  1. here is the response received from one of my elected officials....

Thank you for contacting me in opposition to the proposed changes to the rules for the 12 GHz spectrum band. Your thoughts are important to me as I work to effectively represent you in Congress.

As you may know, the 12 GHz band includes 500 MHz of what is considered mid-band spectrum. The 12 GHz spectrum is currently restricted to downstream use. The requested rule change would allow it to be used bi-directionally. Any Congressional hearings or legislation on this topic would be referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Although I do not serve on this committee, I will definitely remember your opposition to expanding the 12 GHz Spectrum should a bill on this issue receive a vote in the House of Representatives.  In the meantime, I will continue working to support improvements to broadband internet access.

As an individual using Star Link, you can write the FCC and complain.  Amateur radio operators and the ARRL are constantly monitoring the cell carriers and their power grab for frequencies previously designated for amateur use.

Starlink needs to help put together a basic letter which outlines the issues and refutes the claims by Dish for the use of these frequencies.  If the FCC starts getting thousands of letters from citizens, they will launch a deeper inquiry into the issue.  You will have to fight to win.

    Ken

They have a link where they have put together a letter that will be sent to your elected officials. They are sending it to their customers.

  3. Got starlink finally at our stick and bricks was on wait list with deposit since February 2021. Got the priority locked in my home cell they say guaranteed 50 down and 10 up.

We are seeing 133 down and 23 up...amazing and so easy to set up.

110 bucks a month  and can add portability for additional 25 .

Corporations on the other hand...... Got to think Musk has a bigger picture in mind regarding this purchase...tied into the Starlink internet service provider or something along those lines...dont know

  5. That's what I am saying...  starship is 100 percent reusable able to relaunch several times a day with airline type reliability and safety...fully reusable booster and ship...more powerful than a saturn v...

With out your ability to access current information regarding space flight and travel your perception of what isn't possible is skewed....and you can't see the Elon musk goals of becoming a multi planet species is where he is putting his multi billionaire money 💰

Mars is a 6 month trip 1 way with an ideal launch window opening every 18 months...spacex plan will send hundreds of ships to mars at each launch window... big picture...big plans...big money

but the launch did put more trash in orbit around the planet earth. we (as humans) need to find a far cheaper way and one that is 100% non disposable. if nothing more than no more nuts or bolts, paint chips. coming loose.

The jwst does not orbit earth...it orbits a point in space called L2...no trash was put in orbit around planet earth...

The holy grail of rocketry is rapid ,fully reusable vehicles comparable to airlines abilities to rapidly reuse an airplane...this is the goal of spacex and the starship program that is being developed using the raptor methalox engine..

You can do your own research on these items by using Google if your interested.

  7. A little dated but you can get an idea from this post from space.com

The Obama Administration just announced its budget proposal for the 2012 fiscal year: The total budget is $3.73 trillion, and $18.7 billion of that will go to funding NASA. But how much are you, personally, contributing to space exploration?

We did the math, and it turns out that a little more than half a penny of every federal tax dollar ends up at NASA. That means that a family with the median household income ($49,777 according to the U.S. Census Bureau), which pays $6,629 of federal taxes, pays the space agency ...  $33.

    And some more recent information....

President Joe Biden's federal budget proposal for 2022 gives NASA more science funding than ever before while continuing to pave the way for the next human moon landing in 2024.

The White House's $6 trillion federal spending bill, released Friday (May 28), gives NASA a total of $24.8 billion, including "the largest budget request for NASA science, ever," NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said Friday in a news conference. "The Biden administration is proving that science is back," he added. Of the agency's total proposed budget, about $7.9 billion will go to the agency's science division, a 9% increase from 2021.

Not sure of the exact math but perhaps another $3.00 so maybe were at $36.00 per household? You can do your own research if you really want to know, I look at it as the price of admission to play in the good ole USA.....

my way over priced led bulbs keep failing. ( in the short time i have lived in this house i have replaced at least 10 of them) the last of my normal light bulbs are still burning great. decades after buying them.

Those overpirced LED bulbs are designed to last 50,000 hours...since you are having such a high failure rate perhaps you got a bad batch...or perhaps something else is going on with your electrical system in the house...are all 10 replacements you speak of failing in the same fixture???? ...or perhaps it's just bad technology... but maybe just the luck you make as I havent had a single LED bulb fail out of the 20 or so that are installed in my S&B the past decade

i love space, to bad we have this gravity well to get out of. but what good is looking at stars. that we will never get to?

sure they say "due to the dimming" of a stars light there might be a planet there. but even this way over priced thing. still will not be able to see anything of note.

how many pot holes could have been "fixed" not patched, for this money? and how much of the cash just found its way into the pockets of the supper rich?

and how much more orbital junk did the launch put up there?

Based in space and optimized for a wide swath of the infrared spectrum, Webb will provide data scientists can use to create truly multi-dimensional models of exoplanets. To understand how their atmospheres are structured and what makes up their composition. We’re going to be able to look at signatures from things like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, all sorts of chemical signatures. We can start to move away from that dim one-dimensional optical view of the exoplanet and start to understand what it looks like in two in three dimensions.

We look up to the stars to try and understand how they are made, why they are there, where did they come from, where are they going, and to ask the question are we alone in the universe.

JWST will orbit a point in space at L2,  which is about 1 million miles from earth. No more orbital junk was "put up there"

Pothole repair comes out of a different budget

  9. Love my f450 drw 6.7 liter. The 4.30 rear end gets 14 to 15 unladen and 8 to 9 towing 20k.

Wide track front end makes it very manageable to park in standard parking spotes but the full length bed makes it stick out further so you learn to back into spots and park in the far reaches of the lots.

Yes it's big and the first couple times driving is intimidating but after a week or 2 don't even think about it anymore.  It's my daily driver with 145k and going strong no turbo or fuel pump issues as it's maintained regularly per manufacturer specifications.  Did have to change the egr cooler at 138k thanks you epa for that.

    Rides like a truck too.

  10. For our touring harley davidson I use Bug Slide applied to a clean surface. Spray on wipe off with clean microfiber. At the end of day a wipe with a dirty microfiber cloth to clean and another application of bug slide and good to go works on plastic or metal. Depending on swarming luv bugs might have to lay a wet towel to loosen first. We have custom chameleon paint job and 45 thousand miles with the product.

  11. Last week was our winter in South Florida, low of 35 high of 60..lasted 3 days...back to our regularly schedule program of mid 70s in the day mid 50s at night. Think winters over now...

Actually people say there are no seasons down here in south Florida... thats not True as we have 4 season as well... We have Early summer,  Summer, Late summer and next Summer

Kirk, I thought Escapees has a discount fuel program? I heard somewhere (probably wrong...) that TSD was looking into adding the gas islands at the truck stops to their plan. Don't know if that is correct or not and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on it.

From the tsd open roads web site.....Have a gasoline vehicle? You're in luck! Coming in early 2022 we will be offering a gasoline discount card as well as the diesel card.

  13. That was April of 2021 . Was having a difficult time getting the image resized to fit in the post and cut off the date when I was messing with it.

Objective was to show how the app data is presented so you can determine the discount 'fees and final costs per gallon

And discount price as of right now at that ta location based on the open roads app is 3.58
