Was it raining at the time?  What year is the smart.  On our 2003 smart car.  Yes it was one of the original 1342 smarts brought into the US by C&K out in CA and converted to US spec.  I had traded my sister the smart for her RAV4 for a week so we could haul my Father and my MIL to our sons wedding.  Anyway she was driving the smart and it was raining and she thought the wiper controls would make the wipers go faster using the intermittent or what she thought was the intermittent wiper control and rolled it counter clockwise 4 times.  Well MB had built in a security feature that if you rolled the wiper control 4 times counter clockwise it would not allow the car to start.  It was raining cats and dogs and she was stopped at a major intersection when she did it and the car shut off.  She was a block from her office and had to call for help.  3 folks from her office came to her aid and pushed it around the conner and into a parking lot.  She called me in a panic and back in 2006 when this happened there were not very many smarts around.  I put the problem on the smart forum and within 30 min someone gave me the answer. We were the 4th folks to put a smart on the back of our Volvo 770.  Anyway try rolling the wiper controls end 4 turns clockwise and see if that works.

No Sir, there was no rain but I will ask my DW if she messed with the wipers on the way home. Thank you .

It sounds like bad fuel. 15 miles down the road would use what fuel is in lines. That less than half a gallon.

Glenn I am inclined to agree with you. I will talk to my mechanic on monday. Thanks.

Agree with Lloyd. The days of putting a hand on the valve cover and diagnosing problems is long gone. Your guy needs to be able to basic diagnostics. Having Mercedes software available wouldn't hurt, either. Does the fuel door smell like gas, or diesel? Basic troubleshooting still has a place, but electronics definitely help.

Thanks Darryl, will tell him what you had to input on monday.

If your "mechanic" is relying on you for tech tips find another mechanic. If he is not competent enough to check fuel supply, or do other simple diagnostic steps tow your car away from him.

Thank you Sir, I appreciate your input.

  5. Hope someone here can give me some Insite on what might be going on with our Smart Brabus.  the DW, took the car into town for a medical appointment. When heading home she stopped for gas and filled up. 15 miles down the road the car cuts off and she parked it in a church parking lot. the car would crank but not start so I had it towed to my mechanics shop. he checked it out and told us we needed cam crank sensor. so I purchased one and gave it to him. After about a week he calls and tells us he installed the sensor but it still wont run. The motor cranks and he has spark but it wont start. we asked if he got any codes and he said no.

Could this possibly be a bad fuel pump?? its only got 40000 miles on it. Is there anything else I can tell him to check to get the car fixed?  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Thanks in advance

I was with them for a year, the upgraded perks were on the renewal.  Maybe you can get it through a dealer on the first go around, I don't know.  Not sure on other vehicles, as I wasn't looking.  We have a roadside assistance policy under out insurance for the Jeep.

Coachnet is supposed to move the truck and the trailer, btw.

    From their website:

    All-Inclusive Coverage
We’ve got you and your family covered. Your
    Premier membership will include coverage
on your registered RV and all other personal
    vehicles (including motorcycles) - owned,
rented, borrowed or leased. Even if you are
a passenger in another vehicle - we’ve got
you covered. Best of all, our all-inclusive
service means you don’t need any other
    roadside assistance program!

Thank you Sir for the info. I'm calling them today.

I also had CoachNet premium towable, and have a singled truck.  I called them and asked the same questions and got the same answers, so I went with them.  Have not had to use them as of yet, but have high hopes.  One thing for renewal time - I was able to select Ultimate Protect Towable, which looks like it is a dealer only product.   I now have this coverage. Key additional benefits:

    Unlimited Towing

No mileage or dollar amount limits and no out of pocket expense when towing your disabled vehicle to the nearest qualified repair facility.

    Unlimited Tire Assistance

Delivery of Fuel and Emergency Fluids

    Unlimited Battery Boosts

    Unlimited Lockouts

    Unlimited Mobile Mechanic

    Unlimited Appointment Assistance

    Winching/Free A Stuck Vehicle

    Key and Key Remote Replacement

    Windshield Repair

    Courtesy Mobile Mechanic

    Emergency Trip Interruption

There is other stuff as well, but for the minor price difference, I felt it was worth it.  My truck is over 20 years old and no longer eligible for comprehensive coverage in Florida, so the windshield coverage is enough in and of itself.

Aknavy, did you have to be with them for the first year before they offered you the upgraded perks or could you sign up from the beginning? Also does this policy cover an extra vehicle or motorcycle or multiple other vehicles. I'm so done with good Sam and AAA.

    Thanks

While your slides are powered by 12V-dc electricity from the batteries or converter, the air conditioner and microwave are not.  The radio may 120V but probably is 12V-dc. Your converter gets power from 120V-ac power and then converts that to 12V-dc. If your bedroom air conditioner was working you did have at least some 120V-ac power.

Thank you Kirk. From what I can tell, I may have a bad main circuit breaker in my panel.

Yes you can change your converter.  Some travel trailers have the converter as an integral part of the RV power panel.  If this is the case, you will have to disconnect the integral wiring and ad a plug somewhere near where you install your new stand alone converter.  You will also obviously have to move the 12 volt wire leads from the old converter to the new converter.  If your OEM converter is already a stand alone converter, then it is a simple swap.  Unplug the old converter from where it is plugged in, disconnect the 12 volt wire leads, install the new converter, connect it to the 12 volt leads and plug it in.  There may also be a chassis ground wire connected to the converter box and the RV frame.  Simple disconnect this from the old converter and reconnect it to the new one as well.

As to what size converter you need, I would stick with one the same or close in amperage rating to your OEM converter.  This is what the existing wiring will support.  If you go too much bigger than the OEM converter, you may have to replace both the AC wiring (15 amp to possible 20 amp) and the DC wiring (proper gauge to support the amperage output) .

Edit to add:  You can use any manufacturers converter.  Some are of better quality than others though.  I would stick with a name brand.

Thank you Chad, i appreciate your input.

  10. I had a group24 12volt on my 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH that I replaced with 2 6-volt golf cart batteries which I have wired in series. Did this several months ago before we took off for St.Louis down the Mississippi River to New Orleans over to Savannah and finally back home. Gone for 3 weeks total. A lot of nice we would dry camp at truck stops or cracker barrel's and then into a campground with hook ups to recharge and refresh. Now that we've been home several weeks I noticed that the slide and the awning were getting really slow to extend and retract. I keep it hooked to shore power here at the house. I noticed that the living room A/C stopped running and the microwave and radio would not come on. Flipped all the breakers a couple of times but nothing. The other A/C in the bedroom is working fine. I trouble shot from the main power supply in the house into the shore power box, down and out to the connection plug in with the cord. Showed that everything was good. So I ched voltage on my 2 batteries and they were like 11.8 so I separated the series connection and charged up both of them individually till fully charged. Hooked everything back up and everything came back on and I left everything,A/C, frig, all the stuff you usually have running when in a campground. I checked the voltage in the batteries and they were starting to drop voltage. Same thing the next 2 days. So I'm charging the batteries back up.

All that to say this....I believe my converter is malfunctioning. I believe its behind my electrical box on the TT. Can I go back with a better more powerful converter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I run my power pedestal through my progress Industries box. Can I replace my converter with a converter by progressive industries. If so, how would I know which one to get? Thanks in advance for any info on this.

I don't know how long they will last but I check them for cracks and check the manufacturer date. I will tell you that I treat all my tires with Aerospace 101 spray. Plus I cover my tires when not on the rode.

Sorry...... it's supposed to Aerospace 303. I fat fingered it.

There maybe lettering on the side of the switch.

Just pop it out and take a look. Then search online. Or if needed immediately, check with a local rv dealer.

Or even a place that sells hydraulic equipment. They use switches on plows and such stuff.

Good deal never thought about that. Plenty of tractor equipment places out here.  Thank you.

Every tire failure we've experienced has been a Goodyear.  Two different trailers over the past 13 years.  On both trailers, we upgraded to 17.5" wheels.  I now have Sailun tires on the 5er, and so far am happy with them.  I ran them on my work truck, and had them on our Volvo RV truck as well.

I do the same as you. Excellent choice. Back and forth coast to coast twice and Sturgis/Yellowstone and back. Thats one TUFF tire.

RE: buying at Camping World; be VERY careful. MANY Camping World locations are NOT known for customer service, particularly AFTER the sale. I expect you're familiar with (or at least heard of) www.rvtrader.com ?

www.racingjunk.com occasionally has suitable trailers listed.

Stay away from Camping World. In our experience we found the sales people were just as deceiving as car salesman. To much to go into here but to say the least our experience turned into a nightmare. So we haven't darkened their doorway since.

For me, this sort of shenanigans is the number one reason to cancel a brand. When the voltages claimed are say, 18, 19, 20 volts, then they're using the same cells, but claiming different nominal voltages. Just change the method of attachment and instantly make the entire previous line obsolete. Porter Cable did that to me, so I'm done with them. Now, I research a company's battery history first before spending hard earned dollars. Okay, rant over. I apologize for hijacking your thread and not answering your question, but this is a sore spot for me. Jay

I'm right there with you Jay.

I purchased a Goldline from National RV covers for my 13'6" tall and 42'6" long 5th wheel and I was impressed with the quality.  They are little more expensive than the other brands (even with their sale prices) but the quality is worth it since it will last longer.  I've owned three previous covers for travel trailers before my fifth wheel and this cover is the best quality.

Thank you. I will check them out as well.

When my life partner and I were told she was terminal, psychologically there was no way I would ever be able to drive my 379X again without Cari in the seat to me. So with her permission I sold it. It is at a good home and will likely travel similar paths in the future.

Friday I rented a car one way to Boise Idaho from my home town Hillsboro Oregon, and bought this 2021 567. My BIL had never ridden in one and after Cari had been telling he and my sister about travel by truck, he really wanted to ride along to see what even a short interstate trip might be like. I think he is hooked and my be a future HDT owner. Fingers crossed anyway.

I have a insulated Summit box ordered and hope to take delivery February sometime.

Congrats, very nice. Guve us some specs about it when you can.
