  1. Thank you for again reminding everyone of the purpose of "Decoration Day".

Your poem is meaningful and reminds us deceased veterans are not the only casualties of armed conflict.

I met a Korea conflict/war veteran at the barber shop this week, I asked if I could shake his hand. He smiled greatly and extended his hand. I don't know which of us benefited most from that short encounter, him, me or his caregiver/daughter.

  2. A side note on the  subject of blocked numbers. Today I dialed 9-1-1 to report a disabled auto in the driving lane of a 2-lane highway, using my Android phone.  There was no answer 3X; so I pulled back on the highway and continued to hospital to see DW.

When I got to hospital I noticed 3 blocked calls from an unknown number. It was a 9-1-1 dispatcher calling me back. I  had call blocking enabled for potential spam calls. I had to disable call blocking so  9-1-1 return calls were allowed.

  3. Mansfield water closet parts are available on Amazon, including bolts. I keep a spare set of bolts and a spare sealing washer on hand.  However, I reuse the bolts by warming the sealing compound in warm water first so it will conform to the irregular holes in the closet.

Most likely the entire unit didn't need replacing, only the red sealing washer. It fits into a groove, sometimes it gets pushed down out of the groove and will not seal. It's easy to replace in the groove if you take your time. This restores the water seal.

    This is really good information.
As for Solensia, I explained my travel situation to the vet.  If a "foreign" veterinary clinic doesn't have the medication, I was provided with one dose, sealed and refrigerated.  I will have a vet somewhere on the road to do the injection.

When responsible adults reach an understanding for the common good, it is sometimes okay to bend the rules.
And my veterinary clinic is an AAHA accredited clinic.

FWIW, in most US states it is legal for a lay person to give another person a shot of medication. I give my DW B12 shots every 2 weeks, our Dr and Express-scripts is fine with our arrangement. Injection syringes are sold over the counter at drug stores, but you  do have to sign their accountability book and show your driers license, which they record in the book.

Same should apply to pets IMO.

As to a deceased pet, I'd do the same as for me when I die, direct cremation.

  5. Most scam calls have a delay between the time you say hello and they come online. When that happens, I let them begin talking then interrupt; saying "you have reached the county morgue". Some of the responses are hilarious.

If you use a good quality grease the bearings don't have to be pack every year and if you can I would learn to do them myself. If you use a extra tacky grease it stays in the bearing were it belongs. If you have someone else do it ask what kind of grease they use and if need be supply your own.

However trailer bearing should be inspected annually for defects. Well, unless you're the kind that waits for a bearing failure first. And todays wheel bearing grease will settle out over time. I've seen it with one of my farm wagons that sat in a shed for 3 years. I removed the dust caps to see if they had any grease showing and oil ran out of the dust cap. Regardless of advertising all #2 non synthetic grease must meet the same specs.

  7. I was 81 Christmas day.

The huge age gap between our generation and those <50 means differences in how we travel and camp. The instant communication on a cell phone of the facebook escapees better fits their needs and lifestyle.

I predict the escapees discussion forums will mirror the decline of the FMCA discussion forums, although some years later, as they too have a facebook site.

So you are thinking of another move? We just moved a few hundred feet to a bigger apartment and moving seems to get to be more work with every passing year. We thought we were buying our last home when we left fulltime life but that has not turned out to be the case. And we are to a point of downsizing even with the vehicles. I believe that you are about 10 years younger than I so here's hoping that health treats both of you better than it has Pam.

I'm sorry to hear Pam's getting worse, becoming a caregiver for your life mate is difficult, for me anyway. That IMO is what we signed up for when we married.  My wife has gotten so much worse in the last 2 years we are not able to use our MH when/if we ever get it back from the body shop. It's almost too late for us to move to a smaller house. It's all I can manage to keep up the outside work and the inside work.  I suspect our move will be from our house directly to assisted-living or a nursing home.

Lins want's to downside, sell our 40' MH and buy a smaller RV. One of these electric units appears to meet her needs; if they become available this year. At this point, whatever she wants I plan to make happen while she remains mobile.

That's backwards. Induction "burners" work by exciting the magnetic/ferrous atoms in the pan or container which then heats the food.

    Exactly!

  10. When you look at the trailer it has what was called a "suicide door", hinged on the aft side.. When it came open the wind over-powered her and pulled her out.

I suspect, since they were en-route to somewhere to watch the eclipse, there were more people than seats in the tow vehicle.

This is a very tragic accident the driver will never forget. In Indiana the driver is responsible for the safety of all passengers.

For instance if the vehicle is pulled over and a passenger is not wearing a seat-belt, the driver is ticketed. Likewise with people riding in a truck-bed, driver is ticketed.

As to Airstream design; when you look at their website, some are hinged on the forward side, some aft. It depends on floorplan and awning arm positioning. The Airstream involved has an awning arm beside the door so close if the door had hinges on the forward side the door would hit the awning arm.

I do suspect a design change in the Airstream future.

  11. The Dexter Axle recommendation to repack and inspect wheel bearing annually or at 12,000 miles is  a preventative measure to make sure slightly damaged bearings are caught before having an expensive failure that might also ruin the spindle, cause an accident or complete loss of a wheel.

I lost a wheel from a flat-bed trailer while hauling a tractor due to neglecting that recommendation.

the job is not difficult, just messy-bit that's why vinyl mechanics gloves are sold.

  12. I only use a wye when staying long-term. Every wye I have said drinking water safe on the tag, even the brass 5 hookup wye I bought for use at a rodeo grounds CG with once central spigot for every 20 spaces. Then other campers would use their wye on the end of their hose to feed another camper. If everyone did that, 25 campers had access to water from that one hydrant to re-fill their fresh water tank.

The CG had a honey-dipper to empty waste tanks.

The kitchen is closed up tightly but I was going to vent it out the back of the trailer using an 8” hole to the outside. I can always buy a vent cover and cut the door as well to accommodate a vent large enough to vent out the heat. When I’m parked I usually leave the kitchen door open.

Please read the 3-way fridge installation manual before proceeding:  https://norcold.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/IM_N7V_N7X_N7LX_N8V_N8X_N8LX_639300F_20200401.pdf

When operating in the propane mode, chimney temperatures will easily reach 350°F, proper venting is essential.

An absorption refrigerator will not work without proper ventilation and it can be dangerous to try. If you were to get one of the new, 12V compressor refrigerators it would work without the extra ventilation. If you do decide to cut a new vent, be very sure what is in the wall where you plan to cut as you might affect the structural integrity of the RV.

Yep, Lippert says they depend on the TT manufacturers chassis to augment their frames.
