-Size Image.
  10. Isn't he more concerned about the weight capacity vice chucking? I may be looking for a heavier duty one in the near future as well.
  11. The post about the two Volvos.
  12. Retired from the Navy in 2011, only did 20 years. The practice wife gets half the retirement, so no incentive to do 30. I'll swing by when I visit. Thanks!
  13. Sounds good. Your rig is the one on my thread in the Facebook group, isn't it?

  15. I can't attend the rally due to other commitments, but will be close enough to visit. I'd like to check out some trucks, as I'm considering buying on to replace the F350. Do I need to buy tickets, or just show up? Anyone interested in showing off their truck?
  16. I bought one of these after I had a wheel bearing cost me the spindle on my old axle. Was due to poor maintenance. This axle is solid and over engineered for the rating he gives it. I've got about 15k trouble free miles with it, and I have about 900 pounds on the axle, give or take, depending on the day. https://axlesandmorebyjoellc.com/
  17. I'm interested in purchasing a late model version, probably the 41GKE. If anyone knows of one for sale, or has one for sale, please let me know. I've spent many house scouring the net for one, but have only come across one out in California. Would prefer to not have to travel across the whole country!
