  1. Count me & wife in on your seminar. Bob & lisa Trim
  2. That's a serious bit of bit there. Thanks. Getting one.
  3. By the looks of that drill setup, the frame must be hard steel.
  4. Ya, road trip. It will be jamming back under the CDL radar. Don't have one. Not needed in Utah with reclassification of the truck as a motorhome...which is falling off a log simple. The commercial hitch will be removed by the dealer and the trailer air lines. We have Not For Hire graphics coming. Insurance papers in hand as well as the Utah reclassification paperwork. The truck will have temp tags. Praying for no red lights at weigh stations. It should be ....interesting. Bob
  5. Located in Salt Lake City. Lots of fab shops here.
  6. Update. Based on the folding stairs solution, we're moving ahead on the green 630 in Georgia. The oil test and full inspection by a third party are being done next week. Then we fly down to kick the tires. We really appreciate all the help and support. Bob & Lisa
  7. Without a custom bed on your volvo, how is everyone mounting your 5th wheel hitch to the truck? Photos would be helpful . Thanks Bob & lisa
  8. Ahhh. Makes sense now. Thanks for taking the time to get these photos. Wife feels this is the solution for her. Bob
  9. What do these fold up stairs look like when stowed.
  10. So, kinda bad news. In looking for the volvo, my wife is having serious problems getting in the truck. She had knee surgery (meniscus) that has left her with pain when climbing up stairs. Doing a ladder, like the step design of HDT , is really hard. And the step spacing makes it more difficult and painful. Our international 4700 is more akin to stairs, which is doable for her. So, it looks like we stay with our MDT. (Sad face). Our issues with the 4700 are cabin noise and lack of power and rough ride. I can mitigate lots of the noise by adding sound insulation (doors, under hood, under cabin), exhaust resonator & better muffler, quiter tires, and re-upholstering the headliner with fabric & padding, etc. Power... water injection is about all we can do with aluminum pistons. So there we are. Aging is a bitch. Bob & lisa
  11. We're walking away from this truck. The yellow pig-pen. I think it would be a lot of work to get the smoke smell out. Like pulling the interior and replacing the insulation, deep cleaning, etc. I don't think the price will come down enough to offset the personal downtime and work. From several others, the leaking is probably coming from a bad roof seal where the roof meets the cab sides. Re-sealing seems to be the fix. Thanks for the input folks. Means a lot. Bob & Lisa
  12. Thanks folks. Appreciate the input. WingNuts... ironic isn't it. The only thing my wife has issues with on the green truck is the lack of side fairings. Guess chrome is a guy thing. I might still get that truck. They have been very helpful over the phone and understand the distance thing. Bob & Lisa
  13. In our search for a HDT, one rolled into the Volvo dealership (consignment) just off the road. 2015 630, bit over 500k miles. The small trucking firm has bought all their trucks from this dealer over the years, so they know him well. He runs 5 or so rigs. The nice thing about this truck is that it has not been detailed.. It is what it was when it drove in. Outside looks like a truck off the road during winter. Under the dirt is a really good looking exterior. Minimal rust on the rear frame and drive gear. The interior is another story. It's really, really dirty. And the dude was a smoker. So there's that. Question(s): - smoke smell, can it be neutralized? - The attached images show water marks on the interior fabric. Link to a .zip file of the images . Some water marks around the rear ceiling speakers, overhead windshield storage. Thoughts on what caused those and can the source be sealed? The salesman said it is common for these trucks that run on the east coast (it has a NY road tag on the front and Utah plates), and the top seam can be resealed. True? False? - The shots of the dash and the passengers seat give you and idea of the interior dirt situation. Here's a link to the truck from the dealer: We are going to aggressively work on the price. https://www.mountainwesttruckcenter.net/inventory/?/listings/trucks/for-sale/191435343/2016-volvo-vnl64t630?dlr=1&pcid=420970&src=0&sfc=0&ssc=0&sps=0&snai=0&title=Used+Trucks The good news is, with the lack of detailing, all leaks in the engine compartment are visible. And there's little. A bit of oil buildup at the rear passengers side of the valve cover. It's really nice. Obviously a cared for motor. Nothing patched or jerry-rigged. I gave it a pretty good visual and they will let me spend as much time as I like digging into the rig, going down the checklist. Pulled the cap on the crankcase and sniff... smells like good engine. Not sour or damp. The dealer has done zero on this truck. I am planning on getting an oil analysis, extensive DOT inspection, the computer dump (there is a warning on startup about an exterior light). Hopefully I can find someone local (Salt lake City) who owns ones a Volvo to give it a spin and offer input. And putting in the deal (if we get close on price) that it be detailed. Thoughts on the water damage and all other advice welcome. Bob & Lisa
  14. We booked a site. Hopefully we will have our new truck. Bob & Lisa
  15. We've found a second truck that might fit our needs. It's in Kansas, City (We're in Salt Lake City...so not a quick jaunt over). Is there any of you kind folks that could take a look at this truck for us and give an assessment? Or know of a service that can? This is the truck: https://www.nexttruckonline.com/search?category_level1=Sleeper+Trucks&make=VOLVO&model=VNL64T-630&state=Missouri&year=2015&listing_id=7819104&s-type=truck The truck appears to be well maintained. It does have a DOT inspection that's about a month old. All other specs meet our checklist, I think. Like to get it looked at by early next week if at all possible. Appreciate the help if possible. Bob & Lisa
  16. We're moving up from a MDT to a 630. Found a prospect in Carrollton, Georgia (Jorden Truck Sales). It's a fair bit from Salt Lake City, so wondering if there's someone that could give the truck a once over? Would be glad to compensate your time. Guess we should find someone to do a DOT inspection as well. Dealer can't do it (Georgia laws, which I agree with). Needs to be looked at this week or early next week at the latest, if possible. Here's a link to the truck https://www.nexttruckonline.com/search?category_level1=Sleeper+Trucks&make=VOLVO&model=VNL64T-630&state=Georgia&year=2015&listing_id=7892007&s-type=truck# Appreciate the help. We'd like to have it ready for the west coast meetup ... and meet everyone. Thanks in advance. Bob and Lisa
