  1. Our 28' 2004 Keystone Cougar has been sitting since the Fall of 2019, unused and for the most part shut down. Our son and family are visiting for the holidays. The 5th wheel would be perfect for them and pets for 2 weeks. So, time to wake up 5th Wheel! The AC works fine. Water pump/plumbing is leaking. I will look at that today. There are 3 110vac outlets in the kitchen. 1 is a GFI outlet. So the GFI may have gone bad as it does not TEST/RESET. Would the GFI outlet also control the other 2 outlets? There are other 110vac outlets throughout the 5th wheel which have power.

  2. Have not been there since maybe summer 1979. As I recall one could drive into any campground and find a site without a reservation. At least I recall that is what we did. A group of sailors on liberty from Mare Island NS with a pop up camper from MWR stayed at a campground in the valley. Swimming in the Toulomne  River was great. Very cold, crystal clear and boulders everywhere. I have heard that in the following years it has become a parking lot. Recall a few years ago reading about the vehicle smog in the valley. How true Robert Blake, "You can never go home".

Maxxis, is a proven good brand for ST(Special Trailer) tires.

There is only 1 Special Trailer tire that is manufactured in America - The Goodyear Endurance Model. (Tire Sizes/Specifications for Endurance) It is brand new and just recently released. It is speed rated at 87 mph.

I am so smart. I bought 4 Maxis in 2019 and none have ever been found flat on the bottom. Please excuse, yes, Maxis are dependable tires. I, as I am sure others did, a bit of research before buying.

If you've got a Ram you can likely meet weight limits for GCVWR if you're careful. We pulled with a Ram 1 ton diesel dually long bed. We pulled a 36 foot HitchHiker and for seven years did everything West of the Mississippi and from Mexico up to and including a season in Alaska. While you are shopping check out the price of windshield wipers, motor home size tires, oil changes, and then find the fuel mileage for a motor home 5-7 mpg versus 11-13 mpg realistically pulling a load for the Ram. What year and engine is your Ram? We had a Sunnybrook 28.5 fiver that we could easily have fulltimed in for our seven years before we came off the road to care for aging. And remember Class A slab sided motor homes are not crash tested to protect the occupants. in a wreck the fiver drivers are safe in their truck, not in a flying debris field of cabinets, TVs, anything in the closets. Read a lot here:  Motor home crashworthiness https://rv.org/blogs/news/about-reliability-and-structural-integrity

If you are budgeting the cost differences and having proven passenger and driver steel protection all around the holds together as long as you are belted in is important to us.

As well if the fiver has to be repaired you can stay with it. But if the truck needs service or overnight repairs the fiver can be parked without breaking camp.

While you can back a MH with a toad but not far and damage likely. If I made a wrong turn I could back out immediately. I drove that long diesel to work my last year active duty. My 5'1" wife loved driving it too. When we came off the road after 7 years she drove it as her work truck flipping houses and doing interior trim on new construction. I had a long bed 2500 Ram diesel too for my use and towing our part time fivers.

That is my favorite type and my reasons why. YMMV

    Safe Travels!

Were did you find that wife? Mine refuses to drive our F-250.

Thanks for the responses. I threw the question here quickly at lunch time. I already have a 3/4 ton RAM cummins. Wife likes the motor-home, but I am the  one that would be maintaining the engines. We are planning for retirement and at least a year of full time RV living/traveling. My point of view is with a motor home, I have to maintain 2 engines and if it is a diesel pusher, I hear costs if its a major issue can be costly plus if engine work is needed, we need to find a hotel vs. a 5thwheel. If we go motor home, I would at least like a class C diesel because the engine is much easier to access.

Any comments based on this info?

Just got around to reading the Weekend Moderators. Pretty sorry. Possibly reading comprehension is not your forte. I am sorry but I need to do nothing as directed by you. You failed to defend or explain your, what I find, uninformed comment "let's run him out of business" It was a bad idea. No compassion for the employees.  Still is and remains short sighted self righteousness. Instead of defending or explaining your comment you chose instead to attempt to discredit me on very dubious and obscure grounds unrelated to your point - let's run him out of business! Almost 4 months since your last. I am pretty sure why I have not read it before. I believe I have had my fill of Weekend Moderators. Happy trails!

In the past 10 years we have bought 3 cars in TX while being registered as SD residents.  The results have been mixed.

Car #1--After 60 days of asking the dealer about the status of my registration, they were forced to issue me another set of temporary tags.  I eventually had my SD mail service person walk over to the County office and get things straightened out; including adding a necessary ~$100 to the check that the dealership had written to the State revenue office.

Car #2--Bought another vehicle from the same dealership as #1; told the dealership that I wanted  them to give me the titling package so I could send it directly to "our person" in SD.  Had my registration materials back in a week.

Car #3--Bought from a different dealership this past August;  I tried to get them to release the package but they refused.  The dealership started the transaction by sending the payoff check for my trade-in to the wrong financial institution! 😁  The SD revenue office then returned the package to the dealership because of a wording problem relative to SD law.   At the 7 week point I got a call from County staff letting me know they had received my package and that there was a ~weeklong backlog and that I might want to get my mail service to hand carry it through the process.  At that point I did get my SD mail service engaged but, fortunately, after having repeatedly bugged the dealership's GM about the problem, a person on his staff finally stepped up to the challenge and got the matter resolved on the 57th day of my temporary tags!  Of course, the County staff managed to make matters even worse by sending the registration card without the necessary stickers to put on my license plates!

I'm glad others have done this so easily.  Looking back at these episodes they now appear comic but they were somewhat aggravating at the time!  😂

Based on your related vehicle buying issues (3) I will probably not be asking you about a hot stock pick. Anyhow, my experience has been to the contrary. We bought a 5th wheel in TN and towed it home to FL. Private seller signed the title, gave me a Bill of Sale (which no one ever asked for), took it to the Dept of Revenue, got a temp tag and towed it home to FL. Easy peasy! Title transfer/registration was just as painless (inexpensive) here in the Sunshine State.

'Knock knock, we are the beer police. Come out with you hands up!"  We have stayed there many times, no harassment from the Sheriff  and I am sad it is being revealed. Atlantic ocean (beautiful/gorgeous), St Johns River, Fort George Inlet, the place is a hidden gem. North side of the St Johns River. Actually a City of Jacksonville park. Be discrete and there will be no issues as with most things. But then again, we are a group of adults. Yes?

I suspect most of us are old enough to remember Red Skelton::

RED SKELTON'S RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE
    1. Two times a week we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.
    2. We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in California and mine is in Texas.
    3. I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.
    4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.
    5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.
    6. She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker. She said "There are too many gadgets, and no place to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.
    7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the car was. She told me, "In the lake."
    8. She got a mud pack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.
    9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling, "Am I too late for the garbage?" The driver said, "No, jump in!".
    10. Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.
    11. I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was 'Always'.
    12. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.
    13. The last fight was my fault though. My wife asked, "What's on the TV?"
    I said, "Dust!".

Yes he is missed. One decent human being.

    Howdy Friz,

I had to call and speak to a lady who helped me get it downloaded, it now works but it isn't as good as the old app.  The old app would let you make a route and show fuel prices along that route, the new one doesn't do that hopefully this will be updated as time goes on.

    Dave

Finally received the invitation email and I downloaded the new app. Had trouble registering. Called and was told to enter all the numbers on the card not just the ones in bolded large font. Never used the "route" function on the old card so I can't say I miss it. Otherwise it appears the same. Gee, ask for directions? Never. Thanks for the suggestion.

    TSD Fuel Family -

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new mobile app, TSD Open Roads.

We are anticipating a lot of excitement over this launch so to avoid overloading the system,  we are limiting the number of downloads per day.  We'll manage this by issuing user specific invitations to download the app.  To receive an invite to download this app please go to https://openroads.fueldiscountapp.com/ and register.  TSD will be sending the limited invites every hour in the order they are received.  If the daily download limit has been reached you will receive a message with that information asking you to please try again the next day............

Thank you for being a customer.

    Joy J Hanson-Hickerson

    Chief Financial Officer

Yeah, I received this email also on the 9th. Signed up the next day. It is now the 14th and I have heard nothing. Signed up again today. Anyone have success downloading this new app?

It does not. Note the sticker on any truck stop fuel pump. “Accurate at a flow of 30-60 gallons per minute”. Show me a funnel that can handle 30-60 gallons per minute.

Just read your post. Agree that a funnel will not handle 30-60 gal/min. Are you telling me the slowest rate on any variable pump handle cannot be held down to accommodate a funnel?

  13. We have been members of Boondockers Welcome since Oct 2018. We have hosted around 50 times since joining. Used it almost exclusively on a 2 month trip last summer as guests. The money we saved on campground fees kept us on the road for the 2nd month. You get a 3 month guest credit every time you host.  We have met the nicest and most interesting people.  All that is required of a host is that they provide you with a place to park overnight. Most also provide water and electric and depending on the host you can stay up to 5 nights. Some charge a nominal fee for hook up.  A 38' 5th wheel with 2 ACs uses less than 2 kw/day here in Florida. That is about $2.20 from my electric company. I see charging a fee as "gaming" the system. there are a few who do. We never charge anything. There are well over 2000 hosts in the United States! Without Boondockers Welcome we probably would quit RVing. It has spoiled us.

  14. Have had several accounts over the last few years. Always a nom de plume. Zuckerberg usually uncovers me after awhile and I  resurface as someone else. I have no "friends". Only use facebook to read the homeowner's association page. Also, I use the Tor browser (black web) when logging on to facebook.

Obviously, if you used a funnel and have a brain, you would have to proceed slowly and cautiously.. But the larger picture here is the level of viciousness and rancor in a personal attack, which is likely why so many potential members and contributors are gone in five minutes. Not everyone has skin that thick. I should know better than to post to this crowd. Mea culpa. Jay

I get the impression Pappy Y thinks his post was clever. Unfortunately Pappy Y, it reads as sarcastic. Him and others may not be versed in the rudimentary art of controlling variable pump flow rates.  I for one am and  so therefore I believe the funnel idea has merit.

In our experience when we had a diesel pickup truck, the truck stops almost always had a regular auto diesel sized nozzle at their truck lanes.  It came in handy when we were pulling our fifth wheel rather than trying to enter and exit at the auto pumps.  The auto diesel sized nozzles were usually on an outside pump.  If it's not obvious, go inside and ask if they have such a nozzle and where it's located.

Well Linda et al, looks like you are spot on. I called the Loves in Hawthorne FL where I have been fueling with the TSD card for the last several months. Sure enough they have a small nozzle pump at the far end of the truck lanes.  Wonders never cease!

Well that is a well kept secret. Never crossed my mind nor had anyone mentioned it to me. Assumed they were all the large nozzles catering just to professional drivers and their big rigs.
