  1. We have guests here with their Class C RV. Nice unit but......the fuel nozzle is the small one found at the auto-diesel pumps. They cannot use the truck lanes with the larger nozzle. This came out in a conversation about TSD Logistics. The program would be of no use to them as they cannot use the truck lanes. So we talked about a conversion or adapter. Anyone have any experience or insight into the feasibility?

    Thanks, Friz

Incorrect.  Pilot/Flying J (first party) notified TSD (second party) that they were in violation of their agreement.  The discount agreement was for TSD fleet purchases but in Pilot's opinion TSD was reselling the fuel to a third party (RVers).

Good Sam and Marcus Lemonis had nothing to do with the decision.

TSD has warned card holders to have no communication with the suppliers that are giving discounts out of fear of losing more contracts.

Edit to add; this information was from the TSD Facebook page which I have followed for a long time.

If you read it on facebook it must be true. Apologize for besmirching Marcus et al. Oh, almost forgot, my info also comes from facebook.

  3. TSD Logistics for diesel fuel as discussed. Hands down the best program out there. 100% legitimate. That is not an eye opener? um.  Recent development: Our good pal Marcus has forced Pilot/Flying J to drop TSD Logistics. Apparently the paltry Good Sam discount could not compete with TSD Logistics. Marcus' contract with Pilot.Flying J has an "exclusivity" clause which pal Marcus enforced. Another reason I see GS going down the crapper.  The old gray mare just ain't what she used to be. Shame.

  4. 0% interest? That is strange. You would think that someone who lent you money at 0% interest would encourage early payoff.

Auto pay - no no. Actually it is auto access to your bank account. You may believe you are giving the vendor permission to withdraw a set amount from your bank account but actually you are giving them an open door to withdraw whatever amount they please. Normally not an issue but if there are objectionable charges you pay first then try to recoup your money.

  5. First time out ours overheated after about 30 minutes and stopped.  It ran fine when sitting on the driveway. When I realized what had happened, I had it all the way forward in the truck bed up against the box wall, I moved it back to the hitch and it ran fine. Even considered plugging a 20" box fan into it to increase air circulation but have not had to yet.

How did you NOT know it would cost money to move a house with a truck down the road?  I'm not trying to antagonize you, but didn't you do some preliminary estimates on what your fuel mileage would be pulling the 5er?  Did you not look at the total distance you were going to go and have a rough idea of how much fuel you would need?    When we are in 'travel' mode (going from point A to point B with only overnight stops) we know that every other day we will need to stop for fuel (we get 8.75 mpg for the motorhome) as we never like to get much below 1/2 full on our fuel tank (100 gallon tank), or somewhere between 45-50 gallons at each fill-up.  I know that is going to happen and have planned accordingly.   And I also know that when we are doing are typical 2 weeks, then move to next area we explore for 2 weeks, that we will fill only once a month because each move will be 200 miles or so.   In  the summers that we spend in Washington state, it is not uncommon for us to go 6-8 weeks between fill ups because we only move 50-75 miles to the next area with the rig.  Now the toad will get much more use running around as we visit family and explore an area, but at 45 mpg that's easier to handle.

Overnight stops we try and use Passport America parks.   For longer stays (especially on the west coast) we use membership parks.

Remember, full timers aren't in vacation mode, they are living a life, just changing where they sleep every few weeks.

Well, I am not sure "How did I not know?" Per chance I am just not as sharp as you two. Please do NOT be so condescending. If I may restate my observation, why is fuel such a large percentage of cost? I researched a bit and found that diesel cost no more than $1 to $1.50 when we quit camping say 2005. That would be a 200% -300% increase. May possibly have something to do with my perception.

  7. This is not a question, more of an observation. Please feel free to comment. After maybe a 12 year hiatus from camping we bought a 5th wheel last fall. Prepping and planning we took of on a 2 month trip this June. We were headed from north central Florida to northern Michigan. The first 1400 miles were a straight shot, no sightseeing. I had not anticipated how much the cost of fuel would be. How naive. At maybe 10 mpg It would cost us about $70 to drive 250 miles. This was a daily expense when traveling. We extensively used Boondockers Welcome. If not available, campgrounds could be readily found for $30 - $40. As it was, in two months we put about 8K miles on the truck an close to $6K on the credit card. I have not actually crunched the numbers but guessing at least $2500 was the cost of fuel. Is this a fact of life? Do you people live with it? Thanks for listening.

That would depend on the weight on each tire. An over inflated tire will wear the center of the tread out faster than the rest, even if it isn't too high pressure for the sidewalls.

Okay, have heard about the center wear problem on over inflated tires. If the side of a tire says 85 psi max, how do you call it "over inflated" or "too high pressure at 85 psi?

  9. I inflate my truck and camper tires to the max psi on the side of the tire. I recall people stating that max inflation makes for a harder/rougher ride. If it does I have not found the ride uncomfortable in the least. So, forgetting about  the comfort issue,  what do you think are the consequences of max inflation? I suppose I am suggesting the OP inflate tires to max and be done with it.

    Howdy!

This post has really dang near gone viral about me simply legally purchasing a hand gun at Camping World/Gander. Just to set the record straight and set some people at ease, I’m a military veteran, retired Police Officer and buy the way a patriot. I don’t have a concealed carry permit but I do have Federal and State credentials to carry under LEOSA “Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act”. That requires me to qualify each and every year with my firearms to maintain those. Even so I still have to go through a background check when purchasing a firearm. So everyone fell safe I have not purchased any firearms illegally and I have passed the mandated Federal background check to do so.

No need to get your dander up. In your post you did not mention background check or CCW permit. You got my hopes up! I thought maybe there was a state or place which had not restricted  "the right of the people to keep and arms shall not be infringed".

The OP never said there was no background check done.

In FL, if you have a CCW permit, there is no waiting period as long as the NICS comes back good.

and he never said there was a background check. He did not use the words background check or CCW permit. That is what caught my eye. In Florida there is a 3 day waiting period without a CCW permit while they do a background check. Actually the 3 day wait is a knee jerk legislative reaction to the Parkland High School murders.

I went to Camping World today to pickup a propane door latch for my 5er. When I was checking out I asked the check where the Rv’s Where they use to have inside. He told all the RVs are outside. He then told me one side is CW and now the other side is Gander. So I wandered over to the Gander side and they had quite a large display of firearms. The new Sig P365XL caught my eye and seeing that it was on sale I walked out with a new pistol also.

Per chanced, what State is that which has no waiting period/ background check for handguns at a licensed dealer?

My wife and I are considering buying a fifth wheel in Texas and then transporting it cross border into Mexico to the Lake Chappla region, anything that anybody would know about this subject would be appreciated.

My parents built a home there in the village of Ajijic decades ago. I went back there maybe 15 years ago to help settle the estate of an uncle (American). I stayed at the Posada in Ajijic. Still charming and gracious but the lake had receded by at least a quarter. The water was several hundred yards out from where it had been. Too many people using the lake. Also, Mexico is not the sleepy, laid back country it once was. The growth industry may well be kidnapping. It is also a country where "el mordio" is how official business is conducted. I would not recommend living there or even visiting.

There's nothing wrong with using your phone as a hotspot, it's all about the plan you have to do it under.  Most smartphone plans limit the amount of 4G/LTE data per month for hotspot usage.  When that is exceeded the speed of the connection drops significantly.

As for Consumer Cellular, it's primarily a service marketed to people who don't expect to use much data. It's largest monthly plan is 20GB and if you exceed that your speed drops and you are charged $5/GB for the excess.  Furthermore, if you use more than 30GB in a month you may be shut down until the next billing period.  The attached screenshot is from the Consumer Cellular website.  IMHO if you're planning to use a significant amount of data you should change carriers.

I see you edited your response a few hours ago so I have a question. Changing carriers is pretty much a non-starter. At home, Consumer Cellular "suits my style". Last time we were RVing, the internet was not a real RV interest. I realize that we now have  more things we cannot live without. As you look to be savvy about Rving and the internet, please help me out. If I use the internet for 1 hour/day, no video streaming, what would you estimate my daily data usage be?  A nominal 31 day billing period would afford me 645 megabytes/day. In response to your last sentence, no I do not plan to use a significant amount of data. Once again, I estimate 1 hour/day.

It would be a big impact when selling. not to have a generator especially in a Class B where you'd really not have the room to carry a portable generator.   If not using the generator it should at least be 'exercised' under load once a month for an hour or two.

We had a generator but rarely used it because we loved solar instead and used solar 95% of our 16 years of traveling.  Therefore, we 'exercised' it consistently so that it was workable when sold.  We rarely had hookups.  Everyone RVs differently.

Since I gave a legitimate answer to the OP's question I will engage in a little thread drift. Did you run you 40' RV on solar? That seems like it would take a rather large array for AC, microwave etc. Also, what size battery bank did you have? Seriously interested.

How much of an impact will it be if we possibly sell the vehicle WITHOUT a generator?

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

    Thank you.

If it is original equipment I would say "yes" although as to how much of an impact I don't know. When you use Kelly Blue Book or the other service to establish a selling price, accessories are gone though and add or subtract from the price. Don't know but I would expect the same service is available for RVs. Selling an RV with an installed, non-functioning generator would be a problem for me as a buyer. I recently hosted a couple (Boondockers Welcome), class B sans installed generator. They did have a whisper quiet 3500w inverter generator that was stowed in one of the compartments. It cost them $700. I forget the name at the moment. If/when I remember I will post it. He also told me it would run up to 11 hours per tank of fuel depending on load.

Based on my training and experience (retired LEO, part of which was a K-9 handler), I would have to be around you and your dogs for awhile to make a judgement call.

If you have been through several weeks of formal training with each of them and they are from a really good blood line, then maybe it wouldn't be a problem for them to be living in close proximity to a changing mix of people/children/pets.

However, what I have generally witnessed in our travels is that 90% of dog owners think of their canines as children and have never went through formal classes with them.  Most think that if they can train their dog to crap outside the RV they have a well trained animal.

If you are one of the 10% then it would not worry me for you to be my camping neighbor.  Ask yourself this.  Could you walk your dog through a campground and when he shows interest or aggression use a simple command to stop the behavior?  If he barks at someone or something can you command him to stop and he complies.  If you throw a ball/toy for him to fetch and half way there can you command him to stop and come back to you?  Is he always social toward other dogs?

I believe you may be stereotyping yourself as,  please excuse the pointed phrase, a control freak. Also feeds a common (I hope) misconception about police. If your statistic is anywhere near accurate, I am happy to hear that 90% of dog owners see them as family and not animals to be subjected to abject domination and control. The industrial revolution pretty much put an end to that. At least in our part of the world.  I respectfully suggest you keep your dog on a leash in public and don't play fetch on I-75.

You are right about Consumer Cellular. I have a 2G plan and rarely exceed 1G per month. I guess I will have to try and see how much data I use on a daily basis while on the road. I am reluctant to start another phone service. There would normally be no streaming but trip planning, email and banking.  Can't think of anything else at the moment. Outside of public WiFi I don't know of how else to get WiFi Have read public WiFi can be dangerous and slow.  Do you use it? So with the stated usage do you think 20G would be enough?

What make and year is your truck? Both my 2012 Ford and previous 2013 GMC can/could handle the larger truck nozzles without a problem.

2004 F250. A response on another forum said that Fords after 2003 can take the larger nozzle. Will see if it is true next time I fuel up.
