  1. They are okay, but in a nasty accident today in Montana.  Their trailer and car are destroyed and truck is damaged...

    Copied from Dee's FaceBook:

First of all, Jim, myself and the dogs are fine. The ambulance checked us both out. My blood pressure was really high and Jim’s was a little high. We are now homeless and carless. Jim was only doing 35ish on an 80 MPH road. The snow was very wet, slick and slushy. I think there was ice on the road as well. The trailer shimmied. Jim corrected three or four times trying very hard to get us straight but we ended up in the median facing the other way. The truck tipped over but came to rest upright. The trailer and the car didn’t fare so well. Everything we own is inside the trailer, including medicine, clothes, my business stuff, Jim’s business stuff, our computers and more. This happened at mile marker 467.5 on I-90 west about 20 miles from Billings, Montana (our destination). But Jim’s crew are angels. They came and got all the work stuff out of the car, took us to a motel and later to get a rental car. They are wonderful! I’ll keep everyone updated. I’m so glad God and Jim kept us from getting injured. This could have been so much worse.

  2. Picked up Thunderstruck from her annual maintenance and inspection visit.

New oil, filters, and a thorough inspection from a far smarter-than-me group of experts.

She got a clean bill of health for this seasons shenanigans...

  3. I am with Auto Owners insurance.  For my home, cars, RV and the Big Truck.

When our truck was hit by lightning (2022), they not only paid for the HDT tow to a Volvo dealer 30 miles away, but also paid for the repairs to the truck totaling almost $70,000.  They not only renewed me (twice), with only a small market increase in the premium since then, but did not require me to change the $100 deductible.

As a side note, in the fall of 2022 my wife hit a deer with her car adding another $7500 claim to our policy that year and they still didn't cancel us.

  4. When I was abducted by aliens, they gave me the solution to cold fusion and artificial gravity.

Then we started drinking tequila and I kinda forgot what they said...

Scroll down on our website and note the "Jam session protocol", it's a real high to sit in with these guys. Yes, the Old Goat enjoys that opportunity now and then. Checkout the "Milestones" link further down on the site. It's the 25th anniversary edition and shows the caliber of people involved in the Society .

It's one of the best and successful 501 (c) organization around and on record and one does not mind to contribute time and effort to keep it going.

1980s GM diesels were converted gas engines...

The 5.7L GM diesel was based off the Oldsmobile gas engine block - Fact.  They even marketed a smaller 4.3 (260") V8 and 4.3 (262") V6 version also off the gas engines.

  7. I did my truck at 48".  This was a huge mistake.  My Momentum Toy Hauler is more like 52-54".  I wound up needed to extend and modify the pin box on the trailer to get it to ride level.

I'd highly suggest measuring your pin height at level to see what you really need.

I have long considered adding a propane home generator to our house for use in power outages.  Our HVAC is hybrid heat pump/ propane and with the recent arctic storm here in Tennessee it rekindled the issue. Thank heavens we weathered the storm without any lengthy outages unlike last year when we had several days of rolling blackouts. For those of you that have knowledge or experience with such systems would you recommend?  Size?  Justify cost? Manufacturer?  Our home sq ft is approximately 3600 sq ft.  BTW our propane tank is a buried 1000 gal. (Yes we went big, lol.)

Our home is slightly smaller (about 3000') and I would not even consider an LP generator without adding a 2nd 1000G propane tank in our situation.  My research has pushed me toward a 20KW size unit and they burn approximately 2.5 GPH of propane.  That's 60 gallons per day.  If it kicks in, mid winter when your 1000 (800 usable) tank is half full, that's less than a weeks run time, factoring in LP usage for heat, hot water, cooking, etc.

If I had GeorgiaHybrid's money (first off, I'd just burn mine) but I would definitely go with a big diesel tank and Genny per his suggestion....

Forget spending mountains of money, and buy a pto genny for the back of your Kubota.  Have an electrician fix you up with a drop cord and transfer switch.  Way cheaper than the other suggestions, though not as fancy.

I've thought about this.  But the idea or running my Kubota at PTO speed for days or longer is not something I want to do.

I may consider it as supplemental power if needed, but not as a whole house gen-set.

  10. As I put on Facebook, this is a video of my old Carbon 364 on my ET senior.  It's also a 16k gross trailer, but it was between 3000 and 3500 pin weight.  As I mentioned on Facebook I would suggest confirming that 2200 pound pin weight.  That's only 12% of a 16k trailer and even for a poorly designed RV, that is really light.

If you're low on DEF, just pee in the tank.

If you can pee enough gallonage to make a difference, go for it bud...

Please remember to bring your table service ( plates, silverware etc. ) as we are on a  very tight budget. If someone wants to step up and supply the styrofoam plates, plastic silverware and cups that would be great. If you are so inclined, please let me know right away. I'm thinking 2 potlucks ( Tuesday/ Thursday) ,Fix My Truck Wednesday , and Truck Rodeo Friday, and a couple of other seminars thrown in , and maybe a presentation by Dave and Vicki Henninger on their Alaskan adventure. Remember this is all fluid at this point and we will solidify as soon as possible.  Your Ideas are welcome,Let me hear them !! 419-466-5984

We're not going to be there until the 20th, but can certainly swing through Sam's and get plates, cups and plasticware, if that would help...

  13. Thanks Rick, I do agree that our truck does ride fantastic.

I would stack our singled Volvo VNL 730, with air ride front suspension and Legacy Pinnacle seats against my wife's Mercedes in ride quality any day.  (Rick - you've ridden in both so you can testify)

I can't speak to other brands, but in the Ford truck line, all cabs are the same, from F-150 through F-550.  Seats are too.  I would think GM and Ram would be similar.

This is exactly correct, Rick.  The F150-F550 all use the same cab.  The same goes for GM and Ram.

The F650 & 750 use the "old" style steel body "Super Duty" cabs.  Good luck finding a 650 or 750 that is not a vinyl seat rubber floor type truck unless you have a complete custom conversion done.
